Shouldn't the LCD screens be product tested, anyway? Or, I suppose it would be too daunting to inspect every single handheld under different colors to see if any dead pixels exist. I wouldn't know, but I still think there should be more focus on searching for dead pixels.

anyone know if these have made it to Canada yet, or are they still floating around somewhere?

I think the main difference, why Nintendo still has a better reputation than Sony or Microsoft, is the customer support they give AFTER the hardware fails.
Nintendo will pay for shipping and repair if you're still under warranty, and this covers even 1 dead/stuck pixel. Try doing that with Sony. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I have; 3 times in fact with my PSP. They too paid for shipping and repair. The only annoyance was that Sony forced Gamestop to refuse exhanging any handhelds with dead pixels, and thus I had to ship it to them directly (enduring a week's wait each time). I'm hoping Nintendo won't be as tight-assed, and that I'll simply be given another DS Lite as soon as I take it in. Assuming they have any extra Lites left, anyway.
Oh, and all things considered, Castlevania DoS looks quite spectacular under the brightest setting. It seems the battery drains much faster than what was previously reported, though; I'm already showing a red light. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
My original PS2 sounded like a vacuum cleaner. I returned it, within a day it was replaced. Then I returned my PS2 controller after I noticed it had something wrong with the right analog stick (which I never used, actually, and was only a minor issue) and it was "tested." And then replaced without any questions asked. I do suppose it depends on your location, though. Hell, do you know what the Xbox Technical Support in New Zealand links you to? MEXICO. I was speaking with a fucking mexican which I could barely understand while trying to resolve a dvd-rom issue. I would consider Nintendo and Sony about equal in my area. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Now this is interesting. According to some posters at CAG, when calling Nintendo for a replacement DS, they don't make you send in your old one first. What they do instead is send you the replacement DS Lite, along with a box for you to put in your old (pixel'd) DS. If you don't send back your old DS, they just charge your credit card.
This is a much better method than Sony's, which I was forced to send my PSP first. At least with Nintendo's way I can still enjoy playing the DS until the non-pixelated one comes in. I'm also told it takes less than a week for the replacement DS to ship. This round goes to Nintendo. Still, it'd be much quicker if the GS will exchange my Lite with a new one tommorow. If that happens, I'll be sure to try out the system inside my car before driving off (something I should've done the first time). This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Eh, that isn't a new approach. Dell does this with their monitors if you find something wrong with them too. I do agree that it's much better than making you go without your TV/MONITOR/WHATEVER for "X" time, though. It should be made into the standard for all companies.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Perhaps it was my usual pessimism, but I was almost certain I was going to get short-changed today, but things went off without a hitch. The GS clerk confirmed the dead pixel and gave me a fresh new Lite. I went to my car and inspected it thoroughly before driving off, and everything checked out.
So now I can join in with everyone and confirm what an excellent handheld it is. The bright light can't get enough praise, especially with GBA games. It is true that the GBA cartridge sticking out is the one downside to this upgrade. The cartridge doesn't even fit properly, but appears slanted. I tried adjusting it, but a little tap was enough to freeze my GBA game. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
At any rate, I just got
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() - What we all do best - |
Just got home after showing my new DSlite off at my friend's house. Got the last one at the mall, no dead pixels or anything. This thing is gorgeous. The only problem I see with it is that it's so nice looking and light that I feel that I'm going to break it. I suppose that feeling will wear off in a few days, but man it's great looking.
Lol the guy at EB wanted me to sell my old DS. "lol no thanks" "but dude you'll save 70 dollars!" "Um I need my old DS to transfer wifi settings and it'll be good for multiplayer. I'm already set for inevitable DS Wii connectivity rapefest." "TRADE IN STUFF. OMG. I NEED YOUR STUFF FOR TRADING IN. RIGHT NOW." "lol k tell you what. I'm also gonna buy that DDR Mario Mix and extra pad and you can shove it." "loool okay. 200 bucks please. Warranty for dance pads?" "Fine." "215 bucks." "k here money byez" "TRADE IN STUFF ADOFIJCVJASDHRAKLJLLLLLL!!!11!!1" *runs* FELIPE NO |
Wiin! (sorry). I got mine at BestBuy (Yeah, Megalith was looking at more BIG SCREEN TVS and SUPER SOUND SYSTEMS). I really wonder about the warranty thingamajig I paid like $29 CDN for or something like that. From what I asked the dude (and I made this very clear so he doesn't like skimp over it) is that CAN I REPLACE the damn thing with another DSlite if something fucks up. He says yes, and its good for 2 years.
