Sons and Daughters

This had it's premier last night on ABC in the 9 to 10pm time slot. A tough piece of pie to slice for sure which saddens me because upon catching the first episodes, I predict this is going to be overlooked and get the axe early. It shows a ton of promise as a partially improvised show with some pretty funny mostly unknowns. The style is almost Curb Your Enthusiasm-esque. Anyone else impressed, excited, worried about this little gem?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

It was decent enough, with a few laughs. I love the cast. I heard somewhere that this would be comedy show to watch instead of Arrested Development, but while not a disapointment, it's nowhere near as funny as AD.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I caught bits of it during the commercial breaks for Scrubs. I thought the dialogue seemed awkward, but not in a funny way. None of what I saw seemed funny at all, actually, and the acting seemed like bad improv. Not good.

It did sort of seem like somebody said, "Hey let's make a show like Arrested Development, but water it down so it'll attract a decent audience."

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I was actually thinking about watching this show, but due to my busy schedule, I wasn't able to catch it. Hopefully I can catch next week's episode and maybe get some better input on this show. I have hope for it. >_<

I only saw a liitle bit of the show while The Unit was on commercial break, so I couldn't really tell if it was good or not. Hopefully ABC will rerun it in an attempt to get more viewers (like me!) to watch it.

The question I have about the show is, even if it does become successful, will it stay in this timeslot? I know Commander-in-Chief is supposed to be coming back in April, and since that's its original timeslot, I would guess they would move it back there. But where will this show go? Why does ABC keep screwing up their schedule like this?

I was speaking idiomatically.

Coincidentally I watched this show because my mom taped it as well! I guess I should watch Arrested Development and Curb Your Enthusiasm then, because I like this kind of storytelling.

I actually liked this. It's great that they can poke fun at a serious subject but not be too off the wall and corny about it. I mean the mom, if it happened in real life, would obviously very distraught but everyone else is basically like "whatever". She even threw in the line "...and some great sex!" which made me chuckle even though that moment would have traditionally been serious.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

It's hard to spell out exactly what I liked about this show, much of it has to be seen in context. "Do you think it's weird to master the harmonica and never tell anybody?" I laughed pretty hard at that, maybe my sense of humor is just a bit askew. Home Movies would be another show I'd compare this to.

The dialogue at spots was rough. That's unavoidable in improvisation and I myself am not holding it to the expectation of polish a scripted show would have.

I kind of meant to watch this. Then again, there are a lot of shows I kind of mean to watch on network TV.

Too bad I only ever actually make an effort to watch LOST.

I was excitedly thinking this was about the band Sons & Daughters. Talk about a let down, all American tv shows are terrible.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
