Altering the Windows XP appearance
Are you an avid Windows modder? Do you replace your icon sets? Do you get new themes? New fonts? If so, what programs do you use to mod your Windows XP? What theme do you use? How about your icon set?
How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
I only change the Windows theme and, potentially, the fonts; I do not care about icons or boot screens or login screens.
Once, I used StyleXP to change the themes/styles, but I've since found that the uxtheme.dll patches/replacements work better in the long-run. Currently, on my laptop, I use the Klarheit style. I've come to like that one a lot. How ya doing, buddy? |
I tried boot screens and login screens, didn't work too great for me. Icons I can never find anything matching so I gave up on those.
So I'm with Snowknight with changing only themes and fonts ('sup old buddy). I've tried StyleXP and WindowBlinds but I just don't like them. Its the manual patch and Windows themes that do it for me. However, I don't run XP at all anymore on a personal computer, and I'm very satisfied with Aero, so theming isn't even much of an issue to me. It'll be a while until someone can top Aero in terms of Vista themes. How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
I'm currently using XPize, a piece of software that changes XP's theme, system icons, bootup/logon screens, and others to look a little more polished. I like the black theme it has (although I may try that Klarheit, it looks nice), and I also like how it included TaskSwitchXP since I couldn't remember the name of the program for the life of me.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
Never got into it. All of the software I tried for adding a touch of style to Windows XP consumed too many system resources. The computer is there to be functional above all else, and so I just stopped trying.
I was speaking idiomatically.

I use Windows Blinds myself. I find it relatively easy to use. I only change themes so that I don't to put up with that awful standard XP setup.
I don't change the icons though, or the font. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
I might go as far as changing the icon set completely (but I haven't touched it since 2005, haha.) Also I was using windowsblinds for ages but I started to get tired of all the mini glitches that occur, especially while using programming tools.
So yeah, I'm with Soulzar for the same reason ~minus the icon thing since it's not giving me any problems. FELIPE NO |
