The Grey's Anatomy slander scandal keeps on going.

When show actor Isaiah Washington told reporters backstage last Monday night at the Golden Globes that he "never called [costar T.R. Knight] a faggot," he reignited a fury that could now cost him his job. Washington made the Globes comment when he was asked about an incident that occurred on the Grey's set in October, in which he allegedly threw the same slur at Knight and physically assaulted costar Patrick Dempsey.

The week following the Globes saw Washington release a statement of apology and ABC release a statement saying the network has "a long-standing policy to create and maintain respectful workplaces" and wouldn't tolerate actions like Washington's.

Despite the public apologies, the actor's job may be in jeopardy. Although ratings for the show hadn't dipped last week, an executive at ABC parent Disney has acknowledged the company is mulling firing Washington. The anonymous executive said in Sunday's New York Times that Washington's behavior may run afoul of Disney's antidiscrimination policy.

In the meantime, Washington has fired his publicist and hired another who specializes in "crisis management." Washington is scheduled to meet with the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network--GLSEN--to assist in the organization's No Name Calling Week, which targets school kids.

"We are encouraged by the apparent sincerity of Isaiah Washington's apology and his recognition of the power of a word that, like so many others, has no place in our society," GLSEN head Kevin Jennings said in a statement. "We would like to thank Isaiah and ABC for reaching out to GLSEN in what hopefully will be an important step in the healing process for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender people, and all those who were offended by the remarks."

This week, Washington is also slated to meet Neil Giuliano, president of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

"We are encouraged by Isaiah Washington's statement and optimistic that it may mark a turning point in this deeply troubling situation," Giuliano said. "His acknowledgment of his actions and of the hurt and harm his actions have caused is an important first step toward healing his relationships with his castmates, his fans and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community."

After the on-set fracas in October, Knight came out publicly that he was gay. Soon after, the cast appeared on Oprah and everything appeared to be smoothed over. After the Golden Globes revisit of the event, Grey's costar Katherine Heigl said she was disgusted with Washington.
That's not cool. I like Burke. It would also seriously mess up the plot lines that they have going now. What do you guys think?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Well recently and FINALLY I should say, Shonda Rhimes herself finally spoke up about the matter.

Quote:
This Just In: Grey's Creator Breaks Her Silence!
Perhaps bowing to mounting pressure, Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes has uttered her first words regarding Isaiahgate via this just-released statement:

"I speak for all the executive producers here at Grey's Anatomy when I say that Isaiah Washington's use of such a disturbing word was a shocking and dismaying event that insulted not only gays and lesbians everywhere but anyone who has ever struggled for respect in a world that is not always accepting of difference.

We’ve been working within the Grey’s family as well as with ABC and Touchstone Television to address the issue in a way that underscores the gravity of the situation while giving us all a foundation for healing. We applaud and encourage Isaiah's realization that he needs help and his subsequent choice to seek immediate treatment for his behavioral issues.

We appreciate the support the fans have always given our show, particularly during this stressful time. Creatively, we continue to strive to make the best television we can with the hope that our show reflects the talent, hard work and professionalism of our cast and crew."

Coincidentally, Washington also put out a statement today, in which he essentially announces that he is, um, seeing a shrink:

"With the support of my family and friends, I have begun counseling. I regard this as a necessary step toward understanding why I did what I did and making sure it never happens again. I appreciate the fact that I have been given this opportunity, and I remain committed to transforming my negative actions into positive results, personally and professionally."

Life & Style, meanwhile, claims Washington is also undergoing a psychological assessment at the urging of ABC.

Long story short? Sounds to me like Isaiah's keeping his job — for now, at least.

Thoughts?

First of all, I think it's kind of a terrible message that he gets to keep his job after bringing this up yet again. I agree with Katherine Heigl when she said, "He shouldn't speak in public, period." It was uncalled for, in fact, most people had forgotten about it and moved on, but that's just insulting to T.R. Knight and the disrepectful to Shonda Rhimes to all the sudden bring up all that stuff when they were supposed to be happy because they won a Golden Globe.

