PC won't read Network Adaptor on Startup

This is an old problem I had a bit back with my old PC. Since I've had to reinstall all my programs, I'm getting an error where my network adaptor won't connect to the internet after my PC boots up. I either get a red X over the icon, or I just get no connection. Replugging the adaptor makes it work, but I don't want to do this every time I start up my PC. Someone gave me a quick solution the last time I had this problem, but I forgot what I had to do. So please help me out.

It's a USB adaptor. It's external.

Bump, can someone help me here? I'm still getting the same problem. PC starts, network icon has a red X over it. I have to replug it for the PC to read it.

USB network connectors are really unreliable.

Likely the reason is that your computer's USB ports don't recognize anything plugged into them at Windows startup. You're gonna either have to get an internal NIC, or do this every time.

NICs aren't expensive. And they're more reliable. They're also faster if you're connecting computers together because they're not throttling down to USB speeds.

yea,try to use network USB on other PC if working will be your ports USB not recognize your network USB,if doesn't work will be damage.

RYU, you don't even gasp his problem so stop posting. IT ISN'T DAMAGED! Windows just doesn't read it at startup, so he needs to replug it everytime his CPU re/boots. (Happened with my keyboard too. Kinda annoying.)

USB troubles in Windows XP are a commonplace; so let's start with making sure the motherboard drivers are updated. I'm also assuming you have at least Service Pack 1 installed. Are you plugging the device into a rear port? What are the errors in Device Manager after you startup and before you re-plug your network card?

Here are two solutions you could try.

Open up regedit, and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Usb. (If the key does not exist, create it.) Create a new DWORD DisableSelectiveSuspend with a value of 1. This should stop Windows suspending USB devices.

Someone posted another solution on a different message board: try not only turning your computer off but also switch off at the mains. This will discharge any stray capacitance that could reside in your motherboard after you shut it down.
