Fantastic trailer. I'm quite impressed with all of the new controls and features. Thanks greatly for posting that site up. The animations look phenomonal, but the soldiers look a little silly when walking quickly. Nice little addative at the end too. No idea what that's supposed to convey...

Anyone else hear of an idea for using the motion sensitive controller as a device used to snap the neck of your enemy? Sounds ridiculous! I do hope they go through with that.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
Love it.

Aw man that trailer was awesome! Now I really want a PS3.

The new combat system is really neat too, the concept of lying on your back to shoot is nifty (why didn't they do this sooner?) and rolling while in a crawling position is a nice touch. Heh, there also appears to be a new method of crawling, looked like he was humping the ground (during the part where he crawling in the middle of all the cross firing between two forces, perhaps this is where they'll use the motion sensitive aspect of the controller).

Also cool how we can actually use the knife with 2 handed guns now. The octacamo looks like it adjusts on the fly. And the oil drum, haha, great!

As for the new music, it's pretty good, but nothing really to rave about. Though, definitely glad to find out that HGW was back, wouldn't be an MGS soundtrack without him (or Hibino for that matter).

Nice little gags at the end, and that young Snake, that has got to be more than a tease! It just wouldn't be fair, considering that we don't even get to play as Raiden after witnessing how cool he was in the last trailer.

Ohh, sounds like a good idea, I hope they do go through with that as well.

EDIT:
Anyone else noticed that the octocam effects his face as well? Specifically pointing at the first scene, where Snake was pretending to be a corpse, gets up and switches off the Octocam. Pretty interesting...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I never thought of the end to be just a nod for those fans wanting the old Snake. If this does end up being part of MGS canon, I think that this means Snake does shoot himself, seeing as "Legends must die" to make way for a new legend, that being a clone of him, this younger one. The thing is, with his deteriorating state, would that affect the cloning process. Also, I don't follow the MGS mythos too closely, so is there anything said already that would prevent a clone being born from Snake's DNA with his being a clone himself? Assuming this is all correct, when do you think the clone was created in the MGS timeline?

I was also thinking that they'd line a new clone up. The Infant Terrible cloning program must have had some glitches and such they'd be able to fix by now. I wouldn't be surprised at all if that's a "new" Snake in the end.

Of course, seeing as Kojima is involved, it's probably a mask, the Octocam or a joke. Or all of the above.

But absolutely amazing trailer. Love it to small bits!

Why the hell are people on gamefaqs bashing this and saying the gameplay gfx look WAY worse then the E3 trailer?
E3: http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/714/7...g_3683346.html

TGS gameplay: http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/714/7...g_3936528.html
are they fucking blind? I mean they must be watching a crappy version of the new trailer and basing it off that, but if you like at the HQ pics of both TGS and E3 the gameplay looks just as good as the cutscenes.

On second viewing, Young Snake looks even younger than he did in MGS. My guess is that he's as young as he was in the first MG (Metal Gear).

Can we expect a new generation of MG? Is Hideo Kojima stepping out of the director's chair after this, or is he going to be threatened to stay in it again?

I just watched the trailer; it's incredible. Most people over at GameFAQs are immature tikes so just ignore their ignorant comments; the graphics maintain their high standards.

Now I finally do not doubt Kojima's vision. I wasn't sure how SE would work, but it did. And now the 'stealth' in MGS4 has been revealed and it looks highly cerebral and suitably tense. I love how you can roll onto your back and target enemies from that position. The 'barrel roll' was a good laugh too.

As for the end showing a youthful character... o.O Wow! I guess looks can be deceiving eh? Hmm... Definitely the game that will weigh heavily on whether I get a PS3 sooner rather than later.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

The graphics have changed. How? The game has become clearer... Playable. Before, in the earliest of trailers, the contrast is set ridiculously high, and everything looks green or yellow. Now it seems, that the environments look to be realistic in a sense of clarity and playability. I could honestly think that the high contrast look of the earlier trailers would get boring quickly. But I did notice a slight absense of HDR. Then again, the game isn't due out until this time next year.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

No, later. Kojima clarified that the earliest was Late 2007. And the last time they showed up for the holiday season their sales were pathetic.

I'm sure they've learned that much.

A high res image, thanks to Ruliweb.

http://ruliweb.dreamwiz.com/data/rul....htm?num=14980

Double Post:
Hmm also an article on MGS4's stage at TGS.

Hideo was commentating on the trailers as they showed them. He indicates that the first trailer (TGS 2005) was meant to introduce the game's setting and the second trailer (E3 2006) was meant to introduce the game's themes.

He also states that the hiding aspect of the game has been changed so that you have blend with environment, rather than hide in an object (eg. cardboard box, locker).

Kojima also says that the game will feature real people. That they created 3D models of people through 3D capturing, which he demonstrates with the MC maybe Kojima and staff will be making easter egg appearances in the game. This feature will probably more focused for the online aspects, perhaps allowing gamers to scan their face via Eye Toy.

