The DS Browser

I guess it's about time they updated the DS so that there's an Internet Browser (I thought it said Bowser at first...)

At least it's catching up to the PSP... by a bit

Can't help but notice the general consensus on 'catching up to the PSP' in terms of browsing. I've got a PSP with 2.5 firmware and I have to say the browser completely stinks.. If opera runs pages without running out of memory and can actually load up pages without taking ages, then we've got a winner. Not that I regularly surf on a handheld anyways..

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

It's a nice novelty idea, but I don't think it's going to be taken too seriously.

I mean, we have PDA's and shit like that to cover ourselves when we're in an area(for example, work) where there's no readily available PC or laptop. But this is still a great idea, as long as it isn't going to cost too much to establish.

There's 2 different modes to deal with that prolem. In fit-to-width mode, Opera uses both screens for scrolling up or down a page with both screens completing the view. In DS mode, an overview of the Web page is displayed on the lower screen and a pink square can be moved around an area of the page. The area you have selected is shown enlarged on the upper screen.



A new feature for the DS Opera browser is the ability to hand write the URL into the address field. You can currently write in English or Japanese. Opera will also make use of the DS touch screen as a means for users to type via a keypad.

This isn't the first time they've left the realm of gaming. They did so with the Game Boy Camera, and that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure there is more instances.

Also, of course they are going to downplay that which they don't do if the other companies are doing it. What do you think Sony + Microsoft are doing when they call a prettier picture "Revolutionary"? The only company that has the possibility of claiming that what they are doing is a Revolution this generation will be Nintendo, of this I'm sure... (barring any new developments about some hidden PS3 secrets)

I like how Opera developed this browser, not Nintendo.

Interesting idea, but not a great one. I could see how this could be useful for simple things, like checking email or the weaher and what not, but I don't think this sort of thing is worth the money.
