Just an update:

3.03OE-B is out, main features:

1. full res (480x272) .mp4 video enabled through the regular PSP video player. No more crippled resolution size on our videos.

2. Manuals for PSX isos allowed to go up to 1000 pages instead of just 100. Maybe that was your issue, Ken?

EDIT:

DAMN, I updated from A' and now I can't put MGS:PO into sleep mode without it crashing to black when I try to come back from sleep. Anyone else have this problem on 3.03OE-B? I'm asking all over the place but no one's responded yet.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Videos look pretty good now, although, it's not a huge difference from before - but still sexy. =D

Anyways, Pimpstreamer doesn't work for me anymore. And I can't load ISOs from USBhost. I don't want to make up 1.6 GBs for GTAVC. It takes me 30 minutes to put in that amount of space (I got a fake MS).

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

WTF. THANK YOU SOO MUCH!

But... I don't know what games to download. Any suggestions? No Final Fantasy please - something obscure. =)

I haven't had any problems so far. I've been playing FFT religiously and so far it runs at 100% speed and is wonderful. Combine that with being able to put in your own FAQ with the docmaker and I couldn't be happier.

I hear the FF8 freezing issue was resolved with the newest 3.03OE-B release, but I'm not sure about the other games. I think Legend of Legaia still freezes, but I haven't tested this.

I still can't get over how cool playing PS1 games on the PSP is.

Wow, I love the ripped game section. There are so many games that are like 10-20 megs without music/cinematics.

BTW, the sleep mode issue IS one of the bugs of OE-B. So far, it affects MGS:PO if you put the system in sleep mode when not in-mission.

There are some other bugs, too. I hope DAX addresses these issues instead of just going ahead. Messing too much with the firmware (without sufficient beta testing) could break a lot of games/programs.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'm not sure if it is even possible, how to make a Game Manual for ps1 games run on 3.03 OE. You know, that option when you hit the Home button.

Anyone got any info?

How the fuck do you play Vib Ribbon on a PSP? You need to remove the disc and switch it with a CD one. Unless you're going to play the default tracks, which kinda defeats the purpose of the game (although the tracks are still awesome.)

Actually this reminds me. Does the PS1 version of Valkyrie Profile play better than the VP: Lenneth they made for PSP? Someone needs to check that out. Anyway I'd recommend Silhouette Mirage, The Adventures of Lomax the Lemming, Tactics Ogre, and I very very highly recommend Kurushi.

Is the custom firmware's sleep mode issue only with MGS:PO or a problem in general? If it's only PO, I couldn't care less, but if there's a larger problem with sleep mode, I'd hope this kind of stuff was more widely discussed (since right now B is claimed to be "perfect" =/)

Also, since I've not yet switched over from Devhook, I'm not familiar with how to do it. Is there a competent, actually helpful tutorial for installing B for a 1.50 (or any other)?

The instructions that came with B go along the lines "this is for upgrading from A" and the instructions that came with A go along the lines "place file into folder, be sure to move the official installer with the DE-X and OSI booter you got elsewhere", not explaining what they mean with official installer (seems like you needed multiple versions), DE-X or OSI booter (in this case they didn't use these terms, just an example of how out of nowhere it all seemed).

So yeah, I'm confused about what exactly you need beside the custom firmware file to install everything. People who've done it can keep shouting "It's really easy" as much as they want, but it's never easy for someone who's never done it and are worried about fucking up their PSP permanently.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Qwarky:

I believe in order to upgrade to 3.03 OE-B from a 1.5fw, it's:

1.5 > 3.03 OE-A > 3.03 OE-B

It'd be too damn tedious if you'd have to update to 3.02 OE-A > OE-B > 3.03 OE-A > OE-B. You will need the official update EBOOTs of 1.50 and 3.03 (renamed to 150.PBP and 303.PBP respectively). You're also talking about fucking up your PSP. I downgraded from 2.80 > 1.50 with an experimental downgrader that was still wet behind the ears, but came out clean.

http://pspupdates.qj.net/Because-the...g/49/aid/78218

With the exception of the 2 official update EBOOTs, that link will have everything you'll need, including a video tut. Good luck.

Yeah, I managed a downgrade just fine (with a 2.71->1.50 application). But every time instructions have parts like "be sure not to forget to put ______ in there as well" with _____ being an item no one has mentioned before, I worry.

