I got nothing growing up aside from free dental and clothes, aside from christmas and my birthday.

It seems lame when you have to beg for money for things you need, like money to pay for reeds for my clarinet, then be accused of being greedy.

I do recall that I was supposed to get allowance every week after doing chores, but even if I did them my mother wound't give me squat claiming I didn't do anything. That was really inspiring, now as an adult (at least in age) when she askes my to do things I just don't do them, but at work they tell me I'm awsome and keep up the good work. It's crazy how that works.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I never really got an allowance, however my parents would always give me all of their 1p, 2p and 5p coins to save up and take to the bank, which for a while did teach me to hold on to all of my money and be a real cheapskate. I never really had a lot to buy though, so I didn't need nor expect any more money from them.

Now however they pay my tuition fees and rent the whole time I am at uni and also give me money instead of me getting a student loan. I don't think they expect me to pay any of it back, but I feel I should. I also think that because they've always supported me like this that I haven't really learned my way in the real world until quite recently; I didn't even get a job until I was 18. Even if I didn't really get an allowance, they'd reward me for things like good exam results etc and gave me lots of presents at Christmas, so it was rare I'd need to buy big things for myself. I'm developing my independance now though and they'll stop supporting me completely when I finish uni this time next year, but that's probably a good thing.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

When I was eight years old, my parents started a $2 allowance. When I was about thirteen, I was the laughing stock of my school when the other kids had $15 allowances. Turning fourteen, the tables turned. I started drug dealing to the rich kids. I could score an eighth of pot for $10, and turn it over for $50. I never made more than $100 a week, but being a broke teenager makes you creative. I quit all of that when I got a job at sixteen at the hospital turning $100 a week.

If I have children of my own, I would expect them to do chores, and give them money for activities when they ask for it. I'd rather know that I'm giving them $15 for a movie ticket rather than $5 to turn in to drug investments.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?
