IGN Insider - Worth it?
I have been thinking about subscribing, but would like to hear from some of you who might already have joined in the past. What do you exactly get for the money?
That said, since I have at least one magazine to resubscribe to that you can get for free with the $19.95 annual cost, I might do so and be out nothing as a result. Still, I am also considering putting that $20 to buying a game instead. Any recommendations?! ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. |
you get guides and bigger resolution trailers. Some articles are also insider. Oh and there are insider trailers.
but then guides->gamefaqs.com trailers->gametrailers.com so no it's not worth it. no homo |
Though the guides are graphical in nature right?
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
This was posted elsewhere, but:

I have it, I wouldn't say it is WORTH IT. Some of the guides and video tips can be useful, and I really like some of the high resolution content. If you go to IGN a lot, it's a better deal. Although there are a few Insider exclusives that are good like Head-to-Head, and maybe Masterbit Theater; besides a lame article every week, that is really all you get. If you like to download videos like I do, I really subscribe just for that, because they certainly have a better variety of gameplay clips than I can find anywhere else for free.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
I use it primarily for the high-res videos, because the ones they use in 320x228 or whatever really don't cut it for me in terms of taking impressions of games.
I also use it for the system comparison stuff they were doing as insider exclusives. Without it, I wouldn't have known that the gamecube and PS2 versions of Chaos Theory don't even have the true versions of the maps, much less the effects and visual appeal of the xbox and PC versions. I never use the guides, and I might occasionally use one of the wallpapers they put up, but mostly it's for the video reviews and HD previews. Although they've got a promo deal running right now so that when you subscribe, you get a subscription to two magazines for a year. They have things like Stuff and Maxim, as well as Computer Gaming World and Electronic Gaming Monthly, so it's a pretty cool deal if you're interested in trying it out for a year or so. Thing is, when I subscribed, I never did see a page that let me choose which magazines to subscribe to, so I had to email IGN support and have them sign me up. Plus, the service will automatically withdraw from your account annually unless you cancel it yourself, so there are definitely some annoying things about the service. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Thanks guys!
![]() In all honesty, I don't even go to IGN all that often, just trying to find a one-stop source (Free or Pay, doesn't matter) to take over for the 5-6 different gaming magazines I am already subscribed to and will need to renew this year... Oh well, I'll continue my search for now. Not in a hurry and just got a free EGM subscription a few days ago. Maybe that'll tie me over until I find one uber Magazine or website. ![]() FELIPE NO |
The only gaming site worth subscribing to is Gamespot. They always have cool HD trailers, and tons of exclusive stuff. Also, Live E3 video coverage every year.

I don't think that subscribing to any of the gaming sites is worth the money spent. The extra content that they give doesn't justify to $$$. Also, just use Firefox with Adblock to get rid of the ads.

Seriously, why would anyone want to subscribe to these kinds of sites? This is the Internet. Everything can be found for free. The only thing I am subscribed to is a fast direct download website for anime and thats only $10.
Btw, GameSpot, GameTrailers, and GameFAQs are all that is needed for your gaming needs. Most amazing jew boots |

Who cares, Gamespot offers enough good stuff with it's subscription anyway. Plus it costs as much as any game magazine, just more updates.

I'd go with gamespot if i were you, gamespot's E3 coverage alone is worth the annual fee.. Lots of my friends have subscriptions, i get the videos from them, and they're awesome as hell.

You can actually get Insider for free. I did lol!
If you post on their forums, and another user likes you or something, (basically be a good user, and a regular) then you might get "adopted" (thats what IGN calls it) and it basically gives you IGN Insider for a month, or 2, or even a whole year - depending if the other person is willing to pay for your subscription for a whole year. (a wonderful user bought me a years worth of Insider, just in-time for E3, that was a year ago though haha) Anyway, I think it's worth it, if you're just gonna buy a month or 2 of Insider just for E3 (all that coverage) but if no E3 around then... I dunno. Jam it back in, in the dark.

Also, I've subscribed to both Gamespot and IGN. There's not too much of a difference in the content, and they each have their faults. Both give you live feeds to E3 press conferences and stuff. However, IGN seems to do better than Gamespot in providing high quality videos, so I'm currently an Insider. Really though, you can be well off getting news from both sites for free. There's nowhere I can't reach.

I'm in the IGN Founders Club, which give me access to other sites too, like FilePlanet Subscriber. I love it. Most amazing jew boots ![]() |
I'm liking that they actually have 1600x1200 sizes here. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

I've always been a GameSpot whore, and I've found that paying the money simply to not have to deal with the massive floodstorm of advertisements is a really great deal. It makes the site feel a lot cleaner.
Also, as other people pointed out, IGN's ad disabling thing is a load of bullshit. It's not worth any amount of money to only get the option unlocked to move through 100 menus and disable MOST of the ads. I was speaking idiomatically. |
