Doesn't matter when you ordered, it seems like EB/GS are trying to get the shipments out ASAP due to demand as they mentioned. You might get it tomorrow as it's just another postal day. One member on GAF who received their copy even had 2nd day shipping and it still arrived today so there's a very good chance you'll receive it either tomorrow or Monday.

Keep us posted.

I'm actually a little worried about my in-store preorder after some information from an ex-GameStop employee who let out some info on preorders and their policies...

Saturday's another shipping day? I was able to preorder it because it a treat from the old man, so he went all out and got Overnight shipping. IIRC, a few friends of mine were able to get a good amount of car detailing equipment (claybar, for example) and went to work.

Hopefully it gets here soon so I can let you guys know. I don't have a camera though. =/

Yep it is which is why you may have it tomorrow fingers crossed.

Just that GameStop prefers to make money from "walk-ins" rather than holding reservations because their argument is that there's a certain percentage of people who don't pick up their copy on release date and another percentage that don't pick it up at all. That way these "reserved" copies could be sold to walk-ins, or basically those without a preorder/reservation, as more copies arrive the next day and when customers do come to pick up their reserved copy they're none the wiser.

So basically if you've got an in-store preorder then it's best to pick it up ASAP or you may lose out altogether.

I remember going in my EB Games and actually confirming that they still have my preorder placed way back on June 14th of this year - this was about a month ago. So, at least that gave me some piece of mind. Now for the strategy guide!

Well Gamestop's policy says they are suppose to hold it for at least two days though. Unfortunately I won't be able to get my hands on it till the afternoon of he release date.

Wow, I can see their reasoning for it (trying to get as many sold as possible), but it does screw over those who preordered if a lot of walk-ins happen that day.

With online orders shipping already, why can't in-store reservers pick up their game?

I was just in Gamestop today too--to trade in my Halo 2 CE and Silent Hill 4 for this game--and the clerk didn't say anything about picking it up early.

Blue discs are PS2 CD-ROMS, so no... It definitely is not. They only hold about 700MB of data.

Not unless you expect there to be a considerable turn out of people walking in to buy the game, and the store's inclination towards just selling them preordered copies then and there.

It'll be fine, that much is certain.

At Gamestop/EBGames? No, they hold your reserve for 48 hours. I'm planning to pick mine up on Wednesday since I have no time to pick it up on Tuesday. This and Children of Mana.

Either way, they have to respect your reserve. Even if they give away your copy, you're still in tact for the next shipment and whatever you paid for, so there's really nothing to worry about. On top of that, they'll probably have craploads of copies. I remember looking at my Gamestop when Kingdom Hearts II came out. At least three rows filled the top counter area completely filled with that game alone.

So I suppose I should check with my GS tommorow then, just in case. For the record, I was all set up to try the game today, but the folks came in literally at the last second, and I ended up painting the rest of my room instead. What is this, Tom Sawyer?

My copy should be pretty safe I mean I've only been in there twice and I've held my copy so it's no biggie really.

Hot on 1UP's review comes IGN's and....
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/741/741991p1.html
Quote:
10 Presentation
Lightning quick load times, one of the best storylines for any genre on any system for the entire year, and a gigantic fully-realized world is yours right out of the box.
10 Graphics
A PS2 technical accomplishment in every sense. Slowdown is a non-factor, model detail is incredible, facial and skeletal animation is stellar, and the artistic design kicks ass.
9.0 Sound
English and Scottish voice actors play out the storyline perfectly and the sound effects are varied and first-rate. Musically, FF12 isn't the best in the series, but is still extremely strong.
9.0 Gameplay
The new gambit system, full-camera control, license board upgrades, and enemy AI make for a Final Fantasy like no other. Best of all, it's fun AND challenging.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
Expect 40-100 hours of gameplay depending on your grinding preferences. Luckily, there are plenty of mini-games and hidden goodies to uncover along the way.
9.5
Incredible OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)
So what is it now....3 days?