I'll look through the link when I get home then, thanks.

Qwarky, the best installation guide for OE-A (you need OE-A before you can upgrade to -B) is the supplied Readme.txt in the official OE-A archive:

Quote:
Copy oeupdatemaker and oeupdatemaker% to /PSP/GAME if you are in firmware 1.50, or to /PSP/GAME150 if you are in 2.71 SE or 3.02 OE.

Get the 1.50 and 3.03 sony updates, and put them in the oeupdatemaker folder with the names 150.PBP and 303.PBP.

Run oeupdatemaker. It will generate the dxar file DATA.DXAR, whhich has the following hashes:

MD5: 03186D46D2F1B0ACD923098BEBC87281
SHA1: 3C80833A970EEA16A94D74DAFF6220889A9CEE4A

Copy 303oeflasher and 303oeflasher% to /PSP/GAME if you are in 1.50, or to
/PSP/GAME150 if you are in 2.71 SE or 3.02 OE.

Move the DATA.DXAR file to the 303oeflasher.

Run the program. When it finishes, it will ask you to reinit the psp. When you do that, you will be in 3.03 OE-A.
That's all there is to it. Stay clear of so-called "easy installers" as they're said to be instable and likely to brick your PSP.

The devhook installer I used actually had a paypal hijacking tool in it (according to pestpatrol, at least) so it's safe to say you shouldn't bother with that shit and just read up on qj's PSP forums, or something.

Speaking of which, Rock, what kind of setup do you have?

I'm asking because I've had a few cases at work where people have upgraded a US PSP with a European (official) firmware update and their PSP working, but no longer accepting UMDs. I never did find out what exactly caused it, so I could only guess it had something to do with a US hardware/European software mismatch. What are the odds of this happening the other way around as well? All the places I see providing links to downloads of the North American 1.50 and I can only guess the 3.03 is NA as well.

I assume you have a European PSP, did you put European (official) firmware updates on it or use the NA ones when installing 3.03OE?

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

All the official firmware update EBOOTs are identical for all regions. They all contain the same code and the updatemaker only strips what it needs to compile the custom firmware.

Everything is working fine on my end using NA firmware updates (or even Japanese ones) for my EU PSP. I can hook you up with the 150.PBP and 303.PBP files I used for the OE updatemaker or even the precompiled DATA.DXAR (hash-checked) if you want.

I don't know what's causing the UMD problem you mentioned, but it might just be a hardware issue after all. I doubt it has anything to do with firmware updates.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Would that be UMD movies, or game UMDs? It shouldn't matter in the case of games, but movies are region-locked.

I know that, but the customer said games.

Anyway, I installed and am running 3.03 OE-A succesfully now. Now I just need to figure out how to run stuff on this. Devhook had a separate folder for ISOs, I guess someone's already explained all this somewhere in this thread, need to take a look.

Rock, can I remove the updmaker and flasher folders from /GAME/ now that the flashing is done? I mean, I guess I can, but I want to make sure =P

It's the same folder for OE. Just put your ISOs in ... (memory stick root)\ISO\

It's perfectly safe to delete them (there are no system critical files on the memory stick, anyhow). Also note that you have to put 1.50 homebrew in a folder named \GAME150\ if you intend on using any since anything in the \GAME\ folder uses the 3.03 Kernel (although you can change this in the recovery menu).

In other news, I'm currently figuring out how to run the 3.02 version of the POPS emulator on 3.03. Flashing POPS.PRX, POPSMAN.PRX and POPCORN.PRX from my 3.02 OE-B dump seems to do the trick, although PSX ISO compression is no longer supported. The battle transition swirl in Final Fantasy VII works fine again with this method.

I contacted Dark_Alex and asked if he could include multiple (selectable) versions of the POPS emulator in his future OE releases. He's looking into the matter currently, but flash memory space might be too limited for this. Someone suggested using the PRX plugin system, I'll sure to let you guys know the outcome of my research.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Sound interesting... if I wasn't so afraid of the possibility of bricking, I might try that. I'm more inclined to hope that POPS improves in future official releases, though. Then D_A will most likely incorporate them into future "OE" releases.

Have you tried going to Recovery Mode (hold R trigger on cold boot) > Config > Enabling Free UMD Region, or even having Europe enabled as a Fake Region? At least one of those should fix your poeblem.
