The EarthBound Series

This forum is for anyone who has played EarthBound Zero, EarthBound, or Mother 3. Personally, I thought all three were great. EarthBound was probably the weirdest and funniest RPG I ever played. Plus, it had that innovative HP/PP odometer. Mother 3 is also great, but considering I can't read Japanese, I had to use translations from random sites. EarthBound Zero was really fun, but the difficulty seemed pretty high. Then again, it started the great trilogy, so it deserves an honorable mention.

(Also, to fans who wanted Mother 3 translated, Starmen.net and Mother3.org are working on translations, seperately though.)

Who else here is a fan of EarthBound?

YOU CANNOT COMPREHEND THE TRUE FORM OF GIYGAS' ATTACK! NESS NESS NESS NESS NESS.

I'm pumped for Mother 3 and have been ever since Starmen announced that they were translating it. They know what they're doing more than anyone else, so I can't wait to see what happens.

And even though it could be years off, I can always dream of a Mother 4.

(uploaded my new EB avatar, the Black Mage/scythe thing got old.)

I remember I bought EarthBound 1-2 months after its release. I liked it way more than the other RPGs I played, because this was sort of based on our time. It also had some of the coolest weapons ever (Not to mention some of the greatest characters.). The Magicant Bat, the Holy Frying Pan, the Gaia Beam, the Sword of Kings, they were all there. I also hope to see EarthBound on the Virtual Console soon. I'm also trying to find out the translation progress. And maybe one day, there will be a Mother 4, but Japan almost didn't get a Mother 3, so don't hold your breath in case...

ALSO: If you wanted to see a new EarthBound character in Super Smash Brothers Brawl, who would it be? If you have an answer, please leave it at the end of your post. Another thing, is that there's a possibility that Lucas might be in SSBB. (Although I want Paula in on SSBB, because PK Freeze would own.)

I was speaking idiomatically.

FLINT FLINT FLINT FLINT FLINT.

Seriously, nothing would be better than a cowboy battering people with a two-by-four.

Nothing.

Also, I remembered something from one of my folders...

I thought it would be Giygas after the Happy Happyists were through with him. It's not the best blue, but t was as close as I could get. Giygas was one hell of a screwed up end boss though, and when I was young, it gave me one or two good nightmares... I haven't really played EB0, considering I only got to the zoo.

Flint would kill with a 2 x 4, but what would his Brawl Power be? Ness would have PK Rockin (or Kiai), and Lucas would have PK LOVE, both have the same base, except Rockin is stronger.

Are they done with the Mother 3 translation yet? I was told it'd be done by christmas, but apparently not. I can't wait to play that with a proper translation. I'm surprised at the amount of people playing it while not understanding a single line of text.

This thread makes me feel.... good.

It could be a while, Elixer. Also, the end of your post might not be taken correctly for those who've never played EarthBound, but who cares? It's Giygas!

Anyways, the translations have no release date, I haven't heard much on Starmen.Net's translation, but they've got progress posted on Mother3.org... Anyways, I've been playing it, up until Chapter 5 or 6, I can't remember. I'm stopping there until a translation's released, so in the meantime, I'm using PK Hack on EarthBound. Someone should create an EarthBound hack based on GFF...

Pff. None of the other Nintendo characters have been through what the EB ones have. I wonder how anyone else would fare against someone like Giygas. Ness deserves the most respect for getting out of such a terrifying and utterly hopeless battle with very few mental scars.

Anyways, Poo is the most suited for combat of any kind, especially with that rare sword of his. He should definitely be in there, PSI Starstorm would make players' eyes simply melt out of their faces.

Also, I always thought his name was pronounced "poh". I guess I always had an aversion to obvious toilet jokes.

You'd have to imagine what state of mind an ordinary person would be in after an ordeal like that. I'd probably never speak of it again after something like that... (Ness had to deal with evil itself, Peach had to deal witrh getting rescued from a giant turtle with a spiked shell.) I think there was a hint that there was going to be another EB character in SSBB. Some random person also said Lucas should replace Ness in SSBB. No. Just, no.

Ness: The leader of the four. Most powerful. Has to be in.

Paula: Has nearly all PSI powers. Also has a frying pan.

Jeff: He's an inventor, and he's got a Gaia beam, and a bazooka. Do the math.

Poo: The only one with a sword and PK Starstorm. (You're right about Starstorm, PsychoJosh. They'd really have to emphasize on the seizure warning.)

