RPG Dream Team
Inspired by VP: Lenneth, and in rememberence of a thread from GFFs of history, this is a thread regarding the best teams in RPGs on any console (and RPG subgenres) of party members.
Do: 1.) Post which game you're referring to (i.e. Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG, World of Warcraft, etc.). 2.) Name which characters, up to the game's max party limit. No, Chrono Trigger did not allow 5 party members. 3.) Post your reason as to why this team was so great for you/your style of play. 4.) Create your own! Just don't forget to mention why you would use said character in conjunction with the others. Do NOT: 1.) "LOL I'd use Crono, Cloud, Sephiroth, and Kefka cuz they pwnt." 2.) Fail to mention what game they're from because hey, not everyone's played every single RPG ever made. 3.) Start falming because you hated that character but the poster above you happened to like him/her. The thread, like I said, is for all subgenres, including but not limited to action-RPG, adventure-RPG, MMORPG, dungeon crawler/RPG hybrid, etc. You get the point. For games like Diablo, WoW, Guild Wars, etc. use class types, such as mage, warrior, priest, assassin, etc. For my entry, I've a few titles right off the top of my head. Valkyrie Profile: Lately, I've been using Valkyrie, Suo, Lucian, and Nanami. I've got Valkyrie equipped with a bow and really, she makes special attacks so much easier. Since I've kept Lucian in my party, I'm not going for the A ending this time around, but I've got him equipped with the various three-hit swords. Suo's replaced Arngrim for the time being, and Nanami is a bitchin' spellcaster. Her intial weapon, Dragonbane, sets her off immediately, and I like her victory comments..."I have drawn daikichi; excellent fortune!" Heh. Chrono Trigger: At the end game, it was Crono, Magus, and Ayla. An odd combination for sure, but it worked for me. During regular gameplay, I often swapped Ayla for Frog or Marle. At the end though, I needed her natural strength. Didn't need a healer as I'd been saving all of my Lapis' for that final fight. Final Fantasy VII: Cloud, Vincent and Tifa. Cloud had the master summon materia equipped, Vincent had master magic along with a mastered All and Quad Magic. That left Tifa with Master Command. Honestly though, once I got Vincent, I stuck with that party through and through. Just served me the best, I suppose. Super Mario RPG: At the very end, I decided against having Mallow in the party and brought out Mario, Geno, and Princess. Geno's 9999 trick was much too easy to exploit and much too helpful, and Princess' Group Hug magic was essential. Mario? He was a badass, plain and simple. World of Warcraft: If I could have a raid party that consisted entirely of (level 60) druids, hunters, and paladins I'd be happy. For basic strategy, it's your highest defense-rated characters up front, healer/mages in the middle, and hunters in the back. So why druids over priests and mages? It's for consolidation purposes, I suppose. Why have two other classes with weak defenses to worry about when one class is able to wear better armor, wield stronger weapons, heal/buff themselves and others, and cast from afar? Hunters in the back so they can stick to range. That's where the other purpose for druids come in -- if the hunters gain aggro, druids can gain it back. So yeah, basic strategy +++. So, create-a-party mode now. I'll make a 4-person team. I'm kinda hung up on Valkyrie Profile right now, so I'd throw Valkyrie in there for sure, and equip her with a bow. Primarily, she's a damage-dealer. With a three-hit bow, she does major damage. She's got a decent amount of health (for a tri-Ace game, where damage gets into the millions :/), her special attack Nibelung Valesti is cool, and she's got a cool voice. Next, I'd pull Albert from Legend of Dragoon. He's a good balance between speed and power, and in a game where the longer the combo chain is, the better, Albert has some pretty long combos. Throw in some really bitchin' attacks in his Dragoon transformation, and Albert's a powerhouse fighter with some quick attacks and impressive combos. PSone RPGs a go-go, I'll also take Noa from Legend of Legaia. There's always been somethin likeable about her. She's not a mute protagonist like Vahn, and she's not emotionally-repressed like Gala. I like her weapons and combos as well. But compared to the other two, she's got neither the power or health to stand against heavy-hitting enemies. Oh well, every good team's gotta have a handicap. :/ Thus far, I've got no magic user or healer at all, so for good measure, I'll throw in the Alchemist costume change from Final Fantasy X-2. Once I got it, that was basically all I used. Free potions all day long, and the girls actually deal some excellent damage as well. All the free potions the Alchemist costume gets more than makes up for heals, but I guess I'm shit outta luck with just magic. :/ I dunno, give me an alternate slot and I'd put in Nanami from Valkyrie Profile. Her magic power is the highest among all my current mages, and she has cool catch-phrases. ![]() Edit: Forgot to include some stuff in my post. I'll probably post more later, as more ideas come up. Have fun. Jam it back in, in the dark. Liked Final Fantasy 8's party (squall, rinoa , and zell) a 3 person party.
zell's attacks looked cool. Rinoa could use invicible moon. making it impossible to lose for some time. And Squall had the lionheart, which is like omnislash x 50. Beat the game I think with a different team, but that was because I was forced to. The boss would always kill my teammates or scamble their order. My own team: Squall (for attack power), Chrono (For attack and magic), Rinoa (for the best RPG technique ever.....invicible moon) There's nowhere I can't reach.

Dream team, huh? I'll go with a 4-person team . I'll assume this team works in a tick-based system (similar to Wild ARMs 4 or Final Fantasy X).
