Geno made a camea in a recent Mario RPG. I can't remember which one though. If there were to be a Square-Enix character he'd be top choice because of relations and history of the character.

I don't think so, first of all what move would you use since the entire controller already does something. And Zero suit Samus was presented as a newcomer.

Well, they're not the same person so I think the idea would be pretty pointless for just a few characters, but this made me think: why not have a special move that switches you with another character, regardless of who they are? That way you could use your favorite 2 characters, and switch them up every once and a while to change your fighting style or just to break the monotony of playing a huge quest as one character. There is no select button on the GCN/Wii controller, why not add one, and when pressing it, you could switch them out. You could use Zelda/Sheik's extra B + \/ attack for Din's Fire or something.

No no no and no. This is almost as dumb as Banjo, Cloud, Spyro, etc. The Prince has never been in a game on a Nintendo console, and I don't think Nintendo would be willing to add him even if he was. He's one centimeter tall, his limbs are short and skinny, and he as no weapons or moves outside of rollling around a giant ball of shit. This doesn't translate well into a fighting game against armed and (mostly) humanoid opponents with a large arsenal of special attacks.

Dead or alive anyone? Team combo attacks would be Excellent.

Maybe they'll have an arena, or a serise of arenas entitled "A Tribute to Video Games" or something, wherein they have tons of references, and cameos from all kinds of video game characters e.g. the prince rolling his huge ball of stuff across the background, or a video clip of Crono and (add two CT characters here) fighting Lavos etc... Maybe keep it to characters appearing on a nintendo console, but whatevs, it all works.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

The Prince and his world don't clash with the definition of traditional videogame character nor with Nintendo's overall theme. Katamari Damacy isn't a Sony exclusive either and I do hope Namco decides to bring it over to Wii at some point. I believe the stage I described above shows how well Katamari would fit in. There is a lot of love now for Nintendo and I seriously believe Namco, Capcom, Sega, Hudson, and Square-Enix would want a character or two in SSBB. It's not going to be massive. I'd say two/three characters at max from each but it would be quite enough.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

The stage sounds good to me, I just don't think the prince would work as a fighter since he really doesn't do much. Think of Marth, he's basically just a dude with a sword, and most people don't like him because of that. He has no special moves in his game other than swing your sword, so Nintendo had to make up a whole bunch of variatiuons of swinging a sword to give him a full moveset. The prince doesn't fight at all, they would have to turn rolling a ball around into an entire set of attacks, and rolling things into a ball is totally different than just whacking or shooting each other (which all the other fighters do), and I just don't see how the two could mix very well. But, if they did include the prince as a fighter, I have faith that they'd somehow manage to meld lump rolling with beating each other up.

I don't have anything against Katamari getting a Nintendo release (I'm sure it would be greatly welcome on the DS) but at this point (with 0 games) I sincerely doubt that it would find its way onto SSBB. If any Namco character made its way into the game, I think it'd be Pac-Man or Klonoa.

This would be good, but I'd like something better than "you hold them down and I'll hit them".

Yeah, that's why I only suggested Katamari Damacy as a stage. I can't see The Prince as a great fighter either. I know every stage in SSBM that was from a franchise had that franchise's character in the game but they could make an exception. I mean think about it. The Fire Emblem characters didn't have their own stage and every other character did have their own stage so it's not like there haven't been slight exceptions before.

I'd say PacMan, although I'm confused as to what his moves besides waka waka could be, and Klonoa are the characters we'd see from Namco.

Pac man could use his moves from the Pacman World series. He could also throw pellets or punch people I guess. He'd probably only be there to give Namco a spot on the roster. Klonoa would work, with his magical bracelet of grabbing stuff.

Also, I've seen a few rumors around the internet that in SSBM Nintendo wanted to include Sonic the Hedgehog but Sega denied it. Is this true?

On an unrelated note, I was playing SSB today and I noticed Mario's alternate colors were switched blue and red, Wario's colors, and Waluigi's colors. Didn't that game come out before Waluig's debut? (one of the Mario Party games? I'm not sure)

That's the funny thing about fighting as most of it involves swinging things around. Y'know, in Mario's first game he didn't have any attacks besides jumping.

About Zero Suit Samus, I really don't think she's going to be similar to Zelda/Sheik. It's true that she loses her suit in the trailer, but I think that was just intended as a dramatic entrance. Alternatively, it might be that her armor breaks if she takes a certain amount of damage, but somehow I doubt it.

One thing I am kind of curious about is stage layout. It's probably safe to assume that the game mechanics will stay close to the way they've been, but some of the screenshots make it seem like the stages won't just be two-dimensional fields. If this is the case then I wonder if the playing fields will be fully three-dimensional or if they'll just be separated into multiple fields like a foreground and background.

Yeah, he was in Superstar Saga, popped up during a few of the minigames (well at least one).

It would be interesting to see if they introduce a multiple plane system, similar to the PS2 Naruto Narultimate Hero games, where you could jump into the background or foreground (most stages usually had two or three planes) and continue fighting there. Doing this would be slightly tricky though as all the Naruto characters had some kind of throwing weapon (kunai, shuriken, needles etc) they could try to hit the opponent with, even when on different planes, while not that many Smash Bros characters have a projectile attack, not least a fast one that would be useful.
Still, it'll be interesting to see how much they'll try to alter the structure. It's quite possible they'll just keep the stage layout the same, and focus on coming up with as many variations and clever ideas for the stages as they can.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I'm saying this much, if Snake's Adventure Mode Story does not involve Metaknight being the last boss and then him turning out to be Raiden, once again trying to steal the spotlight from Snake (See E3 2005 MGS4 Trailer) making for a herlious battle during the credits, complete with 2k5 MGS4 Trailer music, I will officaly loffle the burger.

???

Can you show me a screenshot, or point me to a point in time in the trailer where the stage doesn't look like it could be played on a single plane?

I'm 98% positive that the playing fields will be single plane only just like they've always been.

Wow.....that was a lot to read....but nevertheless, While I like seeing these new characters in the game, I'd still have to think about their movesets....Snake's Recovery/Triple Jump move (Up + B) immediately comes to mind, and I can't imagine any of his "B" moves....Ah, but no worries, I'm confident that Nintendo will surprise me as they've done in multiple occasions in the span of 30 minutes when I read this thread.

On another note, having a playable character from any Final Fantasy is not going to be likely at all. The only likely character from any Square-Enix game is probably going to be a Moogle or a Chocobo, probably the two longest lasting trademark "characters" or figures from Square.

Alas, Megaman would be a nice addition, his moveset would be pretty easy to fill up as seen in his debuts in Marvel vs. Capcom and such. Likelyhood, I dunno though.

Actually, It is possible to play in two planes, but infinitely more complicated. Addind a depth dimension would be a lot more interesting....But immediate evidence suggests the original formula.... but the camera is likely to rotate all around for a super move though.....

That's true, but characters like Jigglypuff and Yoshi have alternative methods. Yoshi has a monster Double Jump to get back, Jigglypuff jumps 5x like Kirby but to a lesser extent. I guess they could give Snake a Jetpack or something.....