I went ahead and updated the very first post in this thread with review scores and quotes along with refreshing alot of the character bios and information etc.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Man the IGN Review is so stupid, the closing comments really pisses me off:

Closing Comments

Final Fantasy XII is a fantastic RPG. It blows all of its PS2 competition this year right out of the water and is among the all time elite role-players ever made for the system. Kingdom Hearts, Devil Summoner, Xenosaga III, Tales of the Abyss... none of them are on the same level as Square Enix's bold and riveting move in a new direction. Whether you're a fan of the genre or not, FF12 most certainly deserves a special spot on your PS2 game shelf... put it in the front.

Pleaaase i have more fun playing Tales of the Abyss which has a kickass story, better character dev., etc etc....it's things like this where i question ign's credibility...aargh tfoe (spits*)

and ohyeah

9.0 Gameplay
The new gambit system, full-camera control, license board upgrades, and enemy AI make for a Final Fantasy like no other. Best of all, it's fun AND challenging.

Fun?...no...challenging? Def Not...spits again*

Well, people are entitled to their opinions. It isn't hard to see why someone might prefer it over a game like Abyss, given Abyss is very anime inspired, has horrifying load times and one of the worst world maps ever to grace a console RPG. It has plenty of flaws, same as most any game.

'Course, despite that little bit of trashing, Abyss is probably my favorite RPG of the year. Been playing around in FF12, and I like it just fine but I can already tell I am not going to like these characters even half as much as the cast of TotA.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I called mine today, but they still aren't budging. Monday night at midnight is the earliest they'll allow, no exemptions.

I almost had the chance to play it earlier today, but my sister was taking a nap after her 5am run-a-thon, so I decided not to. Maybe it's a sign to wait until the official release, but those guys are changing the carpets that day, so I just don't know what'll happen.

Without spoiling it obviously was it akin to FFVII where it was open ended and left you with a bad taste or just bad in general where it was cliche and felt rushed?

You're kidding right? People were complaining way back when they discovered the battle system wasn't turn based or if it wasn't that it was how the art design sucked and so on and so forth.

To each their own I guess. It's good to see more reviews coming out with the game at an average of 91.7% so far on GameRankings and with each review I get more pumped.

Hell, you can even go to your EB and ask if they could hold the copy longer for you. I went with a friend to my local Gamestop, he wanted to enquire about the same thing you were asking. He wouldn't be able to pick up Children of Mana for another two weeks, so the clerk put a note on the system saying they would hold his copy for two weeks, so he's guaranteed a copy of the game when he's able to get it.

Why wouldn't he? The only reason this is getting high scores cause its FF12,all of them seem to be bend on either getting all fanbiy like excited and praising it like its perfect cause it took this long to get out that they take anything. And some reviews even try to defend it really badly.

Quote:
Granted, Final Fantasy XII may not seem like a game deserving of that level of prestige in its beginning -- it starts slow (slower than your typical RPG) and can take upwards of three to six hours to get going. In this day and age of videogames hitting the ground running the moment you press start, asking users for an extra layer of patience can certainly prove trying. Nevertheless, like most great things worth experiencing, big effort means big rewards.
They're defending a game play system that takes hours to actually start getting fun? That is a huge game design flaw and they defend it cause, well its FF12 it has to be good right?

I mean maybe it is a each to their own thing, but I still find it hard to believe that the one FF the reviews all hail as perfection has flaws in battles (gambits plays by itself), Licence board (Need gil and LP to get cure along with the right to use equipment?),mob hunts (as if running around to find it and kill wasn't bad enough, I have to run and find the guy who wants it dead to start the hunt?) and story? ( Poor character developmend along with uninteresting plot, and don't get me started on Basch's "betrayal" twist, its a soap opera cliche)

Basch spoiler:
Spoiler:
"My evil twin did it! Not me! I was framed!

FF12 may be a great game to some, and mediocre for others, or even bad, but is it perfection and does it deserve such high scores? Not really, more like reviews either jumping the bandwagon, waited so long that they take whatever they can get, bribed, or just plain fanboys.

If people love this game then great, I just think that it doesn't derserve the praise as being the game of the year or perfection or some other review over glorification.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
