Remembering Katrina

Even though I know that I am about a month late, I would still like to take the time to remember those that were lost, hurt, or even upset by Hurricane Katrina. So in order to move this thread along, what was your Katrina Experiences like? or Can you imagine yourself as a hurricane victim?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I don't think I would be able to imagine myself being a hurricane victim. Nor do I want to think that it wasn't really that bad. Watching a lot of the video and hearing some of the stories made me realize how terrible hurricanes can be.

Even after over a year, they are still cleaning up bodies....

There's nowhere I can't reach.

It's sad, and still really frustrating that they didn't take better measures to help get more people out of the area before the hurricane hit.

I remember something on the news last month or so discussing what was becoming of the money that was donated to Katrina victims. That was disappointing too...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

The most amazing and disturbing site was when all those people were standing outside the football stadium looking for help... Waving their arms and everything for any help they can get.

I don't think I could imagine the smell inside that building.

I heard about the money too.... most of it seemed like it was wasted away...

I read something in the local newspaper here about how companies were more interested in the financial business recovery and gain, instead of helping people who were affected by it.

I really don't understand why the levees were not updated and reinforced to help stop some of the storm surges. I suppose because Louisiana rarely gets hit by major hurricanes, or at least a direct hit, they still do occur.

Seriously though, the whole relief effort and response was really fumbled. A damn shame too, since this could easily happen to any coastal city.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Yeah, I live in Hawaii. We've very nearly been hit a couple times, and have had direct hits as well. In 1992 a HUGE hurricane hit the island of Kauai. It's still having trouble recovering.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I remember talking to a few people in the grocery store who were staying with family here in South Carolina while things were being straightened out in New Orleans.

They said they were probably gonna live here after all was said and done.

Other then that experience, I only knew what was going on based on what the news said about the whole situation.

How ya doing, buddy?

Over here, people lived in the old Charlotte Stadium. This was to help those who were left homeless. What I think was absolutely horrible though that they kicked the others outta the hotels around New Orleans because of that. I also have relatives in Florida that barely survive during the Hurricanes that it it due to the fact that she lives in a trailer park.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I can't possibly imagine what it would be like to get hit by a hurricane. I live in Ottawa and while we've had a couple small tornadoes scattered across Ontario over the past 50 years, the only terrible thing to come our way, weather wise, was the ice storm almost ten years ago. That was really different though.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

my grandparents live in new orleans. luckily they live in the one place that survived and is pretty much how it was before the hurricane. unfortunately most of the awsome see food resteraunts are probably gone.. that place had the best food on earth.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
