Upcoming Anime Series: Summer 2006 Edition

Shamelessly stolen from ADTRW yet again because I'm a lazy bastard.

This won't help at all, since out of the last two seasons the best shows were the ones I knew the least about, but I'm doing it anyway.

Serious
06/16 Flag - Drama involving a female war photographer. Directed by Ryousuke Takahashi.
This is on pay-per-view only, so maybe we'll never see it.
"In 20xx, a civil war broke out in a small country in Asia is getting hard in spite of dispatch of UN forces. But a picture taken by accident in the battle field accelerates the peace process. It is a picture of a flag. Although they are enemies, they cooperate together to fly it in a sanctuary, and the flag becomes the symbol of the peace. However, just before the peace agreement is achieved, the flag is robbed by an armed extremist group in order to obstruct the truce. UN decides to send SDC (Special Development Command) and a cameraman to record their activities. The cameraman is Shirasu Saeko. She is the cameraman who took the picture of the flag. At first they think the mission is easy because they wear latest armed suits, HAVWC (High Agility Versatile Weapon Carrier), but they get in trouble by unexpected attacks."

07/02 Taiyou no Mukushiroku Special - Japan's Collapse - An earthquake physically splits Japan in two through Tokyo. The result? Drama! Also patriotism!
(This is a two-part special, with the second part on 7/27)

07/02 Kemonozume Sakaba - A man and a women fall in love. The man is secretly a monster hunter. The woman is secretly a monster!
"Absurd and stylish action which a huge monster riots and is unfolded the surroundings, making full use of a sword, a gun, robot arms, etc. is also a highlight. The appearance of the stimulative entertainment which is not until now!"

07/02 Chevalier d'Eon Special - See below.
07/02 Project BLUE Earth SOS - Based on the art of a famous guy named Shigeru Komatsuzaki (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ency...e.php?id=54347). CG aliens invade and people fight them excitingly. Features lots of CG models of airplanes on the website.
(Wasn't Penny Carter the girl in Inspector Gadget? Anyway, it's not as bad as this name: http://www.projectblue.jp/character/03.php)

07/03 Coyote Ragtime Show - ufotable heads for the American market with a show named suspiciously like that other one that began with C and had a music genre in its name. Will it have the same animation quality as Futalt, without the other stuff?
(Trailer: http://www.ufotable.net/coyote/pv/COYOTE_PV_vol002.wmv. Also, the website navigation's all in English)

07/05 Governmental Crime Investigation Agent Zaizen Joutarou - This guy named Zaizen Joutarou investigates governmental corruption, apparently with a gun.
"With extralegal authority and original mobility, Zaizen rouses the iron hammer of justice in the sanctuary which can break in neither the police nor criminal investigation!!"

07/09 Welcome to NHK! - The hikikomori action epic for the modern age!
(Animation: Studio GONZO, director: the Keroro Gunsou guy, OP/ED: ROUND TABLE and Kenji Otsuki, fansubs: possibly Triad, failing that S.ADTRW)

07/26 Innocent Venus - In the future, global warming and a lot of hurricanes will destroy the world and cause totalitarians to take over Japan. The main characters escape from the Special Forces and a bunch of robot fights result, I think.
07/29 Night Head Genesis - "Night Head Genesis is based on a Japanese tv show that aired in '92. It's about two psychic brothers who escape from a science facility that had them locked up 15 years for having strong psychic abilities."
(Night Head is the other 90% of the brain you don't use)
08/19 Le Chevalier d'Eon - ANN article

