Suspicious confirm window
I have been copying files from the hard disk to Flash disks and external hard drives and I noticed this message:
![]() While it may not look harmful, I'm quite suspicious about it since this message appears everytime I press "Yes" and a lot of files that I copy seem to be having such extra information. But this only happens while copying one disk to a different disk not on the same volume. I have already scanned these files for viruses and there has been no report of an infection. Any idea what this may be? Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
I think they're extra file attributes or NTFS data to do with the file, explaining why it only occurs when copying to a different volume.
That's what I've always considered them either way. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Generally, you see it copying to Flash drives because they use FAT (I believe it's FAT and not FAT32, but I'm not positive off the top of my head) partitioning (for compatibility with Win 98 and probably related to their typical compatibility with Mac computers). It's perfectly safe just to click "yes to all" and be done with it.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Flash drives use FAT File System, indeed. I believe the lost data is no biggie, so Yes to All.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

If you still feel like it's an issue, you can disable any dandy NTFS stuff (encryption, compression) and try to see if the message keeps appearing.
I was speaking idiomatically. Vibrate

Ah, I see. Yes, I actually saw that Flash drives are FAT.
I thought there was something fishy about it. I'm relieved. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
