Suggestion: GFchat button or link
AlicenWondrland brought this up in Eleo's journal, but the site used to have the chat link on the top banner.
http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/jo...t&entryid=9221 Understandably, there is an FAQ for IRC but I felt like tossing this suggestion out there. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
There's the ability to do this, which usually brings up java and connects to irc. Of course, this would mean you'd need java already. The problem is, irc sucks in java and you'd have guests joining left right and center.
It isn't difficult to download mIRC and follow the tutorial which was posted here, which I believe is stickied. How ya doing, buddy? |
Well you see there sonny, back in the day, the link we had here would open up the little java chat and would pull your GFF username over and use it as your IRC nick, so there was not some deluge of Guest{1:50000} joining. Whether IRC in java is inferior to a regular client such as mIRC is irrelevant.
I mean gosh, even you cannot be so dense as to be unable to fathom a situation where someone would like to join chat, but is, for one reason or another, unable to install an IRC client on the PC he is using. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. I didn't say I wouldn't go fishin' with the man.
All I'm sayin' is, if he comes near me, I'll put him in the wall. |
We had it before, I see no reason why we shouldn't have it again. It was under Quick Links before as "ChocoChat" or something like that.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Yeah, Elixir, ChocoChat was a good alternative for something like a library computer where you really can't install mIRC or run it off of a disk.
My one gripe about the previous ChocoChat was that you couldn't click on links and they didn't wrap around to the next line if they were too long for the window, making really long links impossible to even type into the URL field of the browser. I'd always have to ask for tinyURLs. If ChocoChat ended up with a feature request thread, that wuold be the feature I'd be requesting. Most amazing jew boots |
Unless you're not on your own computer, bring up the tutorial and use it. It isn't difficult. Just because Alice can't master the basics doesn't mean everyone else is incapable as well. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Russ, you behave too, you sideburns fetishistic fag you. FELIPE NO ![]() |
Elixir, even if it's true that some people should just go through the faq and learn how to, the point here is that it's for PEOPLE WHO AREN'T IN A POSITION TO INSTALL A PROPER IRC CLIENT ON THEIR COMPUTER.
Sorry for that, but seriously, the quality of the client is irrelevent if java client is the best that you can do. http://network.xelium.net/java/chat.php There's a friggin link to work with for java irc, but a nice clean chocochat would mean more new people joining who aren't in a position to install new software. Basically it's for that "unless" situation you speak of. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
Hatred on the fact that I lost my old sig, maybe I'll get it back someday. Or not!

I can't install mIRC on the work computers so seeing a chat applet back would be a very welcome addition to the boards. Motion seconded (Thirded, fourthded, whatever).
Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() ![]() |
Plus, it's just easier. CLICK. You're there.
Because like Elixir pointed out, I'm obviously an idiot who can't master the basics. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
It's not so much that, Alice. It's REALLY easy, but if you aren't going to use irc's extensive features and just want it for chatting in one room then javachat is a really good solution.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I mean, I just use Trillian and thats even easier to use than mIRC I feel. You can also see smilies and click directly on links.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I was speaking idiomatically. |
No <3 from Merv...;_;
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |

Oh we have alternate ways of creating TPG in irc.
Code:

![]() I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
The first thing I noticed when I came back was the lack of the ol´ chat button. I´m going to be posting from several internet cafes for the time being, mIRC is not an option, so I´d like to see the return of this feature. Damn it bobo. How ya doing, buddy? |
Nothing gets by you. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Why would people bitch about it being there? Or would you complain about it?
I don´t really think Gamingforce needs you or anyone else to tell them that mIRC is superior to that cheesy java chat client. We all pretty much have that figured out, buddy. FELIPE NO |
Dude, Elixir. Quit it. Now. There is absolutely no reason to get worked up over this.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Sheesh, some of us don't want to fag up our computers with another program. Some of us can't. And if you don't want to use a Java based client, IGNORE THE FREAKEN BUTTON AND USE MIRC. Sheesh, just because you think mIRC is the bestest program in the world doesn't mean you can shove your beliefs down everybody else's throat. Who do you think you are? Mel Gibson? I'm in favor of the link added to the Quick Links section. Add it please bobo! Jam it back in, in the dark. |