Raquel Applegate (Wild ARMs 4) - Raquel's a powerhouse. Simple strikes from her sword are strong enough to fell the meanest beasts, and her force ability, Intrude, allows her to take two turns in a row. She'll be the main powerhouse of the team. Her only problem is that she's SLOW. Really slow. Jane Maxwell (Wild ARMs Alter Code: F) - Jane can be a token thief character, but her main use in this crew is her Follow Me ability. Follow Me makes every character in her party take a turn right after her. This helps a lot, since Jane is by far the fastest character in her game, and it will allow Raquel to take a turn for every turn Jane gets, increasing damage output by a lot, probably over doubling it Jane also has great evasion and is near immune to physical attacks due to that. Gets better if Raquel is allowed to use Jane's FP (FP is shared in WA4, but not WA AC:F, so that's an iffy subject). Jane also has the Mystic force ability that allows her to extend an item's effects to her whole party or a group of enemies. Helpful for healing the whole party at once. Now I need a healer. Well, Jane can heal, but she's better off using Follow Me most of the time. Daisoujou (Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne) - Daisoujou has a spell that heals every character to full and restores all status effects. Definitely one of the better healing spells out there. It does cost a lot of MP, but Daisoujou also has a drain attack, which drains an enemy's HP and MP, giving him a much larger MP supply. Probably not the best healer against enemies who don't have much MP, but he's still solid nonetheless. He also has a handy Preach attack which deals decent damage and inflicts three different status effects on each opponent. Next is the token mage. Myriam (Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song - Myriam's magic can pack quite a punch, and if her class levels are levelled up to the max, she can probably cast it every turn indefinitely. If not, she'll just have to wait a turn to get more BP. She also has access to quite an array of different kinds of magic, including the powerful Overdrive, which allows her to take 5 turns in a row without interruption. If I had to make a 5-person team, I'd also add in Fee (Atelier Iris 2: The Azoth of Destiny) - Fee's the fastest in her game and also deals the most damage in her game (barring mana items). She also has the Quick ability, which gives her a 50% chance to make her next turn come twice as fast, and the Avoid ability, which gives her a 20% chance to dodge ANY attack (including those that ignore evade). She does have to use her basic attacks to charge up to use her skills, but her basic attacks deal decent enough damage, and she's fast enough to make this worthwhile. Not an offensive powerhouse like Raquel, but she's got enough to be a worthy member of the party. And besides, I like Fee. >.> This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
For Final Fantasy VII, my best party has always been Cloud, Red XIII and Cid. Until everyone can do 9999 damage, they're the strongest characters in the game.
For Chrono Trigger I'd use Crono for his high physical damage (Rainbow Sword ftw), Marle for healing, and Magus for magic damage. Now for my "dream team" I'd have Claude Kenni from Star Ocean 2 equipped with the Grand Stinger, Yuna from FFX with her healing magic and the summoned Magus Sisters, and Cid from FFVII for sheer badass. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Heh, kind of fun. I'll be a little off beat though, using favorite characters from anything. I'll go with Final Fantasy 4 setup (3 in the front, 2 in the rear)
Front row I'd have Kratos from God of War. His cool attacks and damage dealing capabilities are mighty, and his magic makes him very deadly. I'd also use Mitsurugi from Soul Calibur III. He'd have his Damascus Blade from Soul Blade though for a weapon, since it is the godliest weapon ever made. His attacks would make him very dangerous as a front line fighter. The last character in my front line would have to be the Ninja from Ninja Gaiden. With a ninja I can't lose, and with a ninja as cool as this one, I would have to say that my team would be able to flip out and kill shit with total awesomeness. For the rear line I'd run with two gunners. First would be Dante from Devil May Cry. His ability to switch weapons depending on the enemy or to go to his Devil form to unleash some real power. The second gunner is Lara Croft from Tomb Raider. She's the token female, adds some nice sexiness to the team and is deadly herself. That would be a fun team to play I think, and interesting characters to make a story around, heh. I was speaking idiomatically.

The post will be too long if i think of everything now, so for a few of the existing parties:
Valkyrie Profile - I do enjoy a team of (off the top of my head, overall): Valkyrie- Obviously, and lvl 3 Nibelung really hurts, fortunately. Freya- Ether Strike rounds up to 1000000 damage, which is TOO nice. Lezard - Insane voice clips and incredibly powerful magic. Janus - I just find him to be the coolest archer and think the class is underrated (low ultimate weapon attack). His fiery shots add so much to the special gauge, PWS or normal attack. Chrono Cross - Out of the multitude of teams: Serge - Obviously again. Luminaire + the fact that you probably has he most stat growth out of the many characters you get by the end of the game puts him there. Starky - TOO cute and his giant robot attacks look pretty. Steena - Hmm..."Summonmaster" would be the correct term, enough said. Calling on phantoms looks pretty nice. Wild Arms 4 - Since you almost always have the same 4 characters, there's not much choice, but my sentiments also lean towards Raquel being the princess of overkill in ANY rpg I've seen. Let me mention I wasn't even one to abuse intrude very much. Raquel + Megaton Crusher rather early on can make normal battles a cinch as long as she goes at least once. I don'tcare how slow she is since Move and Attack + Intrude + Finest Arts + etc. is just respect right there. Yulie comes in second when she (hi-)materializes from hexes. You also can't deny the teamwork with all the combination attacks that are possible (and even forced), as well as all the adversity and impossible odds the characters endure. Definitely a top party in my book. more to come 8-| What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
