Fellas, I don't mean to be a spoil-sport in this argument, but it's particularly boring and incomprehensible to the layman (such as I am).

There are so many games and stuff coming out for Wii!

Is anybody genuinely distraught about pricing and all that?

Pretty please? I love to read things I can actually grasp, and electronics isn't quite one of them

How ya doing, buddy?

Exactly. You're going to be playing the game, not staring at th damn screen looking for damn pixels. Not even all gamers are this picky over picture quality on a screen, how much more do you think Nintendo's audience, the non/casual gamers, are going to give a damn? Personally, the distance between me and my TV is more or less 14 feet (4.26 meters) (at home anyways, here at college, it's more like 8-10 feet.(2.43 meters - 3.04 meters)) There is no way in hell that I'm going to see any individual pixels and severe bleeding of color from that distance. Thus, why it doesn't bother me. Unless you're sitting at less than at less than 4 feet (1.2 meters) from your screen or just have amazing eyesight, it's not going to be that much of a difference.

Anyways...

Yes, Pricing does suck a bit, but it's not too bad. I mean, in a way that, Nintendo didn't break any promises or offer any false hope. For the most part, we were just a bit too optimistic before the official announcement and assumed a lower price point than $250. On the other hand, even if they didn't say anything about it and we didn't assume much, the Wiimote+Nunchuck is a bit too pricey for my taste. I don't think I'll be picking up 4 any time soon, maybe 2 total would be enough. Games......I don't know, I was looking forward to Brawl much earlier, but that moved to 2007, then I was looking at Zelda, MP3, and Mario Galaxy, and 2 of the 3 were also moved back. I'm somewhat dissappointed, but Zelda is still there, so it's not all bad. Coupled with Excite Truck, Launch is still pretty amazing.

How ya doing, buddy?

And WarioWare! And also, don't forget about all the third party games coming out too. We have Super Monkey Ball, Metal Slug Anthology, and Red Steel at the very least to look forward to. I'm hoping Ubisoft cleaned up Red Steel's controls since E3. No question, this will be one of the best launches that I've seen in many years.

I would hope that there's going to be alot of good games for this system at launch since the programming for the Wii is 99% the same as the GC, therefore Nintendo won't have any excuses of developers learning new hardware and crap.

If judged by Red Steel at the press conference in London, friday, then the answer is no. Pretty horrible controls. Elebits, on the other hand, had all the FPS control I'd want from a Wii game. Red Steel was jumbled, erratic and so on...

$60 ($40/$20) for the controller is pretty high but i'm gonna have to
get another one of course haha ^_^''

Did they ever mention how much the traditional controller is going to cost?
I might need those if the Wiimote feels wierd to play fighting games.

Actually you will need one in order to play the SNES and N64 games, the Wiimote only works for Wii games and NES games. Unfortunatly though no price yet that I've heard of.

I don't know if it is true or not, but I've heard several times that the Red Steel controls are perfectly fine from far away, but don't work for crap when up close.

I used three input source to see the different. I use the GCN, DVD player and HD cable box (set it to 480i and viewing all of analog, digital and HD content) and use composite, s-video and component cable. From composite to s-video the video was sharper. From s-video to component, not only it was sharper but the color was richer too. Oh well.

Now talking about the Wii, I wish it was for $200 but I can live with $250. I also wish the black Wii would be available at launch too. So I was thinking if I should wait a bit to see if Nintendo would release the black Wii...oh say... January of 2007... but I doubt it. :/

EDIT: I'm not sure if anybody posted this link but here's a video interview of Perrin Kaplan where she still state that the Wii is region free and that she gets the same question from other interviewer.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Sounds like a damn good deal to me. And yes, I forgot all about Red Steel and the other lanch games.....man, this launch is going to be awesome, too bad I can't get all of them. The only complaint I have is that I don't have enough money to get 'em all.

The only ones that I want right now are Mario, Red Steel, and Excite Truck so no money shortages for me... well that's after I get the initial money. Seeing how the Wii now comes out 2 days after the PS3 I won't have enough for the Wii at launch... thanks Nintendo.

One other question, I've heard that the Rayman for the Wii is just a collection of mini games put in a linear order to make a game. Is this true, or is it still a platformer with a mini game here and there?

You know, you could just not spend as much money at the Sony launch. Just because it comes first by 2 days doesn't mean you have to spend more on it.

I have the same question about Rayman though. It looks awesome, but if it's just a collection of mini-games...

