Unrelated to anything, the scans are neat. The magazine layout, I mean. Clean, slick, uncluttered.

Famitsu always pulls in a billion different directions.

Now, I don't know much about culture or biology or anything, but does every Jap have ADHD or something? Cuz damn.

Regarding the heroine's name, Lightening would be rediculous. At least Cloud and Squall were cool names...Lightning has no ring to it and sounds very unoriginal. I know, Cloud wasn't exactly original either but still was the coolest FF name, IMO. Squall was pretty cool since no one ever uses that word, so why not use it as a name? But anyway, Lightning as a code name (like people have speculated) would be ok...like "The White Lightning" or some other kind of title relating to lightning. If they do end up calling her Lightning, I hope when it's localised in English SE USA will realize that Lightning as a person's name is so so so soooo stupid (may sound cool in Japanese but not in English). That's my two cents...

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Square Enix Conference Report
05.24.06 - 1:38 PM

At its annual financial results conference, Square Enix management announced its results for the fiscal year 2005/06 which ended on March 31st. The company has posted a consolidated net profit of 17.08 billion yen ($153.33 million USD) on sales of 124.47 billion yen ($1.12 billion USD).
Thanks to the success of Kingdom Hearts II and Final Fantasy XII, Square Enix has sold 7.86 million units in Japan. This figure translates to an increase of 1.56 million units, compared to the results of the previous fiscal year. As of March 31st, Final Fantasy XII has sold 2.38 million units in Japan, while shipments of Kingdom Hearts II had reached 1.15 million copies in Japan and 1.26 million in North America. Nonetheless shipments in North America, Europe and Asia decreased, resulting in total worldwide shipments of 12.23 million copies.
For the current fiscal year, Square Enix projects sales of only five million copies in Japan due to the transition to the next generation of hardware. Thanks to the worldwide release of Kingdom Hearts II and Final Fantasy XII, management expects worldwide sales of 13 million copies. In addition to new games, the company also wants to strengthen its sales of budget series re-releases. Regardless of the platform, the package design will be consolidated.

As far as the online game business is concerned, Square Enix president Youichi Wada acknowledged Square Enix's problems with coming up with a second major MMORPG hit after Final Fantasy XI. Accordingly, the next major MMORPG won't arrive during the current fiscal year (that is until March 31st, 2007).

Cellphone content apparently did not generate as much profit as expected. However, Wada expressed hope that Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest will change this situation for the better.

As previously reported, Fabula Nova Crystallis is indeed planned as the company's second major polymorphic content franchise after the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. In addition to the PlayStation 3-based Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII, as well as Final Fantasy Agito XIII for cellphones, more installments of the Fabula Nova Crystallis project could be forthcoming. Wada likened it to Star Wars or Gundam, and said that it would span a decade. While Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for PlayStation Portable was generally believed the be the final installment of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, Wada thinks the Final Fantasy VII franchise will be alive for two decades, meaning ten more years.

Despite all the talk about polymorphic content and established franchises, Wada also mentioned that Square Enix also aims to strengthen its position as far as original games are concerned.

The new scans Hantei posted definitely look Taiwanese. Not a lick of simplified Chinese in there.

The heroine looks kind of unoriginal to me, although pretty (not unlike many other game characters). Once more we get to play a woman as a lead, unlike the past 5 FFs.

How daring of square enix to anticipate so high a sales quantity for FFXII when it just screwed up it's on marketing by overshadowing it with releases of FFXIII.

After setting the logo as my wallpaper, I looked closely at it and it shows a woman (I'm guessing the heroine) morphing into what seems to be a horse...I immediately thought that, since people have speculated her elemental attribute is lightning (as well as Lightning possibly being her name, but oh dear god I hope not ) she was morphing into Ixion (the summon in FFX, also made a cameo in FFX-2, whose elemental attribute is lightning/thunder). Just a hunch...whattaya think? Also if my theory is correct, and if there are other party members, they would have elemental attributes that correlate to specific summon creatures.

If she does have party members, they all might morph to other summons. Ifrit, Shiva, Bahamut..etc. I think that would be interesting but very very wierd at the same time. O.o''

I always thought it was two people in the logo, with one of them morphing into the dragon/esper/creature in the bottom. But upon further inspection, it does look like the same woman crouching, and then turning into the creature.

Summon transformations....sure, why not.

Hmm, excellent point, really, good sense of observation, it would be interesting to see that, could that be the new FF direction SE was talking about? It would also explains why she can kick the ass of I don't know how many armed soldier in a matter of second without being hurt

I almost agree, but for this one, I'd have to say:
X-X 2: Modern Fantasy (Think back to Pop Star Yuna. The style of this game reflected alot of modern day things.) And there weren't that much beach activity. So, technically it should be Summer Fantasy.

I almost agree with FFVIII. But however, there was also some sci-fi features as well. Remember the metropolis futuristic city; Esthar? That had some scifi parts.

Personally. FFVIII is more like this;
- Future Fantasy/Man against evil witch (the whole story revolved around witches and their rise to power).

New infos:

Tetsu Tsukamoto (alternate costume designer, FFX-2) is taking care of weapons design.

The scenario is 80% complete.

Vehicles will be in the game and the team is considering to use the motion detection functions of the PS3 pad.

The two yellow strips on the girl's left shoulder express a rank and a social status.

There will be usual exploration of cities and conversations with non playing characters.

The woman in the trailer is probably not the main character however the developers want to give a prominent role in the game to a strong, independent woman. (NOOOO~! This BETTER not mean another Gackt'd "male" lead, Square!)

Jam it back in, in the dark.

It's interesting that she might not be the main focus. I'm a bit disappointed by that, but at least she does appear to be a strong female character, and someone who seems to differ from Yuna in terms of strength.
