True, people with 360s (including myself) are lucky when they get an RPG, especially a J-RPG so we can't be all that picky. When you talk about the PS3 though you know it's just going to get caught in the wash. With better more exciting PS3 exclusives at launch, and the fact that Sony has the largest RPG library of any console I don't think that [EM] will even be noticed on the PS3. Especially if Bethesda manage to get Oblivion out the door for the PS3 in the launch window.

Sony plans to integrate an xFire system for the PS3. Impressive move! xFire is by far the best "friends" list program for games I've dealt with so far.

This will be really sweet. To see friends whether they be on their PS3 or on their PC and also chat with them either way, that's cool. I know that MS has already pitched a feature like this for vista but;

1. New MS OSs take about 4 years to become stable
2. Sony + Xfire... c'mon!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Vista won't be stable for another year to year and a half. Even then what you'll be getting is a memory whore of an OS with DRM things left and right and very little of the promised changes.

It seems like we'll have to wait for Blackcomb to roll around for some substantial change. Whoops, back to your regularly scheduled PS3 news.

Wait and see, on my side, to all of this. Sony's fumbled the PS3 too much for me to just jump right in.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

The text is part of the image and the two squires aren't exactly even.

Fumbled??? Launches never go smooth, and to expect otherwise is unrealistic. As for the price, seeing how I am even today playing my PS2 about 3X the amount of my 360 I'm more then confident that the PS3 while a bit pricey, will be more then a worth while investment. But hey, if we didn't have opinions, or competition companies wouldn't have the motivation to do better and the price of things would be through the roof if the market were monopolized.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I don't know exactly what xFire is, but PennyArcade was saying that suposedly it'll only be for one game (so far?).

Its more than just the launch. PS3 following the same market strategy as PSP is a bad plan.

The only problem with the PSP market strategy is that they're trying to use the same strategy for a handheld that they would use for a console. When applied to a console though, there's not as many flaws.

But if you can be more specific then perhaps I will understand more of what you mean.

I was speaking idiomatically.

That's right, the PSP was definitely marketed incorrectly, because there are not too many people who want a multimedia powerhouse as a handheld. If you wanted multimedia, you'd watch it on a stationary entertainment system with the comfort of your couch and TV. Watching a movie on a Computer Screen isn't too bad, but watching one on the PSP? That's a bit too small to enjoy. People expect a handheld to play games as a primary function. If you market a handheld to be an entertainment system, not many people are going to buy it. People who want to watch movies have a portable DVD player. People who want to listen to music have an MP3 player. If you're going to buy a PSP, you're going to be gaming on it.

What Omnislash said.

The only reason I'm interested in the PS3 is as a game player. However, I can't see paying 600$ for it. Same reason I didn't go for the PSP.

You are correct though, its not as bad of a strategy on a console. I'm still watching the PS3, even though I have no current plans of owning one. I lost all interest for the PSP when I first heard about all their plans for it.

Like I said, if you were even thinking of getting a Next-gen console (not including Wii, we'll save that discussion for later) then the extra $50 for a PS3 is definatly worth it if you're a fighting, RPG, or Metal Gear fan, because these are things that you won't get near as much of on the 360. And if you want sports and tons of generic shooters including Halo then you have to get a 360. My point is that the price really isn't that big of a deal, while it may be expensive, what's the point in spending $500 for a 360 if you wouldn't use it as much as you would a PS3 for $550??

Also for thoes who think that you have to buy the $600 PS3 to make it worth while you're wrong. It's been proven that HD does not make THAT much of a difference for gaming yet seeing as there's not enough texture detail yet to utelize this feature unlike TV or movies, and if you have an HDMI TV then I don't think that money is really that big of a deal for you so stop bitching.

Also if you think about it, if you would get a 360 and LIVE and buy a PS3 instead just think of the difference as a one time payment for the online portion seeing as how it's free unlike X-box LIVE. Therefore the $57.00 difference (after taxes) works out to be 6 months of X-box LIVE fees... but you only way for 6 months not 12 months times 5 years ($540).

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Well, I'm on the fence about which PS3 to buy. The $600 version (henceforth referred to as 600-model) has a larger hard drive for one, which is good but not necessary, more or less. But it's also got built-in WiFi which, if the 360's Wireless Network Adapter is any indication, would be $100 to buy it as an attachment.

There's also the lack of memory slots that has me concerned. How much will Sony charge for the add-on, as opposed to paying $100 more and getting it included? And there's the shiny chrome and metallic finishes as well. Oooooooooooooooh shiny.

