Oh, sorry, that's not what I meant at all, lol. I meant that my tastes are so extremely off-balance that I even like bands as pathetic (and I'll freely admit that they are, lol) as Dragonforce & Sonata Arctica.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Bleh, I really can't stand either of those bands.

I can scarcely wait 'til next fall. There's no good concerts right now, but this autumn, there are tons of bands. It costs me over $100 in tickets, but then again, most of them are overpriced... but, I'll still go. Blind Guardian, Testament, Helloween, Moonspell... oh yeah.
Never saw Testament live either. But I suspect that they slay.

Everyone, everyone. This thread is now about Mercenary's The Hours That Remain.

Anyone who likes In Flames (or previous Mercenary) NEEDS this. Check the Music Exposure Club thread.

I actually picked that mercenary album off of the Music Exposure club yesterday. I jump on anything labled metal in there. I'm liking this new one so far, i haven't heard enough to really form a solid opinion yet though.

No i was talking about Sonata Arctica, but that is a fantastic album, and the discussion could spread to that, seeing as how they're all involving two of the same musicians (not Sonata Arctica)

Have you seen G3 live in Tokyo? John puts on a prime performance.

Even though I like John Petrucci a good deal more than Yngwie Malmsteen, who is a real asshole, I prefer the G3 Live in Denver to the Tokyo concert. This is mostly because of Steve Vai's blistering set in Denver versus his comparatively lacklustre Tokyo outing.

Last night I saw Mastodon, Children of Bodom, Lamb Of God and Slayer. I know no one who frequents this thread likes Slayer, so however great I think their set was, I'll skip over it to what I though was the other highlight of the show, Mastodon. Besides the fact that they are a very tight live act, they can really put on a great show. They were just fun to watch.

Also, possibly aided by how the arena was a ganja hotbox, their material really picked up a heavier, sludgier sound than the albums, of which I am also a fan. Anyone else a fan of Mastodon or catch this tour?

I'm a fan of Mastodon. I really love their cover art and their music is fucking awesome. I've been thinking about that tour, as well as the Sounds of the Underground (mostly for Behemoth and Gwar) and the tour with Hypocrisy/Fear Facorty/Suffocation/Decapitated looks pretty sweet. Hmm...which one to go to...

Definitely. I'm much more of a fan of Dead or Dreaming than Buried in Oblivion, so I'm looking forward to the new album to see more of a return to the melodic stuff.

So Disarmonia Mundi's new album was kind of a disappointment. It's got a lot more of a Figure Number Five feel to it, mostly because of the studio effects they added to it. The vocals (even the death vocs) are distorted enough to be annoying, and even though it's still more of a technical edge than some of Soilwork's recent stuff, it's obvious that the loss of so many band members hurt them when it came time to write the material.

I can safely say that you should check out the latter tour with Hypocrisy. Behemoth is... pretty lack-luster though Gwar, well, they put on one of the best shows known to metal fans. But between Hypocrisy, FF, and Decapitated, you're most likely going to enjoy yourself a ton more. Not only do they all put on an amazing show, but the fans are incredible. Something Mastodon and Behemoth lack, in my opinion.

Yeah I might go to the Hypocrisy tour. I've only seen Hypocrisy once live and I'm a fan of all the bands on that bill. I'm a fan of all the bands on the Unholy Alliance as well but I've already seen CoB and Slayer twice as well as Mastodon at Ozzfest. Lamb of God I've seen live as well.

Yep, it actually led me to purchase Suspended Animation. <3 Damage Control. I can't say I really enjoyed the covers that they played though. I love all three guitarists but this concert wasn't exactly the sum of their talents.

I kind of like Slayer. Just haven't listened to them (or any metal at all, honestly) in a long, long time. Heh.

Well, the new The Mars Volta album, Amputechture, has been leaked. It is definitely not a metal album, but there are some elements of metal in a few songs, so I'll talk about it here. The leak quality is actually quite good this time, so I don't feel like I'm doing the band wrong by listening to it. I just have a few things to say about the album. Omar has matured significantly as a producer. However, I think he needs to put tighter reigns on Cedric, whose vocals almost mar the album in some places. The beginning of the album is excellent, the middle is quite good, and the end is weak...it was the same with Frances the Mute. Omar should take a cue from Rick Reuben, who produced their first album; I'll be damned if "Take the Veil, Cerpin Taxt" isn't the strongest finish to an album I've ever heard.

Anyway, if you're interested but can't seem to find a torrent for the album, send me a PM or IM or whatever. Just promise you'll buy the official release. =)

I enjoy Slayer. Definitely enjoy their older material, though they have some OK songs on their newer stuff.

I got the new All That Remains CD and their first one. I really enjoy their first CD, not too much metalcore there however the new one is very solid. Nothing mindblowing and if you enjoy good metalcore, you would enjoy it. Otherwise it won't change your mind.

How ya doing, buddy?