Moé
06/29 Binbou Shimai Monogatari http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/binboushimai/ - Plotless heartwarming "story of poor girls". Art is a ripoff of Kamichu, so maybe some brilliance will leak out? Kotonoha is doing the manga.
07/01 Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z
07/01 Fairy Musketeers Akazukin - A little kid goes to an alternate world and has fairy tale adventures about shooting things.
07/01 Tsuyokiss - Dating game adaption with the surprise twist that all the girls are tsundere*. Apparently this is exciting to the sort of people who get excited about these things, so if you're one of them look out for it.
07/02 Zero no Tsukaima - A witch summons the ordinary-student main character as her familiar. No further plot up yet.
07/08 Tonagra! - romantic comedy harem et cetera
07/11 Chokotto Sister - One of those romantic comedy things again, but I thought the manga was actually good.
07/21 UFO Princess Walküre - You'd think they'd stop making these.
(Pay-per-view showing of the OVA)

Uncategorized
06/17 Dai Mahou Touge 3&4 - This was that comedy OVA about being attacked by vegetables or something wasn't it
06/29 Honey & Clover II
07/01 Gakuen Heaven - Haha.
07/01 Mamotte! Lollipop - Can't find a plot description (or even a website), but it's extremely shoujo.
07/03 Wa*Wa*Wappichan - Kids' show.
07/03 Bokura ga Ita (We Were There) - There is a picture of a surf bum on the website and not much else.
07/04 Muteki Kanbanmusume/Noodle Fighter Miki
07/08 Koi suru Tenshi Angelique ~Kokoro no mezameru Toki~ - young girl saves the universe accompanied by long-haired beautiful men holding flowers et cetera
08/01 Pocoyo - Another kids' show
08/?? Gag Manga Biyori 2

Movies
06/17 Death Note - Live-action movie
07/01 Deep Imagination Souzousuru Idenshitachi - I don't understand Studio 4C's website. Sorry.
07/10 http://www.cwfilms.jp/hoshizora/ Hoshizora KISEKI - Nobody translated their last artsy film, so no hope for this one. It's about space, though.
07/29 Studio Ghibli - Tales from Earthsea
Also, the Gunbuster movie and Makoto Shinkai's new film might come out this summer, but probably won't until autumn.

OVAs
08/25 Aim for the Top! 2 Diebuster 6 - More fighting. Possibly an ending, but possibly a GAINAX ending.
07/14 Mobile Suit Gundam SEED CE 73 - Stargazer - :cawg:

* an anime character who acts initially mean, but then becomes cute and soft when you penetrate her outer shell (figuratively)

I expect to see new threads for at least Honey and Clover II, Welcome to NHK, Zero no Tsukaima. Don't disappoint me!

Those are the series I'm planning to watch, but then again I paid no attention to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya when it was first mentioned last season, and now it's among my top rated shows.

Welcome to the NHK, Chokotto Sister and Honey and Clover II are the only shows worth watching. NHK and Chokotto Sister should be almost guarenteed laughs aplenty. I can't really say anything about Honey and Clover II except that I know that the first season was popular.

I might just watch Powerpuff Girls Z for a good session of WHAT THE FUCK AM I DOING TO MYSELF.

How ya doing, buddy?

Flag seems to be grabbing my attention ATM (probably in part that its the most decriptive that I just want moar). I believe Initial D Fourth Stage was PPV as well but was subbed by various groups so I think that there IS hope in seeing this (like everything else that is licenced, ect ) .

The only other shows that seems interesting is Welcome to NHK!, the desciption is almost oxymoronic.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I might look into Project Blue, Coyote, Innocent Venus and Night Head Genesis, but either way it's all just to tide me over until Le Chevalier d'Eon and next year's Seirei no Moribito start.

Just listening to the intro for the Tales from Earthsea flash...sounds like another awesome score, but not from Hishashi...this seems to be a "new" guy, but I like it.

Needs moar romantic comedy! MOAR!

I'm definitely planning on watching Honey and Clover II, since the first season was simply amazing. Hopefully, it'll still be as charming and Honey and Clover-esque as before! I'm still not sure if I want to watch it as it comes out or wait a little longer so I don't have to wait days between each episode.

Flag also sounds intriguing, judging from the description. The site looks pretty neat as well, although I can't understand half of what's there.

I clicked on the Gakuen Heaven link. Boys Love Hyper?

