Classes you wish you haven't registered for

I just registered for General Chemistry 1 and it's kicking me arse. I thought I was going to do well because I took Physiological chemistry and passed with an A. But, Gen Chem is ridiculous, I think it's the idiot professor I have for it, but I hope I can pass with a C at least, lol whee. So I regret it, I should've taken meteorology or some other science elective.

What class was hard for you that you didn't expect, and wished you didn't registered for?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Cultural Anthropology. The concept is easy at first, but they go through so much material in such a quick time, the prof is a grad student who talks to fast, its 3 multiple choice exams, and the more I study, the worse I do....

Kind of thinking Politics in this one, but there was really nothing else I could take.

Also I'm in the class right now.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

ENGE 1024 (Engineering Exploration), Seriously the worst class in the history of college. It's so much bullshit. I really would not have taken it if it were optional.

Advanced Compilers in my final year. I came very close to failing that course, though rather amusingly I've subsequently found out the only reason I passed it was because I answered a question on a topic not taught in class and got it perfectly right.

Question

English 1A: Short Fiction.

I'd love it if all we had to do was read the material, but the professor has sort of killed it for me, and his essay topics are retarded. I just can't win in his class.

If this wasn't required for Creative Writing, then there's no chance i'd've taken it in the first place.

Pascal/ C++ Programming.

I sucked so badly at these, I'm surprised I managed to pass the course. The tutor didn't help either, she was useless at explaining any of it to me. Luckily the other people on the course helped me out, and got me through the course.

English - Writing in the Professions

Its one of the most hum-drum classes I've ever taken. The professor is so vague and uninteresting that I'm surprised I didn't drop out after the first day of class.
She's one of the lowest ranked professors at my University (says ratemyprofessors.com) and even the other English instructors can't stand her.
Did I mention the community service...erm, I mean "volunteer work" she's having us do for the class?

I've had many classes that I regretted taking, but I managed to stay in them and do rather well regardless. This semester, I'm enrolled in a class called "Feminism and the Spirit." The subject is somewhat interesting, but the presentation of material doesn’t help us much.

My prof is also very spontaneous, so the class never knows what's going on. I didn’t have a choice but to take this class since my registration date for signing up this semester was very late. So my choices for classes were naturally taken. I’m a nursing major as well, so I’m more accustomed to taking lots of science classes.

I'm in calc I right now and it's hard as fuck. But I don't regret taking it. I'll be taking gen chem next semester.

I'm going to take gen chem II over the summer, and orgo and bio next year.
Out of everything, I probably will be getting my ass raped next year but oh well, I hopefully won't regret it.

I'm doing orgo and a biology (anatomy) class at the same time this semester. It's a challenge, but certainly not impossible. My chemistry professor is extremely helpful, so it cuts down on the reading I have to do at home. The anatomy class is different though. I do the studying on my own since I don't get much out of lecture.

WORLD POLITICS

Oh my god. When I registered for this class, I was like "hey, I enjoy politics! It's interesting and it's important to know what's going on in the world, and why!"

FUCK THAT.

I guess I didn't enjoy politics as much as I thought I did. This class is stupidly difficult, and the teacher, while knowledgable in the subject and excellent in her explanations, makes these insane pop-quizes and grades the essays harshly ('nono, you need to analyze your state, not summarize it' 'OK THEN TELL US WHAT YOU FUCKING WANT').

Another thing that bugs me about this class is she doesn't use Blackboard, an online 'classroom' where teachers can put up slide presentations, grades, accouncements, etc. It's not a big deal, but this class would be SO much easier if we just got access to the presentations (she hands out them out on certain days, but the font is so small....)

At this point, I'm just hoping I pass with a D-...

Oh, and Printmaking; even though I'm an art major, printmaking was definitely not my thing.

...Whew, that felt great! Ranting rocks <3

Calculus II: Integrals and differential equations

I thought I wanted to minor in math, and I thought wrong. My friend and I frustrated about how poorly the course was taught, especially since most everyone in the class was stumped more or less so after every lecture, with the prof thinking in a generic math-frame, rather than a teaching frame which made it harder to learn. I got a B+ after curve, and the week before the exam was the worst cram session in my entire life, spending every waking moment doing integrals and differential equations. Never again!

