The GC's shoulder triggers were pretty fine in my opinion, and I can tell the PS3's triggers would be awkward for my fingers just by looking at them - Aren't they convex? That's not really too ergonomic.

Anyway, is there anything in the way of actual PSP connectivity aside from file buggery-about yet?

Smashmyps3.com is the best. The reason I love it is because of that loser who waited in line and got nothing. Priceless. Good job wasting 18 hours of your life and walking away with nothing. On second thought... if you can afford to waste 18 hours of your life, your time must be worthless to begin with.

The GC shoulder buttons always felt a bit hard to me. It wasn't too bad when you're just clicking them, but they were an absolute pain when I had to hold down L1 to read text in Metroid Prime. Left my finger nice and sore after a while. The PS3 triggers only feel a little ackward because your finger extends a bit further down, but at least it's soft on the skin.

I tried hooking my PSP up while using it in USB mode, but I couldn't get anything out of it. Inhert says otherwise though. I'm a bit busy cleaning up my room to mess around with the system some more at the moment.

Okay finally I have access to the forums again... It wasn't showing up all of yesterday and this morning for me. Here's what I was going to post right when I got home.

No drama, no assaults, no loss of first born children. Just in, console get, chatting with other preorder people that showed up to pick theirs up, hopped on to the bus, and went home. No easy task, though. Thing's bloody heavy. I'm still feelin' it in my arm. Thankfully it's safely perched on my desk now, where it sort of rules over the other electronics with a reflecty all-encompassing presence.

Bullets:

- Touch buttons are awesome, has little beeps to acknowledge that you've succeeded in getting the console's attention.
- Effortlessly hooked it up to the monitor with HDMI->DVI, and it's running sexy in 720p
- Got sound routed through my old composite cable, just unplugged it from my PS2 and into the PS3.
- Wi-fi didn't work with my house's AirPort. It couldn't establish and IP address. So I ended up getting another ethernet cable and hooked it up directly. Internet works just fine now.
- XMB interface is totally smooth. I wish it could be brought up during a game, but hopefully that might come later.
- Loaded up a bunch of websites, including my own, which streams the music in the flash player perfectly. Yay!
- Playstation Store is well layed-out and easy to use, downloaded a whole bunch of stuff from the Motorstorm demo, to an HD trailer for House of Flying Daggers.
- Speaking of which, the Motorstorm demo is fantastic. I had so much fun, and will probably continue playing it until it releases.
- Resistance and RR7 are both very solid launch titles. The former being a a totally enthralling FPS that I want to get into more later. Really excellent sound design. Music almost has a bit of a Sakimoto flavour to it, straying just enough from the Hollywood sound to catch my ear as standing out quite well. The physics and control are also fantastic. I always struggled with Halo... yet not nearly as much with this, for whatever reason.
- The latter, RR7, is actually the first racing game with real cars that's actually held my interest. I picked up drifting and nitro usage pretty fast, though I've also heard that the AI ramps up significantly... We'll see how that works out XD
- Blast Factor, one of the downloadable games, is really nice imo. Some people weren't as impressed with it, but it's a lot of fun. Contrary to previous reports, the tilt control function of washing things to one side comes in handy when trying to clear out enemies quickly. The faster you clear a cell, the more difficult the next cell is. So a lot of it is about speedy shooting/clearing. Also, the wave exposes certain enemies weak spots whereas the time-slow "bomb" exposes other ones.

so you're saying that the hdmi > dvi solution work pretty good?? because is it work I might tried that ^^

I agree with everything you said ^^ I just didn't tried RR7 but like I saw some video of it, it seem good but not for me (I don't like how the car drift like they are racing on ice >.>)

I didn't buy any game because I really wasn't sure if I would really like resistance and I'm a little short in money now XD but after playing the demo, even if I don't like all that much console fps, I find it very good XD well at first I was cursing after the 5th death in 10min of play XD but the more I played the more use I became about the control and the game mechanic and now I can really enjoy it ^^ so I order it online with a 10$ instant saving yay! XD

and soldier: I really don't know what to said about the psp, all I did was plug my psp with a usb cable and choose the usb mode in my psp and immediately all my songs, video and photo appeared in their respective category...

oh I just think about it, what firmware do you have on your psp? I always keep my psp up to date, (I don't use any emulator or other things) so maybe it need the 2.82 version to work with the ps3...

I don,t know but even with all the bad review I kind of want to try untold legend: dark kingdom XD it remind me a lot about Gauntlet: dark legacy on ps2 and I kind of liked it XD so I might try to rent it or maybe buy it. Even if it doesn't have next-gen graphic I think it could be fun enough XD anyone that have tried it can give a little review?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Yeah, HDMI->DVI works great. Totally crisp and shiny.

Like SOLDIER mentioned a few posts back though, HDMI seems to screw up PS2 games. At least FFXII. I switched to S-video to play it, and it looked okay... but still not as good as it does through S-video on my PS2. Oddness.

How ya doing, buddy?

Finally back up. I read on another forum that to fix the problem with FFXII, you have to set your resolution to 420p. I haven't actually tried this, but it makes sense.

Resistence in single player is good fun, but so far nothing that the PS2 couldn't really handle. Online Mode, however, is the real meat and potatoes of this game. It's chaotic, clever, and it has yet to lag for me.

Other than that, I haven't used the system much since yesterday, and instead have spent most of the day moping. I've been tempted to sell my PS3 on Ebay, not out of greedy profit like everyone else, but because I wanted to use the money to buy this very pricey but very sexy TV.

