Trying to fix DVD player in Laptop
1 Attachment(s)
Ok, here is the deal, I am fixing my cousin's laptop and I cannot seem to get the DVD player to work, It can read data on DVDs, but won't play movies.
I have downloaded multiple players, but I get this error everytime I try to play a DVD movie: Any Ideas? |
Really...? No one has any ideas?
|
Well I hear slim-types are more picky about reading certain formats. Though I'm not sure if that includes original dvd movies. Anyway, mind giving us more information to work with? Perhaps you can answer the following questions:
When did this start happening? What was the last movie you played on it that worked? What piece of software are you using to play the dvd movie? (Power DVD?) This might be a little irrelavant. If you can, mind telling us what model number, brand, and/or age the dvd player is? |
Try uninstalling every video codec, and install the CCCP: http://www.cccp-project.net/
|
You need an mpeg2 decoder which normally comes from DVD playback software(Power DVD or WinDVD for example) or with the original video card driver install CD.
There are legality licensing fee issues when dealing with MPEG2 DVD playback so you will not find such a codec freely distributed in such things as the CCCP pack. |

Does anyone have a copy of Power DVD? I would like to give that a try,(plus I am gonna try the codec that Zergrinch suggested) |
Have you tried installing any media software that came with your computer? Most computers that have a DVD drive comes with DVD software. Nine times out of ten its usually PowerDVD. Which is what I use.
In any case, I've got tons of extra copies laying around so I will PM you a zipped copy :). That should fix the problem. |
thanks a bunch! the Power DVD worked, however I had to install DirectX 9 before I could install it, but it still works! Thanks!
