I've zero interest in three of those titles, but am sadly missing a lot of those on the list.
Though it's missing Vagrant Story which is an automatic failure.

Seems to me like another pretentious "this will make us seem hardcore" list that so many American game mags like to make.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I am shocked and apalled that Star Ocean: The Second Story and Super Mario RPG aren't on that list.

Sure it is, considering most B&M stores no longer have copies of PS1 games. Any sap can get on eBay and get any of these games if they wanted to really. It's a hell of a lot better than Disgaea, too.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I remember some of the characters were much less loyal than others. A couple of rogues/thieves in that game were especially bad. There was Rock, who got pissed off no matter what you gave him. Big crybaby IMHO. Then there was Bastion who would desert you automatically if the enemy had any female generals in a battle. I guess they're true to character, but boy were they annoying. I always stuck those two far away from the battle lines whenever I got them.

With regards to the list, I'm surprised Suikoden 2 and VP aren't higher up on it. Though I understand how Earthbound is, even though I've never played it (never really caught my interest), I know it has a strong following amongst those who have. I'm also a bit surprised that they didn't mention Mysteria: The Realms of Lore for the Saturn. That game has to be pretty rare considering there was a legal dispute over the name, and it had to be changed to Blazing Heroes later on. Then again, maybe that's why it isn't on the list!

I really wish I could've found Panzer Dragoon Saga at retail stores before they stopped carrying Saturn games, since I kept my Saturn for the good RPGs that came out on it, and I've only heard good things about that one.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I wouldn't be surpised, they screwed up and said Lunar was originally for the Saturn when it was originally for the Sega CD

I don't think you can really call anything that made it to greatest hits rare.

Yeah it was hard to get Bastion to fight just about anyone, but to his credit inspite of that he was the toughest rogue character in the game. I had him kill plenty of Dragon Men at the end of the game. I remember Rock was a crybaby too, but from what I remember if you got someone up to 100 troops they would quit whining and wouldn't desert after that.

True. Also there is one general I know of who you start with, and who will desert/defect. Scar from Tristan.

That's him...That's the fucker that deserted me. Dunno why I remembered him being named 'Raven', but I'm 100% sure that was him. He just up and left after I spent a good bit of resources on him. Wasn't gamebreaking (my army was still pretty good), but it kind of dampened my outlook on the game, since it seemed to be random.

What, do you think they're gloating that they have played games we haven't? I mustn't be cynical enough to see this as much more than a shoutout.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Good list, though Dragon Force, Suikoden II, and Disgaea are all overhyped. The only ones I don't own are Shadow Hearts and Panzer Dragoon Saga. The latter is something I've wanted to try for a long time. I just don't want to pay over 100 bucks for it.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Suikoden II and Dragon Force are overhyped? Are you stoned? Two of the greatest games ever.

I was reading through my new issue of Game Informer and I found a little tribute list to lesser known rpgs(At least lesser known then Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior). The list is as follows

10. Shadow Hearts (Playstation 2)
9. Ys BOOK I&II (Turbo Grafix)
8. Tactics Ogre (Playstation)
7. Valkyrie Profile (Playstation)
6. Suikoden II (Playstation)
5. Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete (Playstation)
4. Dragon Force (Sega Saturn)
3. Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (Playstation 2)
2. Earthbound (SNES)
1. Panzer Dragoon Saga (Sega Saturn)

I have Valkyrie Profile, Dragon Force, and Disgaea myself. I can easily agree that those belong on there and I doubt anyone will argue that Valkyrie Profile doesn't belong on the list.

So... RPG Forum what are your thoughts on this list?
10. Looking for it. I have Shadow Hearts 2 and 3, just need 1 to complete my collection. The funny thing is the battle theme from 1 is my most favorite of all time.. and I never even played the game. :ashamed:
9. Never played any Ys game.
8. Heh, I remember reading about that game back in the day when I was playing Final Fantasy Tactics. I used to have the GBA version but never played the PSX copy.
7. Got it. One of the best games ever made, just wish I would have played it sooner.
6. Got it. Suikoden II was the first RPG that lasted longer than I did. Which is a good thing since modern day RPGs are so short.
5. Got it. Not ashamed to say that was one of the hardest RPGs I ever played. Galeon was fracking impossible.
4. Unfamilier. But I used to have a Sega Saturn. >.>
3. Got it. In my opinion, Disgaea has the best gameplay of any RPG to date. The story, characters and music were so-so but the gameplay outshines everything else.
2. I played a few minutes of it (emulated) but never got into it.
1. I had the demo of it for my Saturn. lol

You should see the Playstation bin at the Gamestop around the block from my house. Roughly about 10% of they're used games is Final Fantasy IX. I honestly don't know why they have so many copies.