Seriously, though, these characters are cool. Imagine Ness and Paula v. Mario and Peach. Bye, Team Mario.

Edit: Here's the picture I took after fooling around with PK Hack... Not really much changed except colors and character window graphics.

Ness for President, and King for Vice President of 199X.

happy huh? the games been out for almost a year (and with the huge cult fanbase, a translation should have been done a month after launch, at least (also, is there a translation for Earthbound Zero/mother1 which isnt craptacualr?)

I think there's only the Demiforce translation, but I believe Tomato of Starmen.Net made his own translation in a .IPS patch. I think it was a graphics hack to put the original graphics back, and some translated text, although I don't really remember, sorry.

Well, keep in mind that Starmen.net only just recently started the translation, since they wanted to wait for around a year after the game came out before starting their translation because they didn't want to ruin Nintendo's chances of having good sales by producing their own version.

Mother3.org, however, has been working on it for quite some time, and yes, they have been slow about it, but eh. It's a hobby.

Waaaay too cool. I like so many aspects but if I had to name just one, I think it'd be the PSI attacks. First of all, they're tiered by greek letters which I don't see too often in any other game. Second of all, they're psychic attacks which is a cool idea by itself already. Third, there is quite a bit of variety in them. Of course, you can obviously make Ness' psychic attack to be anything you want. "PSI Ruin" is awesome, and rental copies show "PSI Sex" and other hilarious possibilities.

Once upon a time I had all the PSI attacks visually memorized. PSI Shield Beta had the very pleasing purple screen slide with an equally satisfying feeling of targeting the whole party. PSI Favourite Omega had static tiles and a very distorted and crumbly noise. etc.

The sanctuary idea was awesome as well as what happens after you collect the power of the eight melodies of the earth. Then what happens after that as well, upon the completion of Magicant.

As well, the incredibly clever idea of your dad depositing money in your account, which makes a lot more sense than monsters having gold on them. So much modern concepts executed very very well. The list goes on!

Earthbound is one of my favorite games for the SNES. I love how the main character is a psychic kid weilding a bat/ yo-yo, and constantly rummages through garbage cans in the street finding slices of pizza and other useful items. The game had such a unique plot and was filled with humor. Also Mr. Saturn!

I have so many great memories of Earthbound. I wish I still had the player's guide floating around somewhere.. I remember that me and my best friend both had copies, so we had to label the cartridges so we wouldn't get them mixed up.

Giygas is the most frightening end boss ever.
I thought it was pretty awesome how in the SNES Earthbound they had that pray command that never really seemed to do much of anything. Then when I was fighting Gygas I was perplexed since his stupid retarded ass just wouldn't die. Man, must have been hacking at his fetid corpse for about one hour when it dawned on me. Man, they wouldn't put an entirely useless command like pray in the game, would they. Doing over 1,000,000 HP damage is quite the awesome attack, I must say. One of my favorite boss fights ever.

I also like how you get to kick the stuffing out of Pokey after he torments you for the majority of the game. He got his come-uppance, the little brat.

So many great memories of Earthbound. My kind of humor. Shigesato Itoi is freaking nuts. In a good way of course. Incidentally, the same person who composed the music for Earthbound also helped create the music for the movie Uzumaki. Just a bit of trivia for ya.

This is in Mother 3, about the future of Pokey.

Spoiler:
He makes a comeback, in what looks like a new version of his Spider-Mech, to kill Lucas, Duster, Kumatora and Boney... He's in his classic blue overalls, but his hair is completely white along with a small mustache. Giygas, eliminated by Ness and the other chosen ones, is no-where to be found, and neither are they, considering Mother 3's timeline is way past their lives. The spider-mech is what has kept Pokey alive all these years, apparently. He also has robots that resemble his past self, except for the clothing.

I don't know if that's all correct, but if you know if anything's wrong in that, correct me just in case.

Never played through the SNES Earthbound all the way, but I did play through Earthbound Zero via emulator over the summer -- what a good game.

Can't remember if this was on the Famicon or SNES version, but one of the signs has the quote:

"Rusty Bicycle: rust is the perfect brake."

Good times, Earthbound series. Good times.

I really love Earthbound. One of my absolute favorite games of all time. I'm disapointed that Nintendo isn't porting the game over to the US. *sigh* I guess I'll just wait for the English translation to finish up. I'm still bummed about Mother 3 for the 64DD being cancelled. That game looked pretty damn sweet and I would've bought the 64DD with it if it ever came out here.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