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LN-S40...productDetails

But after a lot of thought, I've decided not to worry about things too much and enjoy the system I have now. Yes it sucks that I have to play Resistence in 420p and not 1080i (what I wouldn't give for an update announcement) and I also hate the grayish blurs I occasionally see, but I've decided to stop letting that stuff eat away at me. The blurs may go away all on their own, and a firmware update should come eventually.

That said, I DO have the system up on Ebay, but only to see how much I can get from it. I'll only go through with the sale if the bid goes above $1,000, but I'll cancel it if I don't see the price improve in the last hour or so.

Also, there's a youtube video showing a possible NES Emulator in action.

Has anyone encountered an audio feedback problem with their PS3? I've got the 20GB version and I'm using the standard AV cables. I don't have an HDTV yet.

Anyway, I tried swapping the PS2's cables, still got the problem. Swapped inputs on the TV (from "Front" to AV1 and then AV2) and still got the feedback. I think it's a problem with the AV output on the system, but I wanna make sure.

Haven't experienced that, but I'm using audio thru either HDMI or Optical.

That said, I did run into one problem; when setting my audio to Optical, I got no sound off of Resistence. When I set it to HDMI though, I got sound off of my Home Theater, which is a bit odd. Also, the sound isn't quite as booming as it usually is for my Home Theater. I wonder what the deal is, or if this is yet another thing to fix in an update?

Another thing that's been bugging me is the supersmall text in the Internet Browser. I also don't know how to set it to Fullscreen. Tips on how to achieve either would be nice.

Also, I'd like to test the BC some more. I'm going to try God of War first, as I have a theory that PS2 games with progressive scan will receive a slight boost on the machine (as SotC did), but I'm open to suggestions on what other games you'd like me to check out for you.

I'm not sure they even make an RF adapter. I haven't seen one at my store at least. I have seen the HDMI cables, which are running a cool $80.

Speaking of accessories, has anyone picked up that Logitech "ChillStream" controller? I thought it about it, since it's $10 cheaper than the Sixaxis, but I haven't made up my mind yet.

another question with the hdmi->dvi cable

do you need a widescreen monitor to be able to play the ps3 at 720p?

because you see I have this monitor it's 19'' monitor (not widescreen) and the native resolution is 1280x1024, so will the hdmi->dvi cable solution still work?

(I think this monitor do not support hdcp, so those this apply only for blu-ray movie? or I can't play anything at all on it?)

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Cobalt seems to have confirmed that he was able to play it on his monitor, most of which aren't HDCP compliant (as of yet anyway). So you should be fine, not to mention HDCP won't be enforced until about 2010, and those studios that do use it have to label the movies with the ICT flags that prevent it from playing in HD on your display/monitor.

If you want to see a visual example of what 720p on your monitor will look like, just download a HD sample video from Apple's site at that resolution. It takes up a fair bit of the screen, but not all of it. 1280 x 720 comes in a bit smaller than your monitor's res.

Edit: Oh and hey all, and congrats to the PS3 owners here. Forums were acting strange for a good bit yesterday.

Metal, mine's a 20" widescreen, hence it can support the HD resolutions. Anything that isn't widescreen may have issues with the resolutions. I don't know for certain though.

SOLDIER, I believe fullscreen is an option when you press Triangle in the browser to check out the options. It's in there somewhere, as I made it work. Text in normal size looks fine at my res though.

Wanted to mention, played a bunch of Resistance co-op today with my friend. Total blast, really loved it. I honestly do think there are quite a bit of things that couldn't be done on a PS2 We also tried out online, and unfortunately it was unclear if there was any way to have both of us online at once. Didn't seem like it though, which is really unfortunate. So we traded off on deaths, and played a bunch of capture the flag. Great fun there.

Then explain how I can see 720p videos on this screen's resolution (1280x1024)? Your screen doesn't need to have a wides aspect ratio, it simpy need to have a native resolution higher than the HD feed, or else you'll lose picture area.

LCD monitors may see differing levels of quality when doing this, since it depends on the panel it's using as well as the scaler present and how it deals with non-native signals.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I knew the scalping would be rather sizable on eBay but this quite nuts. I wonder how many of the PS3s sold are ending up on eBay.

Anyway, due to extreme market flood the prices have dropped like a stone and now the units are completely worthless. No point in even reselling at this point, as you'd actually take a loss if you tried to create a bundle.

So anyway, now I'm tempted to keep the unit I froze my ass off for, but I'm also thinking of just flat out returning it for a refund.

ok this is the last question for the hdmi/dvi cable XD

so I don't want to pay 150$ for a cable and the cheapest one are those two (those are Canadian dollars btw)

Rocketfish 4' HDMI To DVI-D Cable (RF-G1112)

Asid Tech ASD-002 Asid Tech PlayStation 3 DVI To HDMI Cable (ASD-002)

both seem identical for me, but one seem to be specially for the ps3. now all I want to know is if one is of better quality than the other.

It all depends on whether you feel that Resistence is good enough to tide you over until more notable games come out. As I mentioned before, since this launch emulates the PS2's almost exactly, I'm certain that we'll start seeing the PS3 flex its muscle during Spring (around March), then become stellar around Summer, and then we get our first real PS3 game in the form of MGS4.

Contrary to what Sony says, next-gen does not start when they say so. It starts when Kojima says so.

Also, Blast Factor is good fun based on the short demo, and I have intentions to buy the full game if I don't end up making a huge profit on Ebay (anything less than $1k isn't worth selling).

Not sure what the technical term for it is, but the service is most definately PlayStation Network.
