Yeah, very good reason. I think BF2 and BF2142 needs more of an emphasis on squad, not just "join squad, spawn on squad leader" attitude that is has.

Sadly, most online FPS need more of that attitude...

That's why I play with my clan. Well, when I can.

It's pretty amazing how much damage an organized squad can do.

One of the reasons I liked Natural Selection so much. Teamwork is mandatory in that game, you'll be quickly yelled at if you try running off on your own when you're put in a squad and told to do something.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

One problem though, Leeroy Jenkins didn't mind getting yelled at >_>

We have 3 people active on Xfire right now, were ready to begin so if you want to join in, by all means do ^_^

dammit I missed the session if there was one last night. Sorry. On a better note I did finally get my expert Anti Armor badge

That makes 6 expert badges. Working on Expert Assault next.

Hey guys, question.

My roommate has a copy of Battlefield 2 he's willing to let me use the key for (since he doesn't play it anymore), but I don't have a DVD drive. Do you think the game will work for online multiplayer if I download an image, install with his key, and use a no-cd crack for it (actually, I guess I could always just play with it mounted forever, but this would be easier)?

I've no idea if that would work, but maybe someone else here would be better able to answer that.

Yes, there was a session last around around 9:30 or so. We had a good turnout as before, but we didn't win any awards other than Solis getting two Bronze medals. Oddly, once Taco left our session, the rounds got worse. Hmmm....

I sincerely doubt it, and I wouldn't try it, since there's always the possibility of being blacklisted. I have seen people getting kicked before by punkbuster for being logged in in two places, so I suppose it's possible.

What would I get blacklisted for, though? I mean, he's quit the game and has no interest in playing again and if he did, he would be sitting right next to me and we'd kinda know if the other was using the account.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Well, for running the game with a crack, I mean. They may shoot first and ask questions later.

You'll have to let me know if this works for you, because I downloaded a DVD iso of the game a while back, since I didn't want to mess with 3 or 4 CDs, and never tried it out afterwards.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Yes, this is possible. But you don't use a crack for it, all you need to do is install the game (through the network or whatever), and then you can install Daemon Tools and mount a "mini-image" of BF2 (it's roughly 5MB). The mini-image gets by the disc check at the start, and there's no way for them to detect whether or not you're using an actual disc or the image. I've been using it for over a year now and it's worked beautifully, I really don't want to have to swap out discs every time I play BF2.

I can't find the link to the image though, if nothing else I can put it up on sendspace for you.

There's one here, but it says you have to use a runaround like antiblaxx to avoid blacklisting, so...

Think I'd be alright just leaving the whole DVD image mounted? That's not really a huge hassle for me and might be easier than messing with what could be problematic mini-image things.

Edit: Ack, looks like I need to use the mini-image since it doesn't recognize the dvd after installation.

The mini-image won't cause any problems, it just contains the security information of the main disc (which isn't contained when you rip the disc). I have it mounted in Daemon Tools and I've never had any issues with it. I uploaded it to sendspace if you want it:

Sweet, the image worked and I was able to play a few games without a problem. Managed to get a basic badge in Spec Ops and Anti-Tank as well as my first promotion (yay PFC) right before I finished for the night. I wasn't able to join a squad on any of the servers I played on, do you have to be a certain rank in order to do that?

Hmm... never heard of a rank restriction before, and I doubt all of the squads were locked (marked by a little padlock icon). Were you trying to join squads before spawning or while you were dead? A couple of patches ago they made it so you can only join squads while you're alive (to stop the phenomenon known as squad rotation).

Ahh, that's what it was, then. In the demo you could join squads while dead, so I'd always do it then so I wouldn't get killed by someone while that massive screen was up.

Also just played their new version of Wake Island. It's amazing how that map could be perfect in BF1942 but now it felt miserable with the helicopters and artillery crushing my team the whole time. That's actually the one thing I've felt ever since I started playing the demo is that artillery shouldn't be able to shoot nearly as often as it does. It makes it too easy to just whomp on a base.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Many servers you'll find have rules about entering or attacking uncappables, but it's always kind of a crapshoot as to whether they enforce them or not.

It's one of the things about Point of Existence that is very nice: you can turn a feature on or off to harm enemies when they enter an uncappable, the same way BF2 harms you if you go out of bounds.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Heh, amazing what simple things EA didn't think of.

Instead they went and made a whole new game using the same engine (BF2142) where the spawn points are protected by force fields. Good job EA!

I don't know if the question was answered or not, but I've been running a downloaded copy with a legit key for quite some time now. My 2nd disc was severely scratched by my 2 year old son, so I have to download it every time I reformat. You'll be fine.

Oddly enough I found the BF2 version to be mor balanced... Tanks are not nearly as dangerous since there's enough elevation in the terrain to take cover. And aircrafts are not nearly too bad if you got good pilots to keep them busy.

Artillery = best friend for spec ops free points and complete annoyance for the commander ^___^

Hey, guys, forgot to mention this before, but for those of you looking at BF2142, you might as well check out this contest: http://forums.fevergaming.com/showthread.php?t=88935

Just answer a trivia type question about 2142 each day for a chance to win a free 2142 CD key. Winners are drawn randomly from the PMs that guy receives, at noon central each day until the game is released. Pretty cool, I must say.

Solis is some sort of good luck charm or something.

The round he came in I got a shiny Veteran First Aid badge. Weeeeew.

I have alot more awards that are bound to crop up in the next week or so. Alot of awards I've met all the qualifications for except total time played. Most awards will mature when I play for another 5 hours. So in the next two weeks I'm planning on obtaining:

Rank:
First Sergeant

Badges:
Expert Engineer Badge? (I may not have enough IAR repair points yet, time matures in ~2 hours though)

Medals:
Combat Infantry Medal: Need 4.5 more hours
Navy Cross: Need 7.5 USMC playhours

Ribbons:
Legion of Merit Ribbon? (Need 4.5 more hours, not sure if I've gotten the required 50 Team Points IAR, shouldnt be to hard to get if not though)

And with the promotion, I'll be getting the last gun that I hold interest in, the P90 Anti-Tank unlock. From my limited firing experiance in-game with it and my vast experiance in being shot by it, I think I'll fall in love with the thing and it will replace the DAO-12 as my love gun when obtained.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
