Well, they're saying that it can't physically play all its own previous-gen games. Which is true, since there's no cartrage slots or a promise of 100% representation on Virtual Console. Technicalities I'm thinking it's mainly a jab at the 360 though.

How ya doing, buddy?

Wait so they're calling the new controller SIXAXIS? For some reason I started humming the Bots Master theme song and replacing BOTS MASTER with SIXAXIS. Not sure why, but it doesn't work too well. This cartoon will never take off!

Hmm, this will interest quite a few folks here. Apparently the Linux deal isn't actually vaporware, since Yellow Dog Linux is coming out for the machine too.

Terra Soft will initially launch YDL v5.0 with support for the Sony PS3. By the close of 2006, support for the former Apple PowerPC product line will be made available, with intent to provide both DVD and CD install images via YDL.net Enhanced and the public mirrors, while the shipping product will be available on DVD only.

And since it seems the first thing many thought of when this announcement broke was viruses/hacking for PS3s, check this out. Some serious set of defenses, all the way down to metal it seems.

Huh. So now the only difference between the price tags is internal WiFi and a flash card reader. Oh, and a more shiny system. Glad I pre-ordered the $500 version.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

You should have taken a kendo stick with you to enforce your position. I took a light up lightsaber thinking that it would work, but it just wasn't the same. As much as I want to camp out to get a PS3 at launch I don't think it's going to be realistic for me. Also with Gears of War (the reason why I bought the stupid 360 to begin with) and the Wii coming out around the same time, I think that they should keep me busy for a couple of weeks to a month when I'll be able to get a PS3.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

That sounds pretty accurate to me. That magic wand that sprinkles glitter dust as you move it about, which they call a controller, doesn't scream nextgen to me. The point is however, don't quote on me this, but if I understand correctly the PS3 will physically read PlayStation and PS2 media and then offers a Virtual Console type of thing on the side to make older games available to players interested in them.

Whereas Wii's backwards compatibility is the equivalent of: "GIVE US YOUR MONEY."

Correct. Basically, they seem to be aiming for backwards compatibility as well as making older titles available for download in a Virtual Console of sorts. That would explain the removable/upgradeable hard drives and their sizes.

The question is, what titles will they have access to? I'm guessing Playstation-family titles, but what else? Genesis? Unless someone fiddles with Linux, and cooks up an emulator, we won't be seeing the vast SNES library available for a while, if ever.

It's been made apparent in recent news that PSP games are going to be part of the downloadable "virtual console" stuff on PS3's network. If they're playable on the PS3 (as opposed to having to download them onto a physical PSP), I will be extremely happy. Because I really have no desire to buy one... yet I want to play Lumines and Gunpey like what.

That was the same idea I had, being able to play PSP games on the system. Although if Sony is smart, they'll require you to hook up the PSP and UMD to the PS3 via USB to do so. Still, with the ability to play PS1, PS2 and PS3 games along with Blu-ray movies, PSP games, and a comprehensive OS, suddenly those $500-$600 feel pretty justified.

So what time this Thursday does the gamer's day event start?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Anyone know the transfer rate for UMDs and that of USB 2.0? If the latter is higher, couldn't you simply buy the game in data form, download it to your PS3's HDD, hookup your PSP and play it right off the machine?

If you had a soft modded PSP you could. As of right now the PSP does not allow you to play games off of anything other then a UMD disc. Therefore if it were soft moded, or if Sony came out with executable versions of the games there would be no way to play them from another source other then the UMD.

well I have one ps3 reserve for me ^^ actually I'm the 6th on the list. the only thing that I fear could happen, is that they said that they are supposed to receive 8 consoles but maybe they will have less than that... so if there's only 5 console...I'm not getting one >.> I just hope they will get at least 6, and I pre-order the 60gb one.

they said that they will call me 2 week before the release date to comfirm how many ps3 they will get and they better be because i have a 200$can deposit for that >.>

Yeah good job man. Did you pre-order any games with your system? Or you just plan'n on picking up a couple on launch day? And if so what ones are you going to get/pre-ordered?

I didn't pre-order any games because I'm still not sure what to take...(and I still not sure what are the launch titles XD)

Resistance look good but I just can't stand any fps on console, I need a mouse and a keyboard to play those games XD, and now that i heard that the game is really hard, I'm sure it's not for me...

I'll probably decide at the launch date when I'll go pick up my ps3, but for now it will probably ridge racer 7 and maybe Resistance I'll decide on the spot and if I have enough money XD

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Just throwing this out there but as far as I'm aware the PS3 has full mouse & keyboard support. I know that that's how I'll be going for both resistance and Unreal Tournament 2007.

Resistance doesn't support mouse and keyboard because of the online play. They said that it wouldn't be fair for someone to fight in multiplayer against others that have mouse and keyboard and others that use the gamepad only...so they took out that feature... that's why i change my mind about getting this game...

Heh well congrats on securing a PS3, Inhert. I wouldn't worry about not getting one though especially after putting down $200CAD.

I did make sure though that the local video store is getting PS3 titles in for rental. That way when I do eventually get a PS3 it's good to know a store 10 minutes down the road will have titles available for rent.

That looks a lot thinner than a standard hard drive. I thought the PS3 used the standard brand like the PS2. This could pose a problem if those $20 Maxtor HDs don't end up working.

EDIT: Also, yay on hi-res minigames. Hopefully they don't cost much to download.
