I was wondering if anyone knows of any programs available that can easily determine the frame rate of wmv files.

I am going through the process of batch transcoding wmv files to mp4 format for iPod (using PSPVideo9), but unfortunately I've been having problems with one particular series, in that the audio of the output file gradually goes out of sync.

I figure either it's a weird frame rate that's throwing the sound off, or the source files are encoded with variable frame rate (I hope not to the latter... because if true, I'm not quite sure what to do).

As you can probably tell, I'm not all that adept at the ins and outs of video encoding and transcoding

. The most I've ever done is simple DVD-to-avi ripping using Gordian Knot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I found that Media Player Classic can give you that info.

Under "View" check 'statistics' and you can see the info for Frame-rate.

If that number doesn't satify you, go to File > Properties > details tab..
it should show the framrate listed by Video.

For mass video identifying.. I don't know. You could drop your videos in Adobe After Effects or something..

Okay, I just checked the wmv files through the statistics, and lo and behold they are variable frame rate

Does anyone know how to transcode variable frame rate wmv files?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Actually I think the real number you wanna see is the one under the properties (Shift f10) under Details tab.. there'll be a box with something like

Video: Windows Media Video 9 416x312 20.00fps 600Kbps [Raw Video 1]

in my example the fps is 20.

I also tried to pull the same wmv file into my After Effects and it says 20fps too.
So the one listed under Properties in MPC is the one you probably want.

I tried GSPot (v2.21 and v2.60) before creating this thread, but neither of them give stats on WMV files

Also, tried encoding using the framerate reading from media player classic, and unfortunately, the audio still gradually goes out of sync
