The Christmas Blues..
For someone reason, for as long as I can remember, I have always get this case of really bad christmas blues. I feel really shitty, I feel really depress, Upset w/ everything, I can't seem to shake all these bad feelings and I become overly mellow, like nothing phases me but I want to cry all at the sametime... It's wierd.
Now, don't get me wrong, during the year I get depressed from time to time, but I can usually just shake them right off w/ a little bit of a self pep talk but when Christmas comes around.. I just start thinking about how much I wasted my last year, accomplished nothing, or I point out where I fucked up during the year. I know I shouldn't I try to tell myself otherwise but for some reason I can't seem to get over it. Now my medical history may have something to do w/ it.. I'm bi-polar and Boarderline Schizo but I hate meds, been on them and I hated being a pill zombie, I rather feel then not feel at all. Basically, I'm asking if anyone has suffers from this and anyone have a common cure for the Christmas blues? Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
I have not had depresstion often during the holidays but this year I have holiday blues pretty bad.
My cat snuck out of my home while my brother was changing the door knob and now we cannot find him. I am very upset and I have posters all over the place, filed missing reports with animal shelters and when on the air on radio stations. My boyfriend has been feeling the same way since I told him about it. He is working in a different provice and will be home in a week. He loves that cat so much. It is hard to say on what will make you feel better, I am sure our reasons for having the blues are different, but I am trying to be optimistic, my cat is really fat and has alot of fur, so he should be well protected from the cold, also my area is well populated, so I am sure he may have been taken in by someone, I just have to claim him. Whatever has you down, try to feel the same way, look at the bright side more then the dark side, It may help, at least a little. Hope you feel better. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
So you're bipolar and slightly schizophrenic, so I guess Christmas is just the time when your "disorder" gets polarized a bit more.
My advice would be to moderate your feelings, try to relativate happy feelings as well as sad ones. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
well, now that I have a new family when I got married this year, christmas always makes me feel a little bit sad because my father is not around anymore, but I take a little time out each christmas season to just sit down, stare out the window, and take time to remember him, and the good times I had with him. it's my christmas gift from him each year

I've got the Christmas blues real bad this year, thanks to very recent events. I'm learning how to deal with it, but it's still become the worst time of the year for me. The cold feels colder somehow.
I don't know if there's a common cure for the Christmas blues, except for maybe friends. If you have good friends, they can always cheer you up, if you let them. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
If your friends aren't busy this month, spend some time with them. Do some fun things with them. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
The funny thing is that I think you might be right... Last year, I didn't have the christmas blues b/c I guess I had alot to look forward to in the time following christmas plus I spent most of my christmas time partying so I had nothing reason to focus on it.
How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
Or you might be affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder which occurs because you're not exposed to as much sunlight as you are in the summer. It varies though for each individual person, but unless you feel like this all the time regardless of season, SAD might be it.

In which case you need to buy a light box...
![]() Try not to focus on the negatives. The Christmas season is a time for reflection and for looking to the new year. That gives you a whole new 365 days to accomplish things. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() ![]() |
I usually feel a bit down around Christmas, mainly because I miss the feeling of it back when I was little. Not only do we not have enough money anymore to get very many gifts, but the whole "Santa" aspect is gone. So this month is usually filled with more nostalgia about my childhood than usual.
I agree with Ayos and Bolide; I'd recommend social interaction to cheer you up, whether from (liked) relatives or friends of yours. How ya doing, buddy? |
Can't say I suffer from Christmas Blues or anything, but I don't get the feeling of Christmas when I am in the city for University. I kinda get lost in time when Christmas comes around and I am still at school. When I go home, things are more community like, and it feels more like Christmas.
A great cure is to be with family and friends. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Yeah, I've heard of Seasonal Affective Disorder.
My mom always gets a bit depressed during the wintertime... She actually bought a flourescent light and sat in front of it for like an hour a day to get extra light. But, she's kind of weird, so who knows if it even works. Get outside as much as you can. Friends are also a good distraction. I understand what you mean about the pills. Sometimes they can just make you feel so neutral that you're like, "Screw this, I'd rather be alive and crazy than a friggin' zombie." I'm not crazy though; I'm depressed. Winter is pretty bad, because that's the season my boyfriend and I spent a lot of time together. GOSH, now I feel sad. Must distract! *colors a map of the middle east* I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Well, Christmas is also the moment to watch nice movies to cheer you up, like The Gremins or ... oh wait ...

I don't know. I never really think about what I've done this or that year. I just let things have their way and stick with what I've got at the moment. Never really get depressed at certain seasons, but I do get depressed every now and then.
I heard somewhere that the suicide rate goes through the roof during the holidays, especially on Christmas Eve. Sure hope we'll have quiet Christmas this year (well, obviously not TOO quiet :P (bad joke)). Most amazing jew boots |
I can understand it... alot of stress around the holidays, especially with money, or confusion at not knowing what gifts to give people. My saving's account is suffering from depression (another bad joke).
Eat some good, homecooked food, treat yourself, and look for plenty of hang out time with friends. Friends are always the key. ![]() Most amazing jew boots ![]() |
