I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Alrighty, that sounds good.
Thanks for everyone's help by the way. I'm one of those shoppers that has to research stuff before I buy. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
AFAIK, the 1 year extended warranty is for everyone, whether they bought it new from Amazon or Ebay. The only thing I would suppose would keep one from getting it is if the console is purchased used. Not all Ebay sellers are selling it used though. ![]() What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
You're right in that it probably won't affect anything, but on the off chance you got checked for it, you'd have no real way to challenge them refusing to honor the warranty, because you were violating the terms of it.

Some of my favorite software companies are planning on making their games for the 360. It seems to be rather solid. However....
It bears Microsoft's logo and that scares me. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
There are a lot of good games on and coming for the 360, so if you were to pick on up pengudeus, I don't think you'd regret it. It doesn't matter what system you get, there's always going to be games you'll be glad you got it for and games on other systems that make you wish you had them instead, but there's no way out of that if you only get one system.
My only issue with Microsoft has only ever been that they're always trying to buy companies instead of just doing joint operations like Sony and Nintendo. Microsoft's latest aquisition attempts, Capcom and Nintendo. However this is no fault of Xbox corp, nor does it decrease the quality of the system or games, so don't deprive yourself of games you want to play just due to a companies actions behind the curtains. However don't turn a blind eye either. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Hey guys, certain logos frighten me too.
You know why I don't use Linux? Penguins scare the FUCK out of me. Look at those beedy little eyes. Those hungry looking beaks. That's some seriously scary shit right there. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |

I'm just not a fan of Microsoft's....way of doing business, you see. [/cue] When I imagine supporting Steve Ballmer, it gives me chills at night. Now, I know, it's a biased opinion and I'm not thrusting it upon all of you. It's just a personal preference that I do not support Microsoft. @BZ:Echo all the way! @Slayer: I'm noticing more and more of my favorite game companies migrating their games to the Xbox. That's why my "morals" are getting pushed. In order for me to move to Xbox, it's probably going to have to take a significant combination of these companies: Capcom ( street fighter fan, please don't flame me ) NIS Atlas Hideo Kojima ( Do you blame me? Really? ) I was speaking idiomatically. |

I really don't know. I liked very very few of the games on the first Xbox (Orta...yeah, that's about it, Orta.) and I really dislike the tendency toward having so many FPS or FPS variants (e.g. Gears of War) on the console. Live, to me, is a mixed bag. For people who were/are into multiplayer over the Internet, I guess it's a good thing. Personally, I prefer to be in the same room as people I'm playing with, though. That is what "social gaming" refers to in my lexicon. I will credit Microsoft with doing a bang-up job of standardizing multiplayer with Live, though. As I understand it, all multiplayer-enabled games are required to adhere to Live's guidelines or they don't get licensed/published. That, to me, is good design. It took XBMC for me to even be interested in the original Xbox. I still don't own one, though I'd be willing to spend 80 bucks or so to be able to tinker with it. I know it's to be expected that the "Media centre" features of the 360 will be DRMed up the wazoo, but that effectively kills it for me. All my files are in either open (FLAC, x264, XviD) or proprietary non-microsoft (mp3, DivX) formats and I don't want to re-encode everything to be able to use it on my 360, especially if it's just because Microsoft wants to push their WM format. That said, however, I'd buy a 360 DECADES before I'd even touch a PS3. Fuck Sony and their system-rooting, overcharging, "Second coming of Ken Kutaragi" business practices. Of course, if I could just get my hands on a Wii, this whole argument would be moot in my corner of the universe. FELIPE NO It is not my custom to go where I am not invited. |

![]() Also, I remembered on the way home that I can at least vouch for one 360 game being decent: Ninety-Nine Nights. I still enjoy Drakengard a bit more (dragons FTW) but the ability to actually command a small army as opposed to going solo the whole time was a nice twist on the "one dude vs. OMGZ MILLIONZ GUYZ" premise. If I didn't already have a gamepad, I'd consider the 360 controller for my emulators. It's damn comfortable. Not quite Gamecube comfortable, but damn comfortable nonetheless. Jam it back in, in the dark. It is not my custom to go where I am not invited. |
Drakengard angered me with its poor dialog and failed attempt at a plot. The only character whom I would have preferred hearing ANY dialog out of became silent due to his pact.
Game play was good while repetitive. But this is an XBox forum and I shouldn't delve further into a PS2 game ![]() There's nowhere I can't reach. |
N3 fell victim to the same sibling rivalry as Xenosaga saw between Shion and Jin, though at least Inphyy had 3x the balls her brother did and wasn't about to take crap from him. Otherwise, the plot was (as I recall) pretty shallow. Then again, one usually doesn't play games like that for the plot anyway. It did have a pretty badass orchestral soundtrack, perhaps more listenable than the tense, high-strung, deliberately repetitive Drakengard OST. I liked them both, but what do you expect? A VGM whore is me.
I'm going to give the 360 another year and see where it is in the way of available games and console price. HD-DVD doesn't interest me, so the add-on probably won't come into play at all. If there are more games out that are really interesting and unique (a la Katamari, Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, etc.) and that do not involve micropayments (worst idea ever), I might seriously consider picking up a 360. Of course, this assumes I have the extra cash amidst paying off student loans and saving for a house or condo. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. It is not my custom to go where I am not invited.