I'm probably gonna get the 500-model, but we'll see. If the attachments add up to be any more than $100 individually, then I'm going with the 600-model to ultimately save money.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Pietak: lol, true... true

SouthJag: Yeah I'm kind of on the fence aswell. The chrome, larger HDD and Wi-Fi are all cool but... I probably won't even use 20GB (nevermind 60GB), already have a cable runnung from MGS Online and my original X-box so I don't really NEED the more expensive one. Also on the other hand, Sony said that they were going to ship more premium ones to North America then core ones so I might just end up getting the premium one due to that fact.

Now when you talk anout memory slots do you mean flash, or memory cards? Sony has said that you can use any generic USB flash card reader (around $45CAD) on the core PS3, and neither the $500 or the $600 models will have the PS1/2 memory card readers built in anyway so...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Yeah, but looking at the PS1 and 2 track record and the fact that they're grinding their gears trying to get units out before Christmas you may end up being Sony's bitch if you buy one of the first batch units.

I don't know about Pietak but I am on my third 360 so at this point I'm pro at dealing with customer service so no biggie ^^

Also the #1 problem with new consoles os overheating and due to the fact that the PS3 has liquid cooling, Sony has already eliminated the largest factor, and beyond that it's almost to the regular odds. But hey if you want to hold off that's totaly up to one's self.

Hmmm... scratch that, I've been trying to pull up some more recent info on the PS3 cooling and it looks like it isn't using liquid cooling any longer but a custom heat pipeline means of cooling. When you figure out what that means let me know, lol.

Ah, basicly, that's a type of heatsink cooling that uses "heatpipes" to distribute heat along the fan that runs near it. That way, the heat is taken away from the processor, and blown out by a fan running near it. Kind of like a refridgerator, but not at all.

It has been revealed today by a radiOPM podcast that the November issue of OPM (the Official Playstation Magazine) will feature a secret PS3 launch game that they "cannot talk about". This week, they have provided a couple of clues in their podcast: the game is five words long and that it is a launch game that you have "not heard of and won't hear of until the November issue of OPM" hits the shelves.

They also revealed that an actual PSP demo for the game Killzone: Liberation will be included in the OPM November issue if you buy the issue from a news stand. Subscribers will not get the UMD demo. Overall, the November issue of this magazine looks to be very interesting and we can't wait to get our hands on it!

One thing, don't count on guessing the PS3 launch title they have described correctly, they also said that the cues they have given are "completely useless", but be sure to leave any speculation in the comments! The discussion on the November issue of OPM begins at 40:20. Check out the download of the podcast below!

Ooh, secret game. Fun.

unless it turns out to be something like crash bandicoot: who cares anymore.

EDIT: The rumored secret game is....

Spoiler:
The Elder Scrolls IV : Oblivion

Makes sense, given the recent rumors. Plus, it would be pretty awesome as a launch title.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I thought they already said this was in production for the PS3? Wouldn't be very secret now.

KOTOR III perhaps?

Not likely KOTOR 3 because that studio is still ruching to get Mass Effect out the door for the 360. But Devil May Cry 4 and Tekken 6 have yet to be expanded upon since their initial viewings.

Oblivion confirmed for launch.

Quote:
The-Elder-Scrolls-Four-Oblivion. Well, that's five words.

Well, if you folks remember our piece on the speculated Official Playstation Magazine feature of a secret launch title, you all had your own opinions on what it could be. Personally, I'm partial to the We All Still Love Katamari comment, but I digress.

If this is to be believed, then some of our commenters were quite right in saying that the secret title being talked about was a PS3 version of Oblivion. It does fit some of the criteria mentioned on the previous article, though it's something we've heard of previously rather than something completely new.

In any case, this was potentially leaked in 1Up Yours, the 1Up podcast. Whether or not it was meant to be interpreted as the secret title is beyond us, but it's still nice to dream, right?

You can download the podcast from us and move one hour and fifteen minutes into the podcast to get to the part where they mention Oblivion. Of course, we could always be looking at some super exclusive hit like KATAMARI COOKING MAMA: HYPER BATTLE or something.
Well, that's pretty much every 360 game I was interested in.

And here's how PS3 boxes will look.

Too bad they didn't go with the black border idea.

UPDATE: Here's the back of the box.

The border wouldn't be so annoying if it wasn't transparent.

I was speaking idiomatically.
