I want to convert an swf file to an avi. How can I do this? What program should I use? Can someone recommend a free one or supply one with a crack? Thanks for any help.

Check out SUPER encoder. It can go back and forth between any format you'll need. Works for me.

EDIT:

For some strange reason it's not working for me. Drop down menu where you pick the output file type won't even drop down for some reason. Any other programs I can try?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

If you're running a skinning tool like windowblinds, then it fucks with SUPER. Add super to the list of exceptions. What you're describing happened to me until I did that.

I don't have windowsblinds installed, is there anything else that could be causing this problem?

Try flash to video encoder at geovid. It's pity this tool costs but this is best one among progs I saw. Also geovid's service support works perfect. Guess they know almost everything!
