Though what you say is true... Excite truck came with my bundle and I
couldn't do anything about it. I was planning to keep it unwrapped and trading it in at Besy Buy after Christmas (they don't require reciepts), but my little cousins wanted to play it ^_^''' I just thought I can at least get $24 towards a game i actually want in my library. As for Wiiplay, this is taken from the EBgames site: * Shooting Range, a point-and-fire game of target practice in the Duck Hunt tradition. * Billiards, a simplified variation of nine-ball with stunningly realistic physics that uses your Wii Remote as your pool cue. * Find Mii, in which you scan the crowds to find the right Mii - and Miis you and your friends created make an appearance. * Tanks!, in which you command a toy tank on a miniature battlefield in a gauntlet of 100 missions. * Other games include Pose Mii, Table Tennis, Fishing, Charge! and Laser Hockey. Sounds awesome! There's nowhere I can't reach. |
So I had to manually assign my Wii an IP to get online and it appears everything is running smoothly now.
Just got both updates, everything still functions A-OK. Someday I might buy a VC game, if the right ones come out. EDIT: Did anyone catch Stephen Colbert playing his Nintendo Wii? Someone uploaded a flash of the video here. Number one threat because it is so addicting. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Was watching midday news today...
"And in America, lines like these were present during the launch of the new Nintendo Wii which plays with a new type of control... ARM MOVEMENTS *shows Nintendo Power Glove worn by Nintendo fanboy lining up for Wii* "However, the PS3, which has more features and better graphics... *2 minutes more about PS3*" Looks like Nintendo still ain't getting the respect here... -_-' AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN GET AN ACCURATE NEWS STORY! Ps3, sure, cool. But that was shoddy journalism at best. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Eh, there's been an even mix of good and bad reports on both systems. Moreso good reports on the Wii from what I've read and heard. Guess it depends on where you live.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Yeah, around here I haven't heard anything about either system except about the Wii update thing which I have actually to hear of or meet anyone who had that happen to them. And then there's the disc drive things with both the Wii and the PS3. I remember last year though, everyone was ripping the 360 apart about it's hardware issues so bad, but this years there's nothing to be heard... lol. So yeah, I have no idea what's really going on with the two newcomers, but I figure there's nothing all that serious to worry about... yet.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Man, when are demo kiosks gonna turn up in the UK? :/
How ya doing, buddy? |
anyone check out the new Facrcry update on IGN? My God that game looks like utter trash. Seriously, how do they think making 2 generation old graphics is going to help the Wii out as a system, or for that matter immerse the player in the game???? I mean gameplay is important and all but...
I hope this trend does not continue further on Wii games. Maybe this is just a bad nightmare and I will wake up tomorrow like nothing ever happened. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I think Farcry and Call of Duty 3 (unless that one's been updated since I last saw it) just suffer from lazy developers. They got the idea of graphics not mattering at all on the Wii, so they didn't bother to put forth any effort at all. Both of them are on pretty much every system, so they probably didn't consider it worth the time and money to tweak the graphics just for the Wii.
Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
yea, but that kind of thought can ruin a system and put preconceived ideas into the generally game ignorant masses head about the systems potential. I just wished that if they were going to half ass something don't do it at all. Instead they should put those wasted efforts toward something worth it.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
FUCK THE GRAPHICS.
At least the preview sounds like it will be the first decent FPS on Wii. Most amazing jew boots ![]() Anime lover, gamer, and dreamer |
People have already seen what the Wii can do and it has sold over 500, 000 units, already. I don't think that trend of ugly graphics will affect it at all. But I really want a Wii... ;___; All I need is $150, and a job to get me that money.
*Handjobs for $150 ;_; I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() Want obscure Classical Music CDs? Search: http://www.lib.uwo.ca/ PM me the code, I'll rip it for ya [MAX 2 CDS/User] |
It doesn't matter what system it is, people are going to buy any new system that comes out as long as there's enough supply for the demand they'll sell like hot cakes, it's not till later where things like graphics and coming games actually matter to people, otherwise things would be a lot different in the industry.