I very much regret this whole physics minor. It's becoming a waste of time. The teachers are terrible. Well, EM wasn't bad, but Quantum Mechanics this semester is just painful. It's supposed to have "engineering applications" but I'm not seeing it.

My Calculus I class is really difficult. I never took AP Calc in HS, so this is all new to me [unlike most of the kids in the class who got 4's and 5's on the AP exam] and I'm not used to a foreign professor who barely speaks english running around the room teaching at an incredibly fast pace.

I basically absorb NOTHING from the lectures. NOTHING. I just come home and do the massive amount of homework [that's graded] and get help from tutors and friends and somehow eventually understand it.

I just spent the entire day today studying for my midterm that's tomorrow, that's a quarter of our overall grade. I didn't go to my other classes, all I did today was integrals and u substitution and a bunch of bullshit that makes me want to vomit.

I just took a shower though, so it's a nice way to feel purified. I'm going to go to bed soon, so hopefully when I take the test in 7 hours it'll somehow be absorbed into my brain.

Yep, it's hard. I'm pre-med so I know shit will just get harder, but whatever. I just have to raise the bar like every day.

About orgo and bio, I mean gen orgo and gen bio. Which'll be a bitch. I want to double major though, so I don't know how I'm going to fit shit into my life. I'll have to look into that stuff.

Hahaha, it really depends what they teach in the mechanics course. You can actually do some fairly complex stuff without having any differential equation beyond simple ones where you can just separate the variables. My classical mechanics course this term is pretty much this. The second one, however, is after both "Ordinary Differential Equations" and "Partial Differential Equations", so I suppose that course will make heavy use of differential equations.

Oh, and while I don't regret taking it, I'd like to take this opportunity to say that I hate differential equations. Especially series solutions, like the Frobenius method. Which is precisely what I should be doing right now.

C++ Programming

During the lectures, the professor would often spend his time talking about slashdot and othe things that related to none of the material. Then I had weekly labs with a TA who seemed to laugh at our bad code a lot and didn't provide a lot of help. And worst of all, we had weekly projects, each one took hours more than the previous one. The professor often gave "hints" for starting, which if you followed, would often work you into a wall unsolveable with any coding we learned. The final project, I worked on all week, and spent 25 straight hours coding before the deadline and still couldn't finish. And I got 0 points on it because of their BS grading system.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Basically the majority of classes (Children's Literature, Science Fiction, Criminology, Myths) that I took for the general education program. Although they were fun courses at first, the teachers were awful. Anyway, I wasted one year not knowing what I was doing in college and why I was taking this program.

Back in my freshman year of college, I had a class required by one of the programs I was in: Science & Technology in Western Civilization. It was a social science/history class that seemed it would be cool, but it sucked incredible ass. The professors and teaching aids were horrendous, and the material was thoroughly uninteresting. That class alone caused the dropage of over 50% of the students in the program. :/

And I guess, in my field, I took a course called Semiconductor Devices and Analog Electronics, and I appreciate it now, but when I was taking it I wanted out. It was so hard. ;_;

Chemical and Biological Engineering 1124 (CBE1124), General Chem (CM1004), Biology 1(BMS1004). Those classes I absolutely wish I had never taken...... paid money, boughten the books, wasted all that time for measily failing grades. Yet, after taking so many career exploration tests, personality tests, and other tests of the like, I continue to pursue science majors rather than focusing on my artistic side as these self tests declare me to have.

'Utopias', a class about the search for utopias in human society. I took it because I thought I needed a class in that catagory for my degree, I was wrong, but I didn't learn this til after the course.

I'm retaking it because I thought I failed (the official grade was a zero when I checked online last year.) However, the teacher informed me (a little too late to pull out of the class to get a refund) that I had actually gotten a C- (The grade is now a C- in their computers). Now I'm sticking to it to get a better grade and improv my GPA (although if I had known I had a C-, I would never had taken it again.)