Anyway, he's getting some type of help, but it sounds like Shonda is okay with it as long as he goes to a shrink. The show itself is very diverse and alot of the show is very much about working together, and it kind of goes against the some of he ideals of the show to just say, "Oh, he messed up...again, but he's going to a shrink, so it's okay." I know that now when I watch Burke's scenes I can't feel sorry for him anymore because all I see is Isaiah and his perpetual foot stuffed in his mouth.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Re the latest episode:

Spoiler:
Holy crap. Two random proposals. I think that Christina is going to say yes, but I've a feeling that Callie might not accept. I'm eagerly awaiting the next episode.

Also, Izzy giving her money for the clinic was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too obvious.

Lastly, does anybody else think that the Chief is no longer going to be retiring?

Yay, new Grey's!

Spoiler:
Okay, the proposals. I think Callie is going to accept and Christina is going to say no. I dunno, I think if Christina is as smart as she's proven to be, she'll realize that they cannot get married right now because there have been too many hurt feelings and bad things between them lately. Of course, the same could be said for George and Callie, mostly because they've been back together for like a week or two. Personally, I think both should say no, but I think Callie is going to say yes.

Izzie giving the money was obvious, but what were they going to do with that. I mean, Bailey was running around the hospital....(which I'll talk about her storyline in a minute)...and she needed money in the end, what good would it be if she was going to have to go through weeks of saying, "I'm trying to get funding," when Izzie has the funds and funding it and making it a memorial to Denny is a great therapeutic thing for her.

Anyway, Bailey's story was fantastic and just showed how much the standings of the doctors have fallen. Mark, Derek, Addison, and Burke were so shallow that they were hunting down the chief and kicking him while he's down because it's hard for him to retire. And Bailey didn't even know and she was geniunely shocked and hurt that he was sending her running everywhere, but he made me happy because he said he did it because he wanted to prepare her to be chief, which led to my favorite scene. I was so glad she told the four doctors something like how she was hurt to see the people she admired have become so low and she was ashamed of them and made them sign the papers for the clinic.

Okay anyway, about the chief. I felt so sorry for him and wanted Adelle to die so much. It was just a final stab in his heart when he had to work up the courage to retire, listen to the people circling him like vultures, then having retired and think that he was going to have a happy rest of his life with his wife and having it all been for nothing. I think that he will come back, and that's not good for the four doctors who wanted to take over, because they really showed their true colors during the whole ordeal. Eventually I think he'll leave and then finally Bailey will get to be chief.

Anyway, great episode!

RE: Bailey, and misc

Spoiler:
There is no way Bailey is going to be made chief now. Isn't she still a resident? I'm curious to see what is going to happen with her free clinic though.

I can't wait to see what the answers to the marriage proposals are.

RE: Bailey.....lol

Spoiler:
I didn't say Bailey was going to be made chief now, but the Chief said it himself that he was preparing Bailey to be chief when her time came because he knows she's can do it. She is still a resident right now. I just think that the people that could have been chief... AKA Sheperd and Burke....maybe Addison, not Mark.... when they just hunted him down and tried to pester him to death about it, it showed they weren't ready to be Chief because as the episode began they had other cases and people were mentioning the Chief quitting....towards the end of the episode, they were fully obsessed with who was getting the job.

More like TR Knight is <3! I mean...

You're in for a great ride Enceph, well at least post mid-2nd season. That's when I started. I haven't seen the early episodes. GFF Drama is nothing compared to Grey's Anatomy drama.

Yeah, those first 9 episodes blew me away. I can't believe I never watched it when it came out! I remember my sister telling me about the show and I just did one of those hand dismissal ploys wherein I say, "Meh... It's another doctor show."

My favorite episodes so far are "Self-Destruct Button" and "Who's Zooming Who?":

Spoiler:
Christina finding out she was pregnant and Meredith finding out that Derreck was married were pretty solid plot twists.

I can't wait to get started on the second season.

Season 1 really introduced the characters and all their flaws. Season 2 really packs in the drama. I have a feeling if you're like every other person in the world who watches Grey's Anatomy....you'll LOVE the two-parter they did for Super-bowl weekend when Grey's was on Sundays. Then there are a few small dramas then at the end, you really see the drama put back on involving Izzie and a patient. I think you'll really like it.

