Question Eggs à la V for Vendetta

If you've seen V for Vendetta, you sure can remember V backing someting that looks like an egg on a slice of bread, and it's not French toast. At least not as we make it in Holland.
Does anyone know what it is, if it's good, and, ofcourse, how to make it?
I'm actually very curious :-P

Jam it back in, in the dark.

My girlfriend can make it. From what I understand, you butter a piece of bread and take a cup or a cookie cutter and cut a circle out of the bread, then you toss it on the frying pan and drop the egg yolk in the middle. (There's a way to separate the yolk from the rest of it but I can't remember.) It's actually quite good.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

That's exactly what it is. You basically butter the bread, cut out the center, and then separate the white and yolk by passing it back and forth between the two halves of the shell after you've cracked it. The white will run off and leave you with the yolk. You drop that in the center and fry all of it together. Quite tasty.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

John Mayer just asked me, personally, through an assistant, to sing backup on his new CD.

so you don,t use the whit in that recipe? this look quite tasty!

but in some scen I think you can notice a little white, does it really matter?

and when you say cut the center out, you mean like making an hole in it and put the egg in that hole? you you mean mean like cut out a layer of the bread (so the egg stay still on the bread on one side?)

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

This dish has it's own wikipedia page.

I've always heard this referred to as "Toad in a hole", but perhaps that's a Canadian thing.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Heh.
When I went to see V, I wanted to scream at the screen that it's called "Toad in the Hole" instead of "Eggs in a Basket".
I think it's just a regional kinda thing.
I've never made it myself, but my dad made it all the time when I was a kid.
It's really good if you fry up the piece of bread that's left over after making the hole.
Heck, I one time made him make me just fried bread I loved that little piece so much. lol

You cut out the hole all the way through. The egg will stick to the sides of the bread, so you don't have to worry about it falling out.
