This is a quote from the BSC Prelims.

This is rediculously prevalent, especially in the RPG realm; I remember similar bitching about the fact that the US got such games as Secret of Evermore (hey, I enjoyed it) and Super Mario RPG when we could have gotten such games as Seiken Densetsu 3.

WHY DO PEOPLE BLAME ONE GAME GETTING RELEASED FOR ANOTHER GAME NOT GETTING RELEASED? Y'know, I'd blame poor sales of a previous installment in a series before I blamed the company releasing a different game.

Anyway, discuss.

Uhm o_o It's a matter of my opinion.

I didn't enjoy the song to be honest. I've listened to KH tracks in the past and didn't think they were special. Didn't think Front Mission had terribly many nifty tracks. But hell, every time I see KH2, I get mad about FM5 not coming out here.

I've played it and it isn't terribly interesting in my opinion. Meanwhile, an underplayed yet still excellent series is overstepped entirely as Square-Enix chooses to pitch its time elsewhere. Could've been due to the last ones not selling well, but I could just as well blame Square itself for not advertising enough.

Donald & Goofy > Mechs evidently ;_;

Anyhow, I've played Front Mission and thoroughly enjoyed each installment. To get denied the fifth part of the series really ruffles my feathers.

Would've appreciated anonymity or a reference ;p Now I'm sure I'll get some hateful PMs of sorts~ Bottom line is that I'm terribly bitter and see KH2 hype drowning out folks wanting any other RPGs around its release. Younger gamers (most gamers?) spending the last $40-50 they have on KH2 since they want a new RPG. Not as many sales for concurrent release games of the same genre. But that's how I interpret things.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
Hey, maybe you should try that thing Chie was talking about.

Secret of Evermore was an American developed RPG, so publishing this in the US was not exactly taking up valuable resources that could have been devoted to another project.

Nowadays though, if GAME X doesn't get an English language release, it isn't nearly as big a deal as it would have been 15 years ago, because instead of playing GAME X, you could just go choose between GAME Y, GAME Z, GAME DELTA, GAME GAMMA, GAME ADVANCED CALCULUS, GAME etc.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

You know what, Seiken Densetsu 3 was not a very good game. I wish Square funded SoE better, because that was shaping up to be EPIC.

Why don't you like Seiken Densetsu 3? I thought that it was pretty fun and one of the few games that I've been tempted to replay a few times (although I never have time to do so).

I was speaking idiomatically.

No Front Mission 5? Oh well. I enjoyed 3 and 4 enough, but 5 certainly didn't seem to offer anything really new to the table. Kingdom Hearts 2 on the other hand is a continuation of the storyline and considering that the first one sold like mad, I can see why KH2 was opted over FM5.

With all this talk about sans FM5 (as I'm playing and loving 3 right now), I'm not all that sad that KH2 came here, but what I'm most worried about and not sure what this thread has stated:

1. KH2 has been released here, and FM5 will NEVER be released in North America.

OR

2. KH2 has been released here, and there are no current plans to release FM5 in NA.

From the gist of the opening post, I'm understanding that the situation is "1". Please correct me if I'm wrong, thanks.

The thread was made to address how folks (myself in this instance) always seem to claim that one game didn't make it here because of another.

Well, that's how things work. KH2 was seen as easy profit so they snagged that. FM5 could take as much if not more effort and it wouldn't be a guaranteed seller. It's how things work, since these companies are businesses and thinking economically. But I'll be god damned if I can't be pissed about it.

Spatula, 1 & 2 can essentially be seen a synonymous =p Squenix trademarked "Scars of War" for American release, but the copyrighted period is (or has) expired since they haven't carried it through.

Ah! Perhaps I should have redone it as "SquareEnix not explicitly stating anything about a NA release vs SquareEnix adamantly stating FM5 will never touch North American soil". Same thing I guess, just perhaps a bit more clear.

I agree. Seiken Densetsu 3 was fun while it lasted, but ultimately I don't think it's anything too special. I'd take Secret of Evermore over it myself. I had started playing through it again not too long ago and I only quit because I got killed by the swamp boss and didn't want to navigate that entire area again at the time. The game was as immersive as ever. Jeremy Soule's music surely has a lot to do with it and you can't go wrong with the Secret of Mana gameplay setup.

Anyways, if there's any truth in what Utopia had said before about Nintendo choosing to localize Chrono Trigger rather than other games like SD3 and RS3, I think they made the right choice. RS3 is actually really good and it would've been nice to have gotten it but Chrono Trigger is legendary. We need a 2D legend like that to keep the FFVII fanboys in check. Not everybody loves FFVI and that's where CT comes in.

Heresy I say! Heresy! Burn him at the stakes!

Anyhow I think it simply can be explained by people wanting something to blame when things don't go their way. I know I for one got pissed when I heard SD3 wouldn't come outside Japan as it was one of my most antricipated games ever for me after playing SD2 to death.

Secret of Mana was my first memorable RPG experience that I too played to death, so I was upset as well when EGM said that Seiken Densetsu 3 was coming over and it didn't happen. I also remember that the screenshots showed a rabite fighting with your team. I guess they scrapped that aspect and used it later for Legend of Mana.

If I was a company and I had a choice between two games, I would pick the one that is guaranteed to sell millions, not the game that would sell a measly 50k copies. But you know, Square Enix earned so much profit off Kingdom Hearts 2 that they could at least please their fans by funding localization for Front Mission 5. But nooooo.....

Perhaps the sales figures of Front Mission 4 figure into the mix. In comparison, FM4 is worse than KH1. Just admit it. The battles were tediously long, the two "story arcs" were chopped up severely, and I personally didn't feel a connection between the two main characters. And the graphics, please, looks like PSX. However, this doesn't necessarily mean one game's precursor is a foreshadowing of the next installment. FM5 looks immensely better than FM4. And since the whole video game industry in NA caters to teens, what is better than KH2? Disney to boot. And sales for children, I bet.

I didn't know FM5 was not due to NA at all. That really blows.

On topic, if someone can blame something or other for a game not coming to the US, they'll do it. =(

I would love to play Front Mission 5, but unfortuantely, it probably won't see an english release. If only there was still a functioning Japanese torrent to be found.

As for not getting a game because of another, you can't really blame companies since they are after all in the business to make money, so you can't expect them to favor the release of relatively obscure games over cashcows like Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy.

It's a shame companies are in business to make money, not please a select few.

Anyone know what the final sales numbers on FM4 were anyway? It was such a great game too, a shame it had to do so poorly.
