I lurk a certain Discworld forum every now and then, and there have been a few posts there from people who saw and liked the film and who now want to get into the books.
Most people wonder about certain things though. A lot of people didn't seem to understand why the Auditors wanted the Hogfather dead and so on. I can agree with that, the film doesn't really expand on how much the Auditors dislike humanity.

I agree with you about the editing, it goes a bit to much back and forth sometimes I think.

I was surprised to see how much of the dialogue was taken straight from the book. My favourite scene was probably in the Hogfather grotto when Death is giving the presents to the little kid... That girl was just fantastic. Loved the look on her face when she noticed her Mom had become 'frozen', so funny.

Another nice thing was that the some scenes were quite powerful. The Castle of Bones collapsing was surprisingly emotional, and Susans little chat with Death near the end was also nicely done.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I have to agree, this is quite a decent book to film adaption. Certainly, the special effects and a couple of sets could have looked better but the story really draws from its characters and dialogues and this is where the competent script and a great cast came in. I would have preferred more Death of Rats over that Albert/cigarette running gag though, but that's really just a minor gripe.

One passage I remembered vividly from the book was recreated particularly well, namely...
Spoiler:
...the Auditors' demise, followed by Death's lecture on the "big lies".
That's one of those scenes where Pratchett's work really exceeds mere parody.

I just managed to watch the first part of the Hogfather it aired 1pm here in the UK and I must say it was rather good, despite not being familiar with he writings of Terry Pratchett. Mark Warren was excellent as Teatime and Death was a really well written character voiced wonderfully by Ian Richardson accompanied by his Sidekick 'Del boy' David Jason. The next part looks even better than the first, and I must say for a Sky One programme they haven't skipped out on production quality.

How ya doing, buddy?
