got my first match with cobalt tonight ^^ we played a breach game (where you have to destroy the core of the opposite team and strengthen your defense of your base by capturing spawn point) we played in the same team and the last match was pretty fun, a little rough but our team win both round ^^ and I finished second with cobalt following me in third ^^

we should meet up one night and create a game ^^

Apparently, the PS3's DVD playback is going to get much, much better in the coming update(s).

Quote:
* H.264 decoding itself was not very difficult for Cell with moderate optimization and they could play a movie in realtime at the first try unlike very difficult SACD optimization. However, because they began the development without knowing the final Blu-ray standard, they set the goal very high for decoding 2 full HD H.264 streams at 40Mbps simultaneously. Besides the clockspeed of the devkit was lower than the final product which made the development difficult. The current decoder can decode full HD H.264 with 3 SPEs.
Quote:
* Currently there are complaints from users about non-existent DVD upscaling in the PS3. As for the interlace-to-progressive before upscaling, the current player has it already. There was a team at the division for broadcast equipments at Sony that does research for improving image quality by using the NVIDIA shader language. They ported it onto RSX. After Cell does noise reduction and other filters, RSX does interlace-to-progressive conversion. Though the current algorithm has bugs for some video sources, SCE says the conversion precision will be upgraded by future updates. Also the noise reduction filter is currently optimized for video sources with relatively many MPEG noises recorded with a video recorder. SCE knows lack of picture details because of it and will provide new default values for noise reduction by checking recording formats and media IDs for DVD discs.

As for upscaling, they are doing the research to develop a high-quality multi-tap upscaling filter that balances the load between Cell and RSX. They also plan to use the non-original luminance information generated in upscaling for HDMI 1.3 deep color.
I don't quite get all the technical talk, but the folks in GAF are quite jazzed about this. Hopefully this will all be available in December's update (which coincides with the delivery of my new LCD), and hopefully the same features will be added for PS1/PS2 upscaling.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

That would rock, if it handled PS1/2 upscaling as well I don't quite understand all of that either, but I'm going to trust techheads' excitement to mean "good thing"

I don't know why so many people want upscaling for the PS1/2 games. I ran the 360 in 1080P mode before it had native 1080P and at that time any game that wasn't meant for 1080 looked better in 720P, no contest. So in other words upscaling doesn't make things look better unless you have a 50" TV because the game wasn't meant for that resolution.

I don't know if that's how it's supposed to be, but that's what I've taken from my experiances and many other people who upscaled on the 360 would tell you the same thing.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

wow at about one month of the Japan release Gran Tourismo HD just got cancel ... they said that they wanted to concentrate better on GT5 than this one... gran turimos HD will stil be release it like little demo version on the playstation store december 24 under the name of Gran Turismo HD Concept.

I'm a little surprise about this. They seem to put a lot of effort on this game and release a lot of video and now they just cancel everythign XD well anyway, their idea about realeasing a empty game that you have to but little other pak to have the whole game really didn't interest me...I hope they will not do this with GT5...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

With all the negative press surrounding the concept for GT HD, I'm not all that surprised. I mean seriously, who the fuck is gonna pay any amount of money to stock cars, tracks, and parts that should otherwise exist.

Granted, I'm a decently sized Sony fan. I like the machine and I like the potential and the games it has and will bring. But Gran Turismo HD was a dumbass concept and a bad attempt at spurring on the microtransaction phenomenon.

So Inhert, this is actually quite good news.

Well first off it's too bad that everyone over the past year has been eating at Sony like Vultures. I'm not blaming anyone here, but just reviewers, magazines, etc. First it was the PS3 concept controller, everyone kept on saying that it was the actual controller, turning a def ear to Sony who kept on saying that it was just a concept. And then it was GT HD. That the lead designer said since day 1 that the microtransaction thing was just an idea, they never said that it's how they were actually going to sell it, but once again, everyone's so quick to bring the downfall of Sony that they just ignore that part... man people have an imagenary bug up their ass for the last while and I don't understand why.

Then finally everyone's like, "The PS3 is like $700", where they don't even look at what's in the $550 bundle and the $650 bundle because of Microsoft's stupid packaging of the 360 everyone thinks that you have to get the premium PS3 and that the core one is junk like it was with the 360. Where in fact the core PS3 came with everything the premium 360 had and it was only $50 more then the P-360, and then the P-PS3 was still cheaper then the 360 if you wanted everything the P-PS3 had because;

*****Flash Card Reader***60 GB HDD**HD-DVD/B-Ray Player**Wi-Fi****Total
P-PS3****Included********Included*****Included *******Included***$650
P-X360****None**********None********$200**********$1 20*****$820

And you still lack stuff on the 360... man are people misinformed and stupid now a days.

(Sorry, just had to put that out there)

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

GT:HD being cancelled and instead released as a free demo (because in the end, that's what it is; a demo for GT5) is the smartest decision Sony's made this year. Now you can actually appreciate it as a visual showpiece for what lies ahead, instead of that microtransaction crap.

Yup! More is way better! Who cares if it's a completely useless feature?? As long as it's there, it'll totally up the value.

I'm surprised you didn't list "Chrome Faceplate".

That's the point of a premium bundle. YOU GET MORE!!! And if you don't want it then you buy the standard bundle. And with the lack of stuff that the core 360 came with the system itself was basically useless without an HDD or memory card. At least both PS3s allow you full functionality as far as the games are concerned.

Do we really have to start this argument up again? It's pointless. Both systems are out now, and it's all about the games from this point forward.

Really glad GT:HD was canceled and put as a free download. Hope it gets available here, even though I don't particularly like GT. But at least shit-flingers have one less thing to hurl now.

I hope it comes out here too. I'm always up for free stuff, even if I don't like simulation games. Must say though, right now I want a PS3 for the Assasin's Creed & MotorStorm demos... too bad I can't find a darn system to acutally BUY.

Quick question - do demo downloads cost money? Somebody told me that they cost like a buck each on the PS3 as well as the 360. If this is true, that is insanely retarded. Isn't a demo a form of advertising?

Can you have something downloading and play a game at the same time? That would be nice as I imagine that downloads will be freaking huge. It'd be annoying having to wait until the d/l is finished.

Lynx: Priorities do help to keep life in check

The PS3 did just come out, and this is Sony's first time with such a huge online project, I personally find it amazing that Sony's been able to do as much as it has. It's done better then Nintendo by far and is not too far off from the 360 except for in a few convienent features. If Sony remains serious I believe they could pull something really amazing off, despite the price of the hardware.

Did the release date for Oblivion change? Today's Wal-Mart ad had it listed along with NBA '07, but it didn't have an actual date.

Nothing really big in news or anything, but it looks like the playb3yond website is finally finished. Their 'games' section is pretty neat, as it shows a lot of the big games coming out for the PS3, including trailers and screenshots.

I think they ditched some of the videos they had planned to release earlier as well, as I remember more 'Coming Soon' links than what they have right now. Oh well.
