Slow DVD drive

My DVD-RW has decided to start running in PIO mode recently and nothing I've done has been able to change it to DMA. In my device settings the channel is set to DMA if available, I've tried switching it back and forth to no avail. I've uninstalled that channel and let XP reinstall it, but that did nothing. I even did some fiddling with the registry to try to switch to DMA, but that amounted to nothing. My XP system is completely up to date and I'm running a Dell Precision M70 laptop with an 8x NEC drive.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Firmware update as well as updating your IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers drivers might do the trick.

How ya doing, buddy?
