Let's Dance!

It was either here or the general forum, but in the end I think this is more of a quiet place issue. Do you dance? I mean, socially. At clubs, a bar, weddings, prom, etc.

Me, I`ve now offically danced twice in my life. Saturday was one of my niece`s birthday and we went to a club. I went through about 11 bottles of beer in a couple of hours. Then I noticed this beautiful girl. Blond. I never have liked blonds but this girl was beautiful. Young too, 19, and a nurse. I wanted to ask her to dance but I had never danced before. So, in my logic based DRUNK FUCKING MIND I ask another of my nieces to dance. A five minute lesson. I quickly make a fool of myself but no one on the dance floor seemed to notice. Being drunk, I think I`ve learned everything necessary. So then... I sit down and wonder how the hell to approach this girl and ask her to dance. Every once in a while we`d make eyecontact but I didn`t FOLLOW THROUGH. YOU DRUNKEN FEDORA WEARING FOOL!

FInally my sister grabs me, points at the girl (Jennifer) until she catches her attention, and tells her to dance with me. She smiles and we dance. I talk to her the whole time, even mentioning my kids like a stupid bastard, but she doesn`t seem to mind. Of course, before all this, I had to explain that in the States I never danced.

There`s something odd but pleasing about holding and dancing with a person you just met. But I have to say I wish I had tried it sooner. Not because I like dancing (I hate the whole concept of it), but because it`s a great icebreaker and a good way to meet new people. How about you chums?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I've only had maybe one solid dance partner my entire life. Back at all the high school functions me and this girl, whom I took to all the ones I attended, would dance like crazy. I'm not one for any flashy moves but I can follow the beat just fine. Course all our dancing would consist of dry humping and the like.

I like dancing. It takes the whole experience dance/club/whatever scene to another level. Makes concerts and lives much more enjoyable if the music is able to take you away from the reserved demeanor of everyday life.

I don't dance, at least not publicly. I'll tap my feet and sort of move to music occasionally on my own, but even at supposed dances I don't dance. I'm generally a private person. Dancing near or in a crowd just doesn't appeal to me.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I like to dance.

I used to be a bit of a wall flower when I was much younger. I'm still not going to be the first one jumping out onto the dancefloor, but once I do start dancing it's hard to get me to stop. Now, I literally must drag girls onto the dance, when years ago it was the exact opposite.

Dancing in clubs definitely heightens the whole experience, even if all anyone does is dry hump.

Put on your red shoes and dance the blues.

The closest I've ever come to anything even remotely resembling dancing is playing DDR.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I don't dance, I just can't do it. I look and feel like a moron when I do. I went to the first few dances in grade 9. I tried to dance, but as the dance progressed I felt progressively more and more stupid. Not only that, but the music just sucks and most of the 'dancing', as far as I could see, was more like dry humping and honestly, if I wanted to do that I wouldn't be on the dance floor.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I really hate dances. The first one I went to was a formal and only because Student Council gets in free. It was fun and all, but I would never take the initiative by wanting to dance actively. I went to 3 more dances the next year (free, of course) and several debuts (filipino debutante balls).

Apart from that, I'm way too self-conscious. The clincher was one time when a couple of guys pointed directly at me and looked like they were laughing. My girl friends would always try to drag me on to the dance floor, and I would never go on without the exchange of: "oh no, you go dance, I'll go later/I'm fine", even though I knew it was inevitable to dance being at that kind of event.

I hate dancing, and yet, I'll be forced to go to another debut next Saturday ;_;

I have the same problem all of you do. But really, if you want to get cheap feels in, meet new people, etc, try the OO remedy:

Get fucking wasted. Then go find someone to dance with. Do this for several weekends. As you get used to it, slowly lower the amount of alcohol it takes for you to get your nerve up until you can do it without drinking. If you wind up an alcoholic in the process, you can think of me in AA.

I love to dance, and I mean long dance sessions. Weddings, bars, anywhere I could. I was on the dance floor.

Unfortunately, I fell a few years ago and hurt my back. So any dancing after 5 minutes kills me. Hell, walking sometimes hurts me.

But, that doesn't mean the foot doesn't tap from time to time.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

The first time I danced was at my sister's wedding just over two years ago.

In fact, my Ex-girlfriend was there, and when we were together she loved to dance, and I didn't. I invited her to the wedding, (just for the heck of it) and she brought her boyfriend. I danced all night! She was so blown away, that she got upset by the fact I was dancing.

The only other time I have danced is when under the influence.... Yep, when it doesn't matter, I dance....

I don't dance, well won't dance is more accurate. I just felt uncomfortable the few times that I have danced, it felt as if everyone in the room was watching me and laughing.

The entire key to dancing is to enjoy it. If you honestly don't care how you look doing it, you will do it well. If you absolutely can not let go of the fear that people are pointing and laughing, it will show in your body language and you'll look retarded. Seriously, the best dancers are the people who don't give a crap what anyone thinks. CONFIDENCE, guys. That's the key to everything.

Dancing is awesome.

How ya doing, buddy?

I only dance when I have Mr. Daniels by my side. And we both have to be severely intoxicated. Wait....he already is.

Normally I am very self conscious about dancing but recently I have been able to dance with confidence (like AliceNWondrland said) and just enjoy it. This really works because the less you think about it the better, it should be quite a natural thing.

I think that the more you think about it and worry, the more awkward you will look.

I used to go to this Un-official club in this big warehouse (wish I was invited there more often!) The music is right and the atmosphere is young and privelaged. Normally at this place some DJs will be operating a non-stop mix of Trance/Dance/DNB stuff, with addon instrumentalists every now and then. That's what the place is about really, for dancing at least. But then they have a full up band play every now and then, too. Tons of kids 16-26 drinking, smoking pot cigarettes and doing various drugs.

For me, if the music is right I won't be afraid to dance. And I absolutely love it when I get into it, it's really it's own escape. Other good places for me to dance are concerts. Seriously, if you want to dance and not be ashamed, find a concert of one of your favorite groups and the music will have more control over your self-conscious, in that setting at least.

There's a couple things that help with dancing.

1. Learn how to dance. Not like complex ballroom dancing - social dance. At the very least, learn the night club two-step. If all the rest of it is bump and grind, yeah, either be wasted, or dry-hump the other person. Or both. Whatever.

2. Yeah... that's about it.

I've done the usual dances in school (sock-hops, proms, etc). I'm not really into clubbing all that much, so I tend to "dance" (which is more like spazzing out and/or having a seizure) in the privacy of my own home. If there's really catchy music or I have a song stuck in my head, I have been known to dance at work (and have people make fun of me but I just laugh and do it anyway; it makes me happy ). I'll admit that dancing with other people (i.e. friends) is a lot of fun and I'd like to do it more often, but my a lot of my friends are also self-conscious about their dancing and don't feel the need to look like a spaz in public.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
Save your tears for the day
When our pain is far behind
On your feet, come with me
We are soldiers stand or die
Save your fears, take your place
Save them for the judgement day
Fast and free, follow me
Time to make the sacrifice
We rise or fall
