The game was great just on its own, but then when you get into speed running, it's even more crazy fun (like lots of games but SM is one of the only ones I'm good at :x). One of the only non-RPG games that I ever truly invested hours and hours in figuring out all the odds and ends. My SNES is still hooked up just so I can speed run that game. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Super Mario Bros. 2. Yes, I know 3 is better and all that, but 2 holds a special place in my heart. It just feels better than 3. Original music vs. remixed tunes. New graphics, 4 characters with truly unique control characteristics. I love the graphical design overall, and the enemy design is splendid...
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Snatcher. Wonderful story, great characters, awesome soundtrack. Kojima needs to remake this.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Street Fighter II wins for me. I love fighters. Old school fighters rock.

Mario 3 and California Games both for the good ol' NES

NES: SM, SM3
SNES: DKC2, Super Metroid, Mario Kart. I remember spending far too many hours on all those games as a kid. Genesis: Sonic 2, 3 and S&K. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() ![]() |
Mystical Ninja for the SNES. I know it's not such a popular game but it always made me laugh. Double team by piggyback and your only weapons are a pipe and a yoyo.

Since I'm a hybrid gamer (meaning I've played about the same amount of PC and console games, I found it too hard to decide on the best gameplay for all platforms. So I separated it.
For PCs: The Ultimate DOOM: While the original DOOM from 1993 is great (after the patches of course, DOOM v1.1 refuses to run on a newer PC, even in DOS), the 1995 patch of DOOM makes the game even better. The level design is the greatest of what I've experienced in DOOM (I haven't had the balls/skill to get past DOOM 2 in Ultra-Violence, I ran out of ammo :doh and Ultra Violence E4M6 easily provides the best pre Half-Life level design (wanna try it? Bump my links thread, which is in my sig BTW, and I'll post the game for you). For Consoles: Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles: Yes Yoshi's Island is good and all (great actually), but I've logged morte hours into this game than any other pre-PS1 game. Considering I've played Chrono Trigger three times and the fact that S3&K can be theoretically beaten in 2-4 hours, this is significant. I've not only beaten the game with all four character types and emeralds (Sonic, Sonic & Tails, Tails, and Knuckles with 14 Emeralds each), but got a perfect score on each special stage and got over 99 lives, which causes a neat graphical corrpution where the lives counter is. This game is Sonic at his best. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
My favorite was Sonic 2. I can't count how many times I've finished the game, the fun I had while playing it.
I was also a fan of Ninja Gaiden series but at that time I wasn't that much skilled to play the game well. Most amazing jew boots |
If it's a classic game from the NES and SNES consoles, I would have to say Battletoads & Double Dragon for the NES, and Super Mario Kart for the SNES.
Battletoads & Double Dragon I think was one which came near the end of the NES market life, there is a SNES version of it, but I haven't played it yet (I'm sure it's similar). Even though I have only played one Battletoads game, BT & DD took some of the best bits from the two series, the transition from 2D to 3D fighting to combine with platforming elements was neat, not forgetting that cool space ship level. Both BT & DD and Super Mario Kart were games me and my brother spent many hours playing when we were younger. How ya doing, buddy? |