HGW mentions that the use of the acoustic guitar was a sort of set theme for Snake being on his last legs.

Also, apparently MGS4's opening sequence will be more interactive than MGS3 (at least that's what I'm gathering from the info).

Quote:
TGS 2006: Metal Gear 4 Stage
Kojima shares new details on 2007's biggest PS3 game.

by Anoop Gantayat
September 22, 2006 - The biggest thing at TGS was, expectedly, Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer. Thankfully, Konami, perhaps realizing that shaky-cam versions of the trailer would be leaked in a matter of seconds anyway, decided to give us a direct feed version of it, which we made available for download in record time.

After a short download, you were basically able to experience MGS4 as we did today (minus the 200 inch screen from the Sony theater, of course). What you weren't able to experience, though, was Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4 theater presentation. Konami brought out Hideo Kojima and crew for the 2006 TGS Live Stage. In addition to giving us a commentary-filled look at the E3 MGS4 trailer, the presentation was filled with new insights and revelations on what's sure to be 2007's biggest PS3 title.

The stage show began with an opening filled with the typical Kojima Productions production values. Set against MGS4 music, text like "New Experience at TGS," "New Experience for Gamers," "New Experience with Special Guests" and "New Experience From... Kojima Productions" lead us into an appearance by the guests of honors, producer/director/writer Hideo Kojima and director/writer Shuyo Murata.

Interviews with Kojima tends to be filled with jokes -- you'd be laughing if you had an apartment in the Roppongi Hills high-rises. The father of Metal Gear started things off with a background check on Murata. We were given Murata's stats and list of titles, accompanied by his wedding picture taken in Hawaii.

Kojima talks Metal Gear Solid 4 at TGS

Things switched to MGS4 after this. Kojima first had last year's Tokyo Game Show trailer play on the giant monitor behind him. The sound was cut-off so that he and Murata could give their analysis. Most of what was discussed today was already revealed at the original trailer's release. The point of this first trailer, Kojima commented, was to show players the setting for the game. The trailer also revealed that we'd be controlling old Snake and introduced us to the new Otacon, who appears in battle indirectly through the Metal Gear Mark II robot.

Next, the background footage switched to the trailer from E3, with the sound again cut off so that the two could continue providing analysis. This trailer introduced some of the themes that would go into the game, in particular the PMCs, noted Kojima.

Prior to moving on to the new TGS trailer, Kojima went into an explanation about the new Octocam camouflage. To explain the system, Kojima showed the audience picture of a room, then asked the MC where she'd hide if she were playing hide and go seek. The MC selected first a closet, then under the bed. Kojima pointed out that these could be quickly discovered by anyone.

Moving the analogy to Metal Gear Solid 4, in previous Metal Gear Solid games, Solid Snake used the MC's methods of hiding, hiding in boxes or in lockers. In MGS4, the hiding mechanics now have players blend into the background rather than hiding in objects. Noting that this is how a chameleon blends into its backgrounds, Kojima pointed out that an even better example of this form of camouflage exists in nature: the octopus. Hence the name for the new system.

Yes, Kojima brought with him sample footage of a real octopus to prove that it changes color.

Murata made mention of the technical hurdles involved in this form of camouflage system. That sort of texturing requires the power of the PS3, he noted.

The dialogue switched to the new TGS trailer. As we noted in a preview from earlier in the week, the trailer was made by editing together clips from someone's actual gameplay session. The only difference from the real gameplay experience is that cinematic camera angles are used in the trailer.

Following a showing of the trailer, Kojima revealed that he and his team have done a lot of research for the development of the game. They went through military training and traveled to different parts of the world. Kojima shared pictures taken in the Middle East which closely resemble the setting for the trailers.

Then, Kojima brought out his first surprise for the day. He revealed that Metal Gear Solid 4 will feature real people. That is, the game will have 3D models created from real people through 3D capturing. The first example provided was of the MC, whose likeness will appear in the game. Kojima showed the process of converting the MC' face into 3D data, and the resulting model. This model looked close to the real MC, and Kojima stressed that there was a lot of hand-work to be done before it could be considered final.

Kojima wouldn't go so far as to reveal why the game will use real people. Regarding the MC, Kojima said that she's just one member of a group. He also said she'd be Japan's representative in that group.

We'll understand, at the game's release, the need to use real people, Kojima explained. But if you want to hear our current theory on the matter, here it is. Konami has said that Metal Gear Solid 4 will have online elements. The PS3 is going to have a high definition Eye Toy camera. Perhaps Kojima is planning on letting players capture their faces and put them onto characters for the online mode of play.

It's just a theory, so don't send hate mail if we're wrong.

Moving on, the stage switched to a discussion of music, with a discussion of composer Harry Gregson-Williams' role. Kojima appeared thankful that despite the composer's busy schedule, they were able to get him to compose for the game.

