(On a side note, I did love seeing Steve Carell and hearing Stephen Colbert. Steve looked like a drag queen. LOL). There's nowhere I can't reach.

I'm probably going to say that I'm glad Wallace and Gromit one the best animation- I was totally rooting for it the whole way. I love Ghibli and I love Burton... but after having to do a claymation short as a final project in school once, I give those people /so much respect/ because that is the most incredibly tedious thing you can imagine. It totally pwns other forms of animation, I believe.
Corpse Bride was awesome, too for its stop animation... but they appeared to have a lot of shortcuts (ingenious shortcuts, but shortcuts nonetheless) to get the fluid animation they did. Aardman Animations totally deserved every bit of that award, in my opinion. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
And when it comes to George Clooney winning an award, then I really don't know what's going on, anyway. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
But can you really take any of these awards seriously? They gave an Oscar to "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp". An Oscar. To that. I regarded the Academy Awards as a sham anyway, but that just sealed the deal. I mean, what the fuck? I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
a few surprises for us... and then some awards that weren't so much the surprise.
Best Lead Actress... no surprise. Would have loved to have seen Felicity Huffman get it though. Best Lead Actor... no surprise. If he lost that I would have like for David Strathairn to have won. Best Motion Picture... surprised. With all the talk and nominations and other awards... it was "the movie". I would have taken anything else to win so I could stop hearing about Brokeback... *crap* work summons... I have more thoughts on the awards though... What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I'll be honest, I only really watched it for Jon Stewart and uh. jake gyllenhaal (he's just too cute). And, you know, even despite that, I still held higher expectations for the award givings. I. Ugh. Still not really over "It's hard out here for a pimp". I remember when they won, I was talking to one of my friends who also was watching it, an I think we both had a cardiac arrest for a moment. It was just. I. Hm. Bad.. song... Oscar... I think I'll stay in denial as a means to keep my brain from popping like a pimple. I was also really, really surprised about Crash winning best motion picture. To be honest, before last night, I had never even heard of Crash. And everyone was just predicting BBM to win, even I was. But at least ang lee won best director.

hmm, I was REALLY disappointed in a lot of the choices. Brokeback mountain did NOT deserve to win over John Williams in the category for best score. It was really cool getting to see Ichzak play the medly though.
Also, i loved Wallice and Gromit, but Miyazaki is SO much better and I think he should have walked away with best animated picture. But I have to agree, "It's hard out here for a pimp" even being nominated for best song is almost offensive. That is not the type of material that should be in the Oscars. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I'm very pleased with the results this year. I had seen most of the nominated movies beforehand, so I kind of knew who was going to win what.
Here's how it goes. There was a huge load of quality movies this time, and when they all got nominated, this kinda thing happens. Out of sheer propability, almost every one of those movies won something, except for A History of Violence and Good Night, and Good Luck. Someone has to lose by a hair when the competition's this tough. Best film score (for Brokeback Mountain) and best animated feature film were disastrous. Brokeback Mountain, while being an excellent movie, had annoying music with overly repeated themes. The Wallace & Gromit full-length movie doesn't even hold a candle towards the mediocre Corpse Bride, even less towards the magnificent Howl's Moving Castle. A year of consent, love for intellectual movies that have something to say. Is this the seventies. :( And a strong expressing of opinions: Unarguably the best foreign language film, a Palestinian movie called Paradise Now didn't win. Think about that. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
and best song.. I agree with that. Don't those white people know? They're just gonna encourage them.. ![]() There's nowhere I can't reach. |

I didn't watch the awards, as usual. I heard that Crash won Best Picture. Yay. It was a good film. Also, I agree with whoever wrote about biopics being in their own category - the Oscars would be better if the bio pics were kept separate from the fictional dramas.

The Oscars suck every year, but this year is different. I'm happy that W&G won for best animated movie. I believe this movie is underrated, and it's the best animated movie I've seen in many sad long years : /
Let's hope Aardman Animations continue this trend. They look like the next Pixar right now. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I won't even go into the travesty that was a 15-minute guitar riff winning instead of a masterfully done, complex orchestral score (Geisha). I knew it would happen - I never watch the awards anymore - but it's still a joke.

I had it on in the background, but did someone mess up and reveal the winner too early?

I'm glad Crash won, the hype surrounding Brokeback Mountain was way too big (it's just a love story that has been told before people, it's not that special because two guys are getting it on). Ang Lee did deserve his oscar though.
I was shocked that they give best documentary to a movie about pinguins of all things. Enron should have won. And Reese Witherspoon for best actress? Please, she's one of the most annoying people in Hollywood. I'm also disapponted in the best foreign film, since the best one (l'Enfant) wasn't even nominated. I was hoping for Paradise Now How ya doing, buddy? |

Is it just me, or did everyone at the Oscars have a stick up their ass? I thought Jon Stewart was pretty damn funny. Of course Ben Stiller gets more laughs dancing around the stage like an imbecile. God I hate hollywood.

I couldn't agree more. Santaolalla is the luckiest man in Hollywood, and he now has more Oscars than Bernard Hermann, Alex North, Ennio Morricone, and Danny Elfman combined. He's also now tied with Goldsmith, Bernstein, and Delerue. Travesty, I say! I was speaking idiomatically.

http://imdb.com/title/tt0062362/fullcredits That's like Danny Elfman winning an Oscar for "Best Score" for the 10 mins of music he wrote for Chicago. How ya doing, buddy?

I enjoyed it over all and was also glad brokeback didn't win. Besides all the hype for the movie. It wasn't an incredible film you have to look past the "gay relationship portrayel that hasn't been done before" idea and determine if it is an incredible and profound enough movie to win the best picture of the year. That's my take on it. I also was amused/angered how on two occasions people who won an award with someone else were cut off from making their speech after the first person talked. They just turned the mic off and cued the music. I felt bad for them and the second time it happened you could see actors all in the front section pointing and angry that that happened. Poor people.

All I've got to say on the matter is that I was quite glad to see Wallace & Gromit win the animated feature award. It's just so funny and family-friendly.
