I almost want to say that this is reason enough for the Penguins to NOT stay in Pittsburgh. If the state is going to ignore the potential windfall of tourism and the years of a quality team the Penguins have coming to them, they really don't deserve to have them. It might be heartbreaking to the true fans of the Pens (the three or four of us on GFF included) to see the history (as dismal as most of it may be) of this franchise and the great career of Mario Lemieux disappear and be replaced by something else. See the Hartford Whalers, Quebec Nourdiques, Winnipeg Jets, Minnesota North Stars. It's extremely disheartening and now Penguins fans have to hold out for a rich benefactor who will abide by not moving the Penguins out of town and get them that new arena (see Mark Cuban?).

How ya doing, buddy?

Mark Cuban only wanted to buy the Pens if he could get a new arena. They could have put this shit to bed so easily, but now it's going to continue to be a cluster fuck.

So, if the Penguins move, where's the place you'd like to see them move?

I'd love to see Hartford get the Penguins, if only because it'll bring them closer to me, but that would amplify those rivalries with the Rangers and Bruins.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Well I don't want them moved anywhere obviously. There are still some possibilities that they will not move. If this Plan B shit actually works out then thats a possibility. Also if that D'Angelo guy buys the Pens, I'd say thats the best situation for the team. He said he would build a fully functional arena with his own money.

All still speculation. I don't think anyone knows what will happen next.

I don't want them to move either, but in the highly unfortunate event they move...

Anyone who thought Savard was a product of playing with his wingers can't have seen him play very much over the years. He's always had incredible vision and great hands. The main concerns I've always heard about him are his attitude (which he's apparently worked on a lot and managed to improve) and his penchant for getting hurt. So far, so good!

What concerns did Balsillie have with the NHLs demands? Have any of you guys seen a rundown anywhere of what they were?

And man, the last thing the NHL needs is another team stuffed into the northeastern US. Fuck Hartford. A team should never return to a market that a team previously had to move away from until it's relatively certain that they'll be supported by a fan base.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Primarily, he wanted to move the team.

So I'm the only person who wants to see Staal, Malkin and Crosby in a Whalers jersey? I'd fucking switch teams in a heartbeat if that happened.

What difference does it make if I refer to her as a dyke? Or if I call the Whalers a bunch of faggots in the comfort of my own office, far from the sensitive ears of the rest of the world?

As a fan of the various whalers jerseys (even though I didn't really even know where Hartford was back in the day), all I can really say is holy shit, make it happen, now!!

I have a bunch of Whale jerseys too. Those things are fucking hard to find, now. And the fact that I can't make the Whalers in NHL 06 or NHL 2k6 pisses me off to no end.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

It's not for certain yet. It seems that Lemieux will still discuss keeping the team in Pittsburgh once their agreement with Isle of Capri expries in a few weeks. However, it does seem like the chances of them staying are starting to get quite low.

This sucks. They have one of the most exciting teams in the entire league right now, and they might end up moving. What a waste.

True, it's not for certain, but, like you said, the likelihood of the PENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNS staying in Pittsburgh are down to about 10%. If Pittsburgh or Pennsylvania cared about the Penguins this never would've become an issue.

I'm sure Quebec City feels for you, mate. The difference is that next year the Pens probably won't win the cup, QC had to watch their team move to Colorado, add a goaltender, and take the hardware. Ouch.

The real difference is Deni is a pompous dick.

This whole thing just makes me extremely sad. The Pens are the only team in Pittsburgh with a chance at success, and they're all but gone.

Calm down people. It's just a fucking scare tactic. Mario knows saying things like this is the only way to get the local officials to do something about it.

I know that Wojo, but when you look at the politics of the state, what do they care? Our governor has never done a single thing for our city, instead solely focusing on his beloved Philadelphia. There's still hope, and I'll be there for any rallies planned, but things sure aren't looking too good for us.

I agree the politicians are horrible in this area, however I would like to think that they do not want to go down in the history books as the politicians that made the Pens leave town.

They just have to make Plan B work. If it does work, I'm all for it.

Could you explain to me what exactly "Plan B" entails? I've heard this term being thrown around for the last couple years, it seems, but I've never actually gotten a good explanation of what it entails.

Plan B is not clear cut at all. But it deals with the new casino owner (Barden) paying 7 mil each year over 30 years for the arena, some of it is what the owner of the Pens will have to pay, and the rest is probably going to fall on the tax payers (which is bullshit).

That's about all I know.