Gregson-Williams appeared via a video message in which he mentioned that between work on parts 3 and 4 of the MGS series, he worked on over 40 films! "I feel very fortunate to be doing Metal Gear Solid 4," said the composer, "because it seems to be a combination of everything we've been doing with the previous games. Kojima was here recently, and he seemed to be bouncing up and down on the couch, which I hope means he likes the music. This is only a start -- it's safe to say that we have a long way to go with the music, but it's fair to say we've made a good start.

"Being a film compser, I'm used to watching a picture and getting my inspiration from there. But with MGS4, I had to depend a lot on what Kojima told me he wanted. One theme he told me is that Snake is on his last legs. Acoustic guitar was his idea, and I kind of liked it, so we went with that.

"He showed me some of the images, and I was very impressed. He's almost making a film."

Next, the dialogue changed to another one of the game's Hollywood connections -- the logo. The game's logo was made by a Logan, a group of artists that has worked on recent Madonna and U2 videos. Taking the stage, the logo designer revealed that Kojima was hoping for a classic look for the logo, something that would remind players of something like Godfather. But at the same time, he wanted a modern logo.

Logan will also be designing the Metal Gear Solid 4 opening, Kojima revealed to close off the stage. The opening will have even more impact than the opening from part 3. It will be highly unusual for a videogame opening and will have game-like elements, said the logo designer.

We'll have to wait until the game's release date to find out specifics on the opening. But the wait won't be too long. While Kojima said in recent interviews that over a year of development still remains on MGS4, the producer confirmed today that Konami is still targeting a 2007 release.

I am big MGS fan, even i started the thread but trying to be impartial here, the graphics did get a hit.

TGS'05 trailer was way better, just look at the background textures.Infact i am dispointed with the stiff animations, the framerate is also not smooth, which will get fixed i am sure.
The overall texture, design, space and environemnt gives PC game feeling, like Battlefield.

The music was great in trailer and the last part too.The Octocamo scene mentioned by Hantei, where Snake's head got holes is stupidity and something that Konami must has overlooked.

His hair cant get holes or copy the environment, only his suit can Or it is something called kojima science?

Er. Bear in mind that the game won't be out for almost another year. There will be massive changes. I'm sure they'll tweak the smoothness of actions, as even I spotted that without looking too hard. Don't think that this is what your end-product will be like.

The initial trailer was a CG-type filming. This is how the game's environment will look (less "yellow"). This is our first glimpse at in-game movements. Things are still very early.

I really like the guitar music. I hope it's as good or even better than the MGS3 ost.

Is it really possible to control the way you roll in a barrel?

I'm also confused whether or not those Gecko's are really powerful or not. In the other trailer, they smashed a lot of soldiers really fast, but it seemed kinda slow when fighting Snake.

And what kind of idiot wouldn't see a small robot go up and tazer your nuts?

And it looks like Kojima is still using the homosexual themes in this game too. At the end where Snake poses as a statue, he props his left hand on the other statue's family jewels. (And somehow his mask is gone, without him taking it off with his hands.)

Huh, I didn't even notice there were holes in his head. Just noticed the dark blood on the side of Snake's face.

Yea I'm with ya on the Gekkous striped phantom. Cause in the previous trailer we see Snake running for his life, then we see them slaughter squad of them, and now we see Snake taking on this one with ease. Though, I'm guessing in the E3 2006 trailer, that was Snake's first encounter with them.

well enemies are suppose to look incredible during the movie scenes and since they showed gameplay this time they had to show that it was vanurable somewhere.
Just look at metal gear ray in mgs2, it took down a whole ship on its own but raiden was able to beat so many towards the end.

Ummm yes? Actually the environments look alot better than those showcased last year and they should given they were low resolution placeholders with some textures even being brought over from MGS3 which is why the original TGS '05 trailer was only going to be 1 minute long.

I think that MGS4 will turn out pretty. Equal, if not better, than the first TGS trailer.

I mean it's still at least a year off (barring delays), and we know the first TGS trailer was real (real-time camera manipulation). I think right now it's much less making it pretty than fitting the AI, physics, sounds and all that into the game. It makes much more sense to think that once the duties are correctly assigned to the CELL's SPUs, and the code is optimized, we'll see the complete game work that quality. After all, Motorstorm took a massive hit from what it was at E3 2K5, and now it's right back up there, and playable too.

I think you can change your face if you have the mask over your face, similar to the face camo in the third game you might be able to change faces in the fourth. Maybe you have to scan the face of someone and then you can upload it to your suit and it changes. I belive the young snake is nothing more then a "mask". Cool thing would be maybe if you can change it to look like a enemy face and then walk around your enemies and stuff :S

It still looks amazing, it's still Metal Gear, and I'm still getting a PS3 for it... that's all that matters.
If graphics were everything then the Wii would be screwed, and MGS4 still looks amazing to me.

P.S.
Does anyone have the MGS4 TGS '06 trailer in HD besides the ruliweb one?, because it has a fat melon in the way.
