It's been like that in Final Fantasy since VI. There's always some nasty, deeply hidden secret that only the INTRAWEB or a guide could alert you to.

How ya doing, buddy?

Simo, I'm exactly where you are right now and I've stopped playing, since I got class tonight. Not too sure how much more I can fit playing in, since I'm pretty tied up with stuff.

How far have some of you gone with your mob hunts? I'm with the 3rd hunt, and I can't find him thus far.
Spoiler:
It's the cactuar with the flower on its head, and it's somewhere in Estersand (yeah that helps a lot). I think you need to cross the river at the small town in the middle of the Estersand, but the dude that owns the boat is on the other side. I'm trying to find a way if there's a way to get across, but it might be too late, as I just reached the sky city just now, and it looks like I'm going on this quest for a while.

That Judge entrance was such a ripoff of Darth Vader, but I don't care. Awesome stuff.

Spoiler:
I was surprised to see Vossler as a Judge. Maybe it was common knowledge in the previews or trailers, but it wasn't something I knew about until now.

Nalbina Dungeon is where the game truly starts. I love the designs and general feel of the dungeon. Matsuno shits atmosphere (made of solid gold).

minor Basch thing:
I also like how Basch is actually fully unequipped, instead of magically having a sword or shield once you free him. And I especially love that he actually looks like someone who's spent years in a dungeon (and probably tortured ad nasuem.

Balthier continues with the awesome lines, but I hope they aren't intentionally stripping the other characters of good lines just so Balthier remains the coolest by default.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Other than Ashe, Balthier is the important character and doesn't tell his past till much later which is awsome. Unlike vaan and meaningless panelo :/
I played the game constantly at first but now I reduced my play time to hardly an hour a day if I'm lucky. And whenever I do play I feel like I'm just forcing myself now, this is the first final fantasy game to make me feel this way ~_~

I'm on my 4th hunt and the answer to that one is consult your world map. From there you can access Dalmasca and the surrounding regions so when they tell you to search "such and such" area by name you should be able find it via the map.

So for that particular hunt though...
Spoiler:
He mentions it's in that labyrinth which you can find via the world map but turns out it's actually in that area north of where you begin the hunt.

Played an hour more and seems like the said minigame is actually in the Sky Capital rather than in Rabanastre so nothing missed.

I'm about 36 hours into it now. My characters levels are in the late thirties so I guess I'm close to the finish by now. Loving it so far.

The game gets shockingly difficult. I was getting my ASS kicked in the Osmone Plains. I had to start running from all the enemies... which was unfortunate because I had about a dozen of them chasing after me.

I'm going to be taking my sweet time with this game. It took a long time to come out, so it would be silly to plow through it. There's a lot to see and do anyway, so it's not like I have to milk it.

It's not like I have anything else to do. I'm just a boring double major in college. I have plenty of free time on my hands. Well, not really but this week is light for me so FFXII is filling up my free time. Anyway, I beat Okami the first week I got with about 42hrs of work so FFXII shouldn't be far behind.

Spoiler:
At level 17+ (I think) I managed to defeat Garuda easily without using the seed. I actually defeated the Yensa-eater thing but I forgot going back to the moogle. So yeah....that Garuda is weak against one of the magicks, either aero or thunder. I casted a few rounds and it was down soon after.

Man, this game is tough. I'm currently at the Leviathan and I got my ass handed to me repeatedly in that fight with the 6 soldiers. Ouch! The more enemies in an area, the harder it is.

Since it's pretty much the first healing spell you get besides that crappy First Aid, I don't like how it takes forever just to cast Cure. Oftentimes the person dies before you even cast it.

How ya doing, buddy?

You know what I'm starting to feel? This is almost like an RPG version of GTA, which isn't necessarily good. Sorry to say this folks, but as Shenlon as mentioned

Quote:

Sometimes it just seems so big that it almost, in a way, suffers from the "overwhelming" factor to carry on. At this moment, I'm still full of steam to carry on, but it's somewhat starting to die down now. I'm still at the city in the sky, so not much has happened.

I personally need the constant mini story clips and characters talking to each other in the scenes for some motivation. I'm only shy of 15 hours into the game, but perhaps it's also other factors and stresses in my life that are detracting.

Still, this is a good game with good production values, no argument there.

Also, Final Fantasy versions of "Airports" or Aerodomes, look kinda funny. RIDE THE SHOOPUF, no wai~.

Stock up on potions and use them instead. When hi-potions become abundant switch to them. Cura isn't too far off and that heals all of your party members at once. Use a combination of potions and cure all spells only when hp is below 40% or critical. I did and didn't have any trouble at the start of the game until I got to the demon walls.

Well, I'm 36 hours in and my attention hasn't wavered once. The story is gripping and the characters interesting. There are plenty of cutscenes throughout and fun side quests to undertake. Yeah, it's a huge world but not nearly as big an mmorpg or some of the other FFs.

Hee hee thanks Deni ^__^.

Yeah the Aerodomes IMMEDIATELY brought back memories of riding ze shoopuf, that was actually fun. I would like to try next time the public transportation where you can shop and stuff, or sleep, which I hear are two seperate lines. Good to hear it's still strong at 30 hours plus, Foshi .

Solid game so far, but IMO the dungeons are getting repetitive. It sorta reminds me of the Dark Cloud is with these dungeons.

Oh god don't remind me of Dark Cloud ;___;, especially the first one. Those were just a total EYESORE. So far, VP2 wins for best dungeon layout and aesthetic qualities (<3 Valhalla), since the 2D side scroller screen not only kept the tradition of the first game, but helped to reduce strain on the system, thus allowing more texturing for the environments. So far most of the environments in FFXII seem pretty good (the market square in Rabanastre) to somewhat dull, like the Westersand, which is to be expected since it's sandy desert and all.

I think the worst dungeons I've seen in an RPG is from Star Ocean 3. I hated every dungeon in the game. I didn't like being stuck in underground after underground while escaping from the dungeon 'cause I'd rather be above ground, and when I did get above ground, I was stuck in a crappy desert. I HATE deserts in RPGs. They're always so boring to look at.

I think everyone agrees that FFXII definitely has top-notch production values. The story hasn't collapsed on me so far as well. I can live with a less than stellar story if the game itself is fun.

P.S. I take it there's no Bahamut in this game? :(

Only real problem I've had so far is back tracking through some areas to get to new places.

No, there is no Bahamut, but Ultima and Omega are back. Problem is I need to be super high ass level to beat them. Oh, and there's a final super esper that I need to find. So, much left to do. I'm thinking about buying the 380 page strategy guide to see how much is left for me to tackle.

Not as an Esper, no. I dunno how spoilery the following is, so I'll put it in spoiler tags anyways.

Spoiler:
Bahamut is an airship in the game.

You must be much further than I am, Foshi, because I haven't had to do any backtracking yet.

Sucks there's no Bahamut. I'd have loved to see what he'd look like.

FFVIII still holds a special place in my heart, despite how cool FFXII looks. It's one of the main reasons why I'm no longer a furry today. It was the very first time that I fell in love (no, I don't mean love love) with a character that wasn't some sort of animal, and he's my favourite VG character ever too. The game means a lot to me.

Edit: @soulsteelgray: Oh, I take it Bahamut is an airship then? I noticed that several airships are named after classic summons in the guide. Does it look as cool as the dragon himself? I didn't take a look at your spoilers.