Where have you heard this? Rayman: Raving Rabids is a cross-platform title, so gameplay on different platforms should be roughly uniform for the most part. Perhaps they threw some Wii-mote minigames in their for Nintendo specifically?

From the sound of it, it was supposed to be a platformer more or less, but then they saw the remote controller and decided to just turn it into a bunch of minigames to show it off (can anyone say tech demo?). It sounds like the gameplay more or less consists of minigames stringed together:

Quote:
Nintendo Magazine asks: But from the start, you proposed to make a mini-games title?

Adrien Lacey (game designer) replies: No, at the start, we wanted to make a classical platform. And then when we received the development kits for the Wii, we saw what was possible to produce. We had too many great ideas for a party game that would take advantage of all that (Wii controls I assume)! We resorted to a box into which everyone slid an idea. Next, we separated those ideas that were feasible and those that were not…

NM asks: But these are not like the mini-games in WarioWare that only last a few seconds…

AL replies: No, and rightly so. Rest assured, there are some events that are very short, around ten seconds or so. But in certain events, like the Doom-style event, the combat portions or courses last several minutes! In addition there is a scenario in which events are linked together, in order or succession (a progression).
Taken from here: http://gamesweb.wordpress.com/2006/0...-a-party-game/. And also this:

Quote:
“The game is comprised of two principal modes. First the story mode, which is organized into fifteen days. Each day, you begin in your cell. At the start things are very sinister! From your slammer, you can enter the Rabbit Arena, where you wait for the events. You can attempt five mini-games each day – four events and one boss encounter. Depending on your rate of success, the rabbits will congratulate you and offer objects of comfort for your cell. You can unlock amusing bonuses such as tacky costumes and disco music! When in the second mode you can replay the mini-games freely, either playing by yourself, or multiplayer!”

It's not like this is the first time Rayman's been a mini game collection. And I dunno, they haven't shown anything at all from the other console versions. The PC version seems to be the same as the Wii game using the mouse instead of the Wii controller. If they were making a full on platformer for PS2/Xbox/GC/3DO and it's due out soon you'd expect them to have shown it off by now.

Except GBA, it gets a neat 2D platformer.

EB's site lists it as Rayman 4 for the 360, but it has no actual description and the cover logo is the same as the Wii except white instead of black. Their Wii description made it sound like a platformer too, but oh well.

Avanent: Hey, I got a 360 at launch and on my third one now. So not to honk my own horn or anything, but I like to think that I'm pro with dealing with tech support at this point, and from my experiance Microsoft techies are the worst so Sony won't be so bad. Also I still have & use my launch day PS1 and 2 so my experiances have been pretty good. (unfortunatly not everyone is as lucky as me sometimes) And I don't know about you guys but I paid $500 - 550 on launch day for my PS2, so 550 - 650 CAD for a PS3 really isn't that surprising.

i really really want to get some composite cables for this thing!
Here's where I got mine Game Liquidations.

Now I see the video and right audio but I don't see the left audio in the picture (white). However, the one I have has all three.

Anyways, so in order to play the SNES and N64 games, I have to have the classic controller? Can I go ahead and make the assumption that I can use my cube controller?

Alright, I've gotta admit I'm psyched about the Wii. I was looking forward to Metroid Prime 3 on launch day but even though that's not gonna happen now, I'm alright with it. In truth, I'd probably spend more time on Zelda than anything else. I'll also say by the time I'm done with Zelda, hopefully the virtual console stuff will be online.

I haven't been this excited since the last time I preordered a system, which was the Dreamcast. The only thing I'm concerned with is if I get a defect Wii, which I hope doesn't happen.

Rayman is my most wanted game besides Big Damn Trucks, there's just so much style and humour in it. It can't NOT be fun. I would prefer a new platformer if Rayman 3 wasn't so mediocre.

The game is being ported to the other systems replacing the remote with an onscreen cursor, but I don't think they've really put much thought into that yet.

SuperSonic: I appreciate the compliment ^^ Life's too short to wait for things to go your way, I like to take things as they come... not when they come.

As for the using the GC controller for the retro games, they haven't officially said yes or no to that, but they've made it sound pretty clear that you need X item to do Y action. So I wouldn't get my hopes up being able to use the GC controller for anything but GC games. But if it does work, more power to the Wii and a few bucks more towards another game.

P.S.
Has anyone else seend the add-on for the Wiimote to make it more like a gun? I hope that's out at launch for Red Steel, it would make the game so much cooler.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
