Trying to fix DVD player in Laptop

Ok, here is the deal, I am fixing my cousin's laptop and I cannot seem to get the DVD player to work, It can read data on DVDs, but won't play movies.

I have downloaded multiple players, but I get this error everytime I try to play a DVD movie:

Any Ideas?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Really...? No one has any ideas?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

What piece of software are you using to play the dvd movie? (Power DVD?)
This might be a little irrelavant. If you can, mind telling us what model number, brand, and/or age the dvd player is?
It did not work before the format, and it doesn't work now that I have reinstalled the video card.
Does anyone have a copy of Power DVD? I would like to give that a try,(plus I am gonna try the codec that Zergrinch suggested)

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
