Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu

In anger and a panic that lead to watching anime then more anger, I have found these boards to lack Hare and Guu here.Note: There was one thread here in the Video Requests.
ジャングルはいつもハレのちグゥ
Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu (created by Renjuro Kindaichi), which translates to "The Jungle was Always Nice then Along Came Guu," or shortened to "Hare+Guu," is a wonderful series brought to us by an-entertainment, Bang-Zoom Entertainment, and Funimation. There have been two OVAs released, "Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu Deluxe" and "Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu Final."

You could say Guu has a split personality.
What is it?
The surreal and outlandish comedy Haré+Guu introduces us to 10 year old Haré, a nice little boy who lives with his free-spirited young mother, Weda, in a small, contemporary jungle village. Haré's peaceful daily routine of school, video games, and housework is irrevocably altered when Weda adopts a seemingly innocent and charming little orphan girl named Guu.

After a fun first evening, Haré is shocked the next morning to find that Guu has dropped her pretense of sweetness to reveal her true mysterious and insidious nature. Guu, in fact, seems to be a mind-reading alien being that eats anything and has another entire dimension of off-kilter humans and bizarre animals living in her stomach! And her sole reason for existence is driving Haré crazy by constantly pointing out all of his character flaws and neurosis, wreaking havoc on time and space, and being an utter nuisance in the way that only a super-strong, short tempered, magic using and vaguely unsettling young girl of indeterminate age, origin and physical composition can be.

Created in 1997 by female manga artist Renjuro Kindaichi, the Haré+Guu manga serial continues to headline the monthly Japanese Shonen GanGan magazine. In April 2001, the comic was adapted into a television series that spanned 26 broadcast episodes and two made-for-home-video "OAV" series, all produced by the Shin'ei Doga production studio best known for the international smash hit anime comedy Crayon Shin-chan, and directed by Tsutomu Mizushima (Crayon Shin-chan, Genshiken TV, XXXholic.)
I've found myself laughing at this anime as much as I did watching Azumanga Daioh. They've found ways to make the recurring themes work well. I'm defenately looking forward to finishing this box set and adding it to my shelf of fame.

The Episode Names are reported to be as follows:
01. Begining Beginning / Start! Start!
02. Afternoon Nap Guu Guu / Siesta Guu Guu
03. Go With Chest Hair!
04. Good Morning Kiss / Morning Smooch
05. The Doctor

Ah some Guu love. Everyone should watch this series. And although I'd say support the official releases I'm a little pissed at Funimation for botching up the ED song for Guu. Funimation is the only company I've seen that has issues getting music for shows. However that's not going to prevent me from supporting them all the way.

In the meantime if you're poor I still highly recommend torrenting the series. Perhaps later when you have money you can get it. I'd rather you watch it and not pay than not watch it at all. Let's just call it Lukage and Acer invited you over to watch Guu via the Internet.

Anyway, it's available over at boxtorrents:

Guu series
Guu Deluxe OVA
Guu Final OVA

Er, I'll add the links when boxtorrents comes back up.

In the meantime you can PM me and I can provide you with the series myself.

Since I have a plethora of DVD-Rs and most of you have mailing addresses.....

But yes, when I noted that my primary sources are unavailable, I was referring to boxtorrents being down. Seems that they reopened signups (I got in a few weeks ago) for the masses.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Added the links to boxtorrents now since it just came back up. Enjoy! =D

If you can't do torrents or if it's unavailable again please PM me. I can provide Guu. =)

Guu is the absolute mindfuck of total absurdity. It's really the ULTIMATE thing in absurd, over the top comedy...
I love the series to pieces. See it. Love it. And tell me what kind of drugs the guys who made it had in their tapwater. I want some of it. Now.

After watching the show last night (I'm simply watching the DVDs as they're being released), I'd like to say the best episode thus far has been #8, "Angry Yamada" where
Spoiler:
Hare meets the suicidal girl inside of Guu after Guu and Gupta get into a fight

This thread fails due to Naruto.

