When you imagine a composer?
When you picture a composer in your mind, what kind of person are they? I've always gave them the personality of a very very humble, honest and friendly personoa. They would compliment others works, speak truthfully but passionatly of there own pieces. They would love to joke about things too and be silly.
I dont know thats just my ideal... Jam it back in, in the dark. |
MY ideal is that composers are human yamarajas that know too much about everything and can destroy most people's petty delusions about the mainstream world of music with oral dissertations. Thats what I do anyway, and I have so many names that I go by it's difficult to keep track of everything I've composed. The masterers, who most people are mislead into thinking they're the real composers, prove that my VGM is music of the highest calibur after they turn every song into sheet music and master it. I've even gotten to master some of Sakimoto's works on Radiant Silvergun and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, just so I could learn how to turn my gemini-techno style into classical before I composed Xenosaga Ep. 2.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I imagine a composer as a music making machine.
![]() This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
It depends on the composer, and whether I've seen a picture of them or not. Here are some examples of my imaginings:
Nobuo Uematsu - I've seen him in the flesh at the Chicago Dear Friends concert. Snowman's description--"humble, honest and friendly...loves to joke about things too and be silly" seems to fit life a glove. Yasunori Mitsuda - I've seen a picture of him; he looks like an Asian James Horner. As such, I picture him as a reclusive workaholic, taking on heavy workloads and shunning the media spotlight. Hitoshi Sakimoto - I picture him sloppily dressed in jeans in a studio filled with shrunken heads, somewhat insecure at the fact that he doesn't get any respect from classically trained composers. Yoko Shimomura - I've seen a picture of her; she looks like a band teacher. I see her as the type infectiously enthusiastic about music and all the latest toys. Masashi Hamauzu - Sort of like Tom Hulce in "Amadeus," wearing a tux and deadly serious about music, but immature and prankish when it comes to everything else. Koichi Sugiyama - A very distinguished-looking elderly man in a pressed tuxedo and waistcoat, prone to fall asleep watching TV and to rail against young kids and their "devil music." Noriyuki Iwadare - A wild man with Big Hair who parties hard and attends weekend garage jam sessions. Attired in a white disco suit. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
My imagined composer kinda looks like this:

Akira Yamaoka - A lazy guy who lives alone and has a high concept of himself. (I like the guy, but man, is he arrogant). What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
I think a composer for me would be someone who truly loves music and is passionate about his/her work. They find that there profession is fun and becomes more of a hobby than a job. I feel that someone who is easy-going, cooperative, humble, and honest would possess ideal aspects of a true composer. A composer who is versatile with his or her music and draws inspiration from all things big and small!! These would be great characteristics of for a composer!!! FELIPE NO