Tales of Earthsea could be interesting, although Ged/Sparrowhawk looks a lot older than I've seen him in other adaptations. I haven't read more than a couple chapters of the actual books though, so maybe he was originally meant to be older. This is Ghibli, so I'm sure it'll be worth watching.

Welcome to the NHK is pure awesomeness. I started watching it after BigBlah posted the OP and ED in his journal, and it definitely shows that it's the same director as Keroro Gunsou.

I've gotten kinda out of the 'new anime' in the last year or so, but there's a few in there that I'm looking forward to (mostly because of their connections to old anime/manga interests, but whatever).

- Night Head Genesis::
I actually liked Sci-Fi Harry, which was written as something of a prequel to George Iida's quite popular "Night Head" live-action series and movie, which was very similar to the X-Files (but came out before that show). Since I liked SFH, I'm thinking that I'll be interested in this, although I'm pretty cloudy on how the two are connected.

- Koi suru Tenshi Angelique/ANGELIQUE::
Such a silly, childish excuse for a series, based on a dating sim. Frankly, I'm suprised this plotless drivel hasn't been brought over yet, considering it's popularity in the Japan.
But..... I can't help loving the character designs for the boys!!! Gah, whenever my girliness surfaces, it's in the most annoying ways >_<. So yeah, I'm looking forward to this.

- Death Note movies::
Kind of self-explainatory. I love the manga, therefore, I want to see the live-action version. And the anime, whenever they get around to it.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Welcome to the NHK!, Night Head Genesis, Chokotto Sister, Innocent Venus, and Zero no Tsukaima are on my watch list. I usually watch a few episodes of everything I'm interested in before deciding what to stick with. I've dropped Coyote Ragtime Show, and Tsuyokiss. They're too generic and stupid for me to continue watching them.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I'd probably enjoy a few good animes for the summer.

Honey and Clover 2 - The first episode was a huge recap but fun to see . Just a reminder for everyone who don't remember what happened in the first season. For me, it didn't seem like it was too long since i started the first part around febuary 2k6. Definately a must see.

Gintama - They fansubbers are slackin but i've seen 1-4 subbed. I want MORE.

Rockman EXE. BEAST+ - its short.Only 9 mins but it still holds alot of interest for EXE fans.

The rest are ok. Naruto and Bleach suck right now with fillers. This fall will have the best animes coming out . Busuo Renkin,Death Note and D.Grayman.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I downloaded Noodle Fighter Miki since it was the first 01 episode I saw for a while, and with a name like that, it's probably humorous I figure, like Yakitate Japan or something. Going to watch it in detail later, but skimming through various scenes, it looks pretty humorous so far.

Also more people should watch Gintama, after reading Chato's post above. It's hilarious!

I've checked out Noodle Fighter Miki. Its a must see and probably 2nd to Gintama in comedy. Supposedly another anime im definately watching is Nighthead only because of its genre and the animation kinda takes it back to the good ol days of anime (in the 90's that is)

I've seen a few screens from the Death Note Live Action, and read a short review about it. I just recently started the manga as well, so I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. Coyote Ragtime Show also seems interesting from what I've managed to learn from various anime blogs I've read.

Reading recent posts on the closed thread
http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/an...atching-3.html

regarding Busuo Renkin, I really wonder what constitutes the negative reviews on it. I haven't bothered to read it, and if it's not worth my time, I won't, but I've thoroughly enjoyed reading all of Kenshin and got a kick out of the growth of Watsuki's style, which is clearly shown in Busuo Renkin. Is it the storyline that makes it sucky or that when compared to Kenshin it just blows?

For me the story just wasn't interesting enough. It was a while since I last read it (stopped at vol 2) but I just didn't bother to continue on, I guess there was nothing really special about it. The characters weren't that interesting as well. If you're gonna compare the storyline with Kenshin then I'd suggest you don't start at all....or maybe you can give the anime a try if you like it.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