No, but seriously, Guu is by far one of the best things ever, transending all forms of media and all things good. It is an essential part of our existance and all people should watch and recognize this.

I remember Acer told me about this while I was completely lit a few months ago and I decided to download it and give it a spin.

Best. Series. Ever.

If you threw Guu in the air, it would turn into sunshine.

I saw a few episodes of "Final," and I did not enjoy it >< Was rather un-funny except for a few instances with Guu. Sure, it's the third series essentially (after regular, then Deluxe), but I was confused and didn't enjoy it. Even if I made sense of the backstory more than I did, it wouldn't help things...

Dunno what folks see in the series to be honest =(

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
Hey, maybe you should try that thing Chie was talking about.

Old Jul 6, 2006, 08:48 AM #15 of 25
Gechmir, it sort of helps to get familiar with the characters and scenarios. Seriously. If you don't give Guu that honest chance then I don't know what you're doing watching anime to begin with. That's like starting on the third season of a series and saying it sucks because you can't follow anything. Sure, you can do that to some series and maybe Guu isn't your kind of humor but not giving Guu a fair chance would really make me sad.

If you'd like to watch Guu then give the torrent of the original tv series a go or if you suck with torrents then give me a PM and I can arrange direct downloads for you. I'm dead serious here.

I'm saying that the humor wasn't my thing =( Guu in herself was "meh". Never found myself beyond a slight smirk throughout the four or so eps I dragged myself through~

I've come in to the middle of lengthy series and gotten hooked on it as a result. I can handle confusion in such things. But I just don't see why folks praise it as so funny when I didn't even get a chuckle out of what I saw... =\

I've been watching anime since I was five or so starting with Robotech and what-not. I'm 21 now and have been around the block a few times as far as anime goes ;p I gave it an honest chance, and comparing it to all other anime I've seen, I find nothing special in it. So I passed it up.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
Hey, maybe you should try that thing Chie was talking about.

Old Jul 6, 2006, 12:54 PM #17 of 25
Look, all I'm saying is please start at the beginning. That will definitely make it better. A lot of the jokes in the OVAs are are built off of stuff from the TV series. For Guu you are going about it wrong. Start at the beginning. Pretty please with cherries and sunshine on top. Sunshine!

Also thanks yaluen, I'm downloading episode one from kyozoku. After talking with him he's also planning on altering the japanese audio track from the dvd rip to use the original Guu ED song while leaving the english audio track intact. An most excellent compromise indeed. I'll be sure to get stuff from him in the future. =)

You can grab Guu and Eureka seveN dvd rips from kyozoku at kyozoku @ irc.chatsociety.net
Just !list and you can find his trigger which will probably be "/ctcp Kyozoku Kyo Encodes".

Seriously, what a great guy. =)

Spoiler:
I was under the impression that the Final OVA would be the... final OVA. It would be cool if another came out though.

I agree that final didn't have the greatest jokes, but it had a pretty sweet ending theme.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Holy shit, guys, use spoiler tags. There are hopefully new people who want to watch this show. Please use spoiler tags.

Spoiler:
I'm fairly confident there will be another OVA series. That's what the ending of Final eludes to anyway.

Gah...I'll have to post in tech support here to try to figure it out. I failed and succeeded at the same time. Lets just say that if you full screen this 400MB file, you have a very nice, high-quality copy of the first DVD. Nevermind the order of the chapters (the openings and closings). Some sync issues seem to pop up here and there with it.

Either way, as my first test, I technically have both audio tracks and both subtitles. Try, try again!

(Note: I want to do it now simply so you guys can hear how awesome Guu sounds in English)

Well BestBuy released the fourth DVD of the series today. To my dismay, my store (which really SUCKS) is not going to carry the DVDs any more. It looks like I'll have to download the torrents to make some new MKVs.
