Well, i think everyone is more focused on her bring a lesbian because its somewhat newsworthy than just a new Batwoman.
And her name is Kate Kane, so she's a new person, who is like Bruce in that she's high society so she has a different backstory than the other Bat-family characters. Jam it back in, in the dark.

I suppose you can check out Y:The Last Man, where every male on Earth dies except for one guy, leaving him in a world of women. I haven't read it though so i woudn't know whats in it exactly. There's nowhere I can't reach.