While in N3 you could command your army, it didn't really even feel like anything happened. But, if you like it, then it's cool. It's not a bad game. If you liked that game, you should probably try Phantagram's other game, Kingdom Under Fire, which should be quite nice (on the Xbox, but probably can't play it unless you have an Xbox). Unless you don't like the whole medieval fantasy thing.

So as the time to get a new HDTV approaches, the 360 is on the top list to supplement it! A few questions.
1) As the original Xbox 1 experienced its first price drop in about May of the following year of the launch date, can we expect the same deal to be announced by Microsoft anytime soon - ie a price drop by say, $50-100 in mid May 2007? 2) As I've asked Colonel Skills before, has there been any current news for a black Xbox 360 with 120 GB and HDMI? I've read that Australia might be getting them, and the whole black 360 has been in the rumor mills (as I've read from various sources after Googling), but so far nothing really 100% concrete yet. Not that I'm doubting what Skills is telling me here, just curious if anyone has heard anything else - which I can understand if it's not 100% confirmed, just some news would be great. ![]() I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() - What we all do best - |
A price break is unlikely since the new model 360 is supposedly on its way soon (the one with the 120 gig HDD, HDMI, and cooler running processors). Maybe you could get one of the current model 360s at a reduced price once the new model is released, but then you'd be missing out on the marginal improvements. I'm not sure how they're going to handle the situation though.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? I didn't say I wouldn't go fishin' with the man.
All I'm sayin' is, if he comes near me, I'll put him in the wall. |
If it is retailing for that much, obviously the price of the other SKU's will drop. FELIPE NO ![]() Bless the Maker and His water. Bless the coming and the going of Him. |
The rumours could turn out to be true, but making suggestions that one should hold off on a purchase until a new unit which may or may not come out any time soon isn't something I like to do. The problem right now is that there is no real way to determine what's bullshit and what's not. May 1st sounds like a completely arbitrary date, to be honest, so I dunno.
I guess it's all up to you and how badly you want the product. If the colour and improved features of the Zephyr sound like something you'd love, sit it out until we find out for sure. Most amazing jew boots |

So, Elite confirmed. Like we didn't see this coming from 14 or 15 THOUSAND miles away. Ah, well. We got three new things for the new, higher price. It's black, it's got HDMI, and it's got a 120 GB drive. Ok, for that price I won't be getting it. For a variety of reasons. I've had my 360 since launch and the 12 gigs of free hard drive space is now down to 11.3. I don't need the space, especially since the video marketplace in Canada is non-existant. I was hoping aginst hope that they'd phase out one of the other skus when this drops. I guess not. The rather useless core getting chucked out the window would have been supreme. But having 3 SKUs is just :ughmode:. I can understand the rather smart business decision this is. ("Everything the PS3's got and more, for less!" basically), but it'd still be nice to see them make the HDD standard on all new units by ditching the core. The biggest gip is the price of the fucking hard drive. 180 bucks for a 120 gig hard drive by itself? What. The. FUCK. That's just completely fucking crazy. The 20 gig was bad enough, but this price is re-fucking-diculous. Wayyyyy too high. Very sagey. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Seriously, you'd think with all the updates and the new SKU that have been done to make the system more like a PS3 or a PC or something, that they'd at LEAST have some competative pricing. I can get a 120Gig HDD for my PS3 for $80CAD, the new 360 120 HDD on it's own is around $200 according to IGN's 03/22/07 podcast is total bull. HDMI isn't that improved over component+optical to make it worth while either, especially since DVD doesn't have higher grades of surround sound like HD-DVD or BR-DVD. Besides, you're just going to get the 120Gig model to find that you don't have access to something like 80Gigs, just like the premium 360. 20Gigs my ass. I'll stick with the 360 I've got now, especially since it took 3 tries to get a system that lasted longer then three months.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Hmm, I can only think of one good reason for buying it, and that's the larger HDD. I don't care about the colour and I'm satisfied with Component (as my HDMI is occupied by my PS3)
However, the price for the HDD seperat is quite spicy. Especially if you translate it to Danish crowns, with VAT and whatnot... This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
What type of launch madness can we expect from this? Can we expect boatloads of midnight campers and pitched tents like any other recent console launch? At least its on a Sunday, so I don't have to spend my flex days or vacation time just to sit in on it. 30 days, come on man.