So was the Bestbuy thing a good thing or bad thing? I thought well...since it's somewhat new technology based off of the old DS basically, and me not ever have owned a portable gaming system, sure why not. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() - What we all do best - |
Holy SHIT. I have an adrenaline rush right now from playing Bomberman DS on my Lite. Isn't that pathetic.
Anyway, should I get some Hori screen protectors? I feel as if I owe it to my Lite to protect it. Because I know it'll eventually get scratches. Ouendan don't play itself, son. Spatula: HAHAHAHA, SISTER ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. |
If the screens are anything like the original DS' you probally won't need a screen protector, but it wouldn't hurt to pick some up if you happen to come across them cheap. I'm playing DS right now with a pencil for a stylus as I lost all of mine, no signs of scatches or anything, I used a screwdriver once too... I know I'm stupid
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Jesus christ dude. That is retarded.
Anyway. I only asked because parts of Ouendan are heavily based on the touchscreen, especially the spinners. Since I still play the game (mostly for fun, nothing serious) I'd still like to keep my Lite nice at the same time. I don't mind if it becomes scratched over time, considering the brightness levels won't ever make it a problem, but knowing they're there isn't the greatest feeling in the world. Hmm, remind me to pick up Advance Wars DS. I've been told it's pretty rad, but Gamespot wasn't much of a confirmation of this. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Gamespot doesn't like anything. Unless it's Tony Hawk 3! 10/10! Best game of this generation! Tony Hawk 3! I had to exchange my DS lite today, the touch screen got DOTS all over it outta nowhere, stuck pixels, EVERYWHERE. It was funky. I kept the replacement stylus, I'm such an Australian convict. NOW I HAVE THREE.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
can you send me some?
![]() Ok I got my pay check recently and will probally pick one of these up soon although I still need a new hard drive for my computer and Ikaruga for my Cube... It seems the more you earn the more you spend I was speaking idiomatically. |
![]() You got dots already? So just one day it just suddenly appeared? Hundreds of them like ice cream cones? So far no problems with "my" no wait, sorry, our 5 hour old DS lite. It's like a baby. A baby you want to choke. Oh wait. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() - What we all do best - |
FELIPE NO |
How do dots just appear on your screen? You should have taken a picture of it. Sounds interesting.
I like the DS Lite stylus, but I feel as if you need to press harder than the original DS. I still have my weeaboo stylus (which is roughly around the same size, extended) if it comes to that. Though, I heard the touchscreen is coated with layers and layers of foreskin so touching is hard. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I should have.
![]() ![]() Man, I probably should have kept the Brain Training demo, too. Then I'd have TWO OF THEM! The guy at the store didn't even open the box to make sure I'd put everything in there. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
So... I just got mine today... and 4 hours into play, I realize my touch screen has two problems.
1.) It's slightly crooked. I notice this because when I turn it on, the white startup screen has more black border on the left side than the right, and the whiteness of the screen doesn't "line up" with the exterior/glass border like the top screen does. 2.) The bottom right corner of the touch screen "clicks" if I press it even slightly, and the screen cover presses down slightly as I press it. The other corners stay well in place. Is this normal? I unfortunately didn't get a warranty on the thing, but do you guys think I have a chance of getting it exchanged anyways? I got it from my local EB Games shop. How ya doing, buddy? |
Good Chocobo |
Yeah, sounds reasonable. They should exchange it without question, it's clearly a defect.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I wonder... say I buy this ds lite at EBGames, and exchange my old one, will they let me open it there to exchange wifi settings? or am I screwed if I want to return it.. OR! can I return it later and get my 80 or so $ back?
How's it work? I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
Picked up my lite on Sunday, 6/11. Luckily, I don't have any dead pixels on mine (or at least I don't think I do). But, now that icarus mentions the corner problem, I realize that mine also clicks when I press it down. I don't find it causing any problems though.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
My Lite is dead-pixel free (and I spent all day inspecting it), but I do have one question just to confirm; is the volume button a bit loose and springy for anyone else? If it's just me, it's no big deal. It's not even a fraction as annoying as a dead pixel.
Also, does the sound quality seem a bit better for anyone who originally owned a DS? Again, probably just me, but I kind of noticed it when I started up Mario Kart (vroom, vroom, yeah-hoo!). What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
