European Anti Piracy Team in GFF... for god's sake?

Take a look at this letter. Either this is a ridiculous joke or some real thing, that's why I post this in place of laughs and games.

Dear Sir,

Rest assured that you will hear from us again, whether you like it or
not!
As a matter of fact, this is only the beginning of it.

We do not have to prove anything to you. Lest you should have forgotten
it,
you are the guilty party who has to provide an adequate case for his
defence. But, for your information, we operate as an undercover team
on
sites such as Gamingforce, Ebay, Emule etc in order to monitor the
level of
copyright violation.

You clearly need to consult a dictionary as soon as possible. Claiming
that
all the Cziffra recordings which you posted on Gamingforce.com are
"unreleased" is nothing short of idiotic.

Please have another look at your thread, focusing in particular on
messages
# 6, 13, 17, 19, 34, 53, 64, 81, 110, 117, 120, 122, 123, 124, 132,
136,
142, 146, 164.

All those recordings without fail are available commercially and under
copyright.

We remind you once again that you have until Monday morning to close
the
Cziffra thread on Gamingforce.com. We would strongly urge you to pass
on
this email to the administrators of the site and so-called moderators
of the
"Concert Hall" as they too will be held accountable for the ongoing
infringement of copyright.

We are currently preparing a file with all your details and a
comprehensive
list of the recordings on Gamingforce which constitute obvious examples
of
copyright violation. If the Cziffra thread is still open on Monday
morning,
we will send an email to all the major recordings companies whose
recordings
were posted (EMI, Hungaroton, etc) in order to bring the case to their
notice.

We fully realise that copyright violation is rife in other threads on
Gamingforce.com and we will also contact all the other major labels so
that
they too can bring their weight to bear and demand that such illegal
activities stop immediately. The lawyers acting on those companies'
behalf
are notoriously efficient and it remains to be seen just how quickly
Gamingforce gets shut down once and for all.

Yours faithfully,

Brad P Addison

this is crazy, its NOT SPAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what should we do?????

can we specially pssword lock this forum, and the password gets sent to all mebers by pms?

we need to act, FAST!

The Mr. Methane CD, purchased over ebay for .01¢. Yeah, free shipping. This guy performs all sorts of neat stuff, including the doot doot, doot doot from the Blue Danube.

Allow me to share a track from this CD. Here ya go.
I think he should have paid you .01¢ instead.

Wow, GFF together with Ebay and Emule. Maybe they should start monitoring their brains.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Uhhh the Concert Hall should be the least of piracy worries, seeing that almost all material shared there are oh... classical music. =\ Then the occasional sheet music, but they should focus more on pianofiles.com or something. Think about My Stuff... isn't that more "piracy"? I think this is a joke. Doesn't even sound legit.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Well, that e-mail was dated June 3rd of this year, so I think Bobo would have heard at least something by now if this was at all serious. But you never know, maybe they notified the labels and they are just taking their time.

Isn't most (if not all) classical music of European origin? Perhaps that's why a "European anti-piracy team" is trying to scare the people in the Concert Hall and not in areas where a lot of VGM or anime is shared, I dunno. But yeah...

Classical music is free domain, unless you're talking more recent composers. But Beethoven, Chopin, etc. are legit to be shared.

And to claim all classical music is European, you are wrong. =\

I'm not a classical buff, so that was mostly a guess. My bad.

My e-mail's hidden so I got a PM.

We demanded that his Cziffra thread be deleted as a matter of urgency, failing which we would contact all the major labels (EMI, Hungaroton et al) whose recordings were uploaded to file-hosting sites but we regretfully note that no action has been taken yet.

Although we only received confidential information about the Cziffra thread, we have now established that there are many other sections in which blatant copyright violation is rife, notably the one entitled "classical recordings". Lest this should have escaped your notice, the thread in question contains hundreds of active downloading links to commercial releases which are protected by law.

We understand that you are the moderator of that section of the website and we would therefore very strongly advise you to remove all those links in the thread devoted to G. Cziffra as well as the main one devoted to classical recordings by noon tomorrow (5 June 2006, GMT). We are currently compiling a list of all the instrumental, chamber, vocal and orchestral recordings which have been uploaded on the site with a view to alerting the major companies which have a vested interest in stopping the ongoing infringement of copyright occurring on Gamingforce.com.

As you probably know, many file-sharing sites got into very serious trouble a few months ago. Failure to comply with our request will almost certainly result in legal action against the administrators/moderators of Gamingforce.com (and some of the members whose identity will be easily established) and the shutting down of the entire site.

Yours faithfully,

Brad P Addison

I once got genuine threats from a (real) sheet music publisher, and told them to fuck off since I was neither the person who uploaded the stuff they had a problem with, nor the one responsible for the hosting (ie. the owner).

You wouldn't believe how much of a challenge it was to keep a straight face while advising them to send bobo a PM about it...

Speaking of bobo, he says he gets threats all the time and doesn't give them much thought.

Who is he probably in reality? a cop?

you also must have noticed, Tommy Tollarico, the president of Video Game Live and the composer of Advent Rising has been member of GFF already. He doesnt mention things about copyright stuff though.

Considering that the files aren't hosted on any server owned by Bobo, he's probably pretty confident that they can't pin anything on him. He's also not the one sharing the files. Just by being the owner of the forum, he's not really doing that much to promote this activity. Bobo is probably a lot safer than any individual user who uploads.