'Round Seattle here, for 150 bucks you can damn well expect full service or at LEAST a BJ, not this tug of war bullshit. So open up or charge less. ![]() What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
well if the developers keep throwing out half baked games it WILL break the system (and I don't mean specifically the Wii, but any of the 3 new consoles). Mark my words. Graphics do matter in a sense because it is that that helps to immerse you in the world. Zelda is a great game not only because of its use of the Wii controller which helps make the series fresh and even more natural in many aspects, but also because of the amazing world depicted in the game which is brought forth by none other than the GRAPHICS. You cannot dismiss that fact. Just because Wii is not a graphical powerhouse does not mean that developers shouldn't spend the time to make the games look nice.
That is my point. And they can. If they put forth effort, but I guess effort in ones line of work just isn't important anymore. Jam it back in, in the dark.

garth: I know what you're saying, and it is something that is said at the developer's conference every year. And actually Cliffy B also spoke at the conference saying this same thing.
(Basically what Cliffy B said at the Developer's Conference 2004, can be found on his blog) Videogames are made up of three components; visual, sound, and interaction. If a game lacks in any of these three areas then you are setting your game up for failure. The belief that "Graphics don't matter" is used too often as an excuse then as a fact. It is true that if one of the three areas isn't perfect, that a mastery in another area can make the gamer overlook that, however if you totally make it so that the game looks like shit, then it doesn't matter how good the gameplay is. Or if Gears of War were to have midi music and retro gun effects, no one would want to play it either. And finally if the gameplay's bad then you've lost the gamer before the other two factors even have a chance to really display themselves. Back to how this relates with the topic at hand. I think the Wii will be fine. It can give you reasonable graphics along with good sound and unique gameplay. It won't be a gamer's only console, but it could be for the casual gamer. Five years from now it's possible that the Wii may no longer be able to stand up against the 360 & PS3 after they hit $300, however all three Nintendo, Sony & Microsoft have all said that the Wii is kind of on it's own. No one is going to buy a 360 or PS3 over a Wii if that's what they want. Just like no one is going to buy a Wii over the other two if they want amazing graphics, online play along with HD & 5.1 audio. So while they may be in competition for the casual gamer, they are in two different fields when it comes to the fulltime gamer. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Good points Slayer X~
Personally, i like the Wii because i can't seem to dedicate much time to gaming as i normally do. I can pick it up and play. I'm not saying that all the Wii games are quick-pick-play, but i feel satified with its casual style (not to say i'm new to gaming). I think this hit me when i started college~ I can't sit there in an RPG equipping all my characters to the max and set up skills for 15-30 minutes anymore. <--- FF: Tactics anyone? The reason i picked my DS and Wii is because it's not 'hardcore' ^_^ and i'm just looking for a quick FIX before work or class. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
The fact of the matter is, even if they have differing target audiences and offer different experiences, they're still competing video game consoles. And, you know, the Wii is capable of online play, and arguably "amazing graphics," if not HD graphics - there's a difference. However, the former requires a lot more effort on the part of developers. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() Bless the Maker and His water. Bless the coming and the going of Him. |
For those who want hardware sells number of Wii, PS3 and *cough*Xbox360,*cough* NexGen Wars has them.
And damn I missed the boat again. I called one Best Buy and they said it seems like they will have more Wii in stock every Sunday. I was speaking idiomatically. |
I went down to GAME today. I wanted to know if I can get a Wii on launch. As I was number 6 in line, it seems like I'm in luck.
I've saved up for both machine and game(s) plus some extra tad, so I'm good I think. So I'm getting a Wii ( $370.36 ) Zelda Wii (Because I read the review in Edge, which finally convinced me - $88.01 ) Controller plus nunchuck ( probably another 88 bucks...) Sigh, then I'm totally broke and have to start all over again for PS3. And that's probably $917.09 for the thing alone... What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
But once again these are just educated guesses based on past trends and societies appeals.
As for the HD and all that. It can do up to 480P which for someone with an HD set is barely worth while, and the Wii still only has surround sound emulation and not true 5.1. But like I said earlier. If someone is buying a Wii for HD and surround sound... then they're a fool. Most amazing jew boots |
I agree with you slayer. Something that does make me think the Wii is in with a big chance in the generation of consoles is the success of the Ipod. If the Ipod's shown us anything it's that if you have a sleek looking machine with a simple and easy to use interface (along with effective marketting) one product can take over the market. I think that if Nintendo does things right perhaps the Wii could be the new Ipod and become a household item but there's a very long way to go before that happens

NES and SNES adapters that go into the Gamecube ports. Somewhat expensive, but you can get the complete retro feel without blowing into cartridges! Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
Finally got my Wii today, so awsome. It happened to be the last one at the HMV near my work place.
Anyway, I finally got to play Wii Sports, Zelda, and Trauma Center. Sports is turning out to be some great fun, especially the Tennis and Bowling. Zelda, I'm not too far in, but no surprises so far (still in the village). Trauma Center, just played 2 missions, seems fun, but not too far in yet. I'll be posting my friends code after I get my wireless router up and running. I can tell that it's going to be a pain to input all those codes in the friends code thread.