I can't wait to see what they have in store for the upcoming 3-part MEGA DESTRUCTION! story that will supposedly run the next 3 episodes. Grey's does an excellent job of jumping back & forth between drama & humor, so it will be interesting to see how they handle something on that massive of a drama scale.

Well I have a spoiler for those who want to know what the big accident is....and I think this is like 96% correct. It's a...*drum roll*

Spoiler:
Fire upon the Ferry-boat....maybe an explosion type thing....

I think they will handle this like they did Season 2's bomb in the belly 2 parter. It focused more on the drama and less on the humor, but the humor was still there with George and Izzie talking about how Meredith and Christina are Do-ers....

I just recently got into Grey's Anatomy, and not being a drama fan, I felt weird liking the show. It's one of those drama shows that's cheesy, but fun to watch at the same time. Season 2 is currently airing here, but I've seen up to episode 10 of season 3, thanks to HK bootlegs.

I just finished watching the second season myself and I this show is getting better by the minute. I think I don't like Izzy so much anymore but DAMN is that Dr. Callie Torres hot. I've already heard a couple people say that she's fat; BULLSHIT that girl got curves, yo.

I gotta say though, my favorite moment in the season was:
Spoiler:
Izzy dumping Alex right before they're supposed to scrub in for surgery on Denny.
Quote:
Alex: You're breaking up with me over a corpse?
Izzy: NO. I'm breaking up with you because on your very best day that corpse is twice the man you will ever be. You're not good enough for me Alex. You're not good enough for anybody.

Fuck... That even hurt me.

Okay, trying to stray away from the Callie hot or not debate.... About the thoughts about Izzy and Alex and the quote Encephalon. I flat out tell every one of my friends...I've hated Alex from the start. He is one of the most arrogant, self-centered people on the show. But ever since season 3 when he had to take care of the abandoned baby....it really opened him up and showed that he is actually a human. As for what Izzy said to Alex about him not being good enough for anybody. I love Izzy and the Denny story was kind of annoying at times, but Denny and Izzy really loved each other even in the short time they knew each other. Alex throughout season 2 when the Denny story started was being a complete jerk and treating Denny like he was already dead. And that hurt Izzy, so she saw Alex how he truly was. Fortunately he's starting to change.

I was pretty disappointed by this week's episode. They tried to make it very tense, but it just felt bland. Grey's this week was lacking whatever usually makes me so attracted to it. I'm hoping that the conclusion to this storyline next week brings "it" back.

Uhhhh, the conclusion to this story line ends in 2 weeks from what I've heard....it's a 3-parter. Anyway, I thought it was fairly good. Dr. Sydney Heron is my favorite guest doctor character because she reminds of this awesome math teacher I had in high school who was all peppy and upbeat like she is. Anyway, in terms of the "wow" factor that they try to do every so often....so far, this doesn't compare at all with the bomb storyline. I'm sure they'll probably put Izzie in some situation since she's on the boat now and she wasn't supposed to go in.

The only thing I had a huge complaint about is the little girl who followed around Meredith. She was very scared and kind of in a shocked state, but when Meredith got tripped and fell into the river, even in the girl's state....she would react in some way. When she didn't react, I really thought that Meredith was seeing herself as a little girl or something, but I remembered Derek asked about the girl and she was in the credits as like "Lisa, the little girl" or something like that.

Quoted for truth. Well, I wouldn't go that far, but she is annoying. Her peppyness serves to conceal a deeply disturbed person. It's true, I just don't remember what episode that was revealed in.

Well that's the thing about her character, she isn't just pep and sunshine and lollipops. In her first episode appearance, she was trying to save the guy with the flesh eating virus and Christina kept making a fuss at her because she was doing something that she thought was wrong. So she ran and told Burke and he scolded her or something, but she stuck up for herself and made the right judgment and Christina was forced to apologize.

But in the last episode, you could tell the character was panicky and scared in that clinic with all the family. And then when Alex told her about some surgery she would love to do instead of in the clinic with "tummy aches", she look annoyed, but she still stuck with it.
