I don't understand the crux of this argument.
Czechloslovakia certainly was a puppet of the USSR, but Croatia (as part of Yugoslavia) was not. They may all have been buddies in Communism, but Yugoslavia was not behind the iron curtain, and had more contacts with the West. It's completely silly to claim that the US soccer team has to watch out for Croatia because somehow it was part of the Soviet Union's communist machine. The US does have to watch out for Croatia because Soccer is a distant fourth in the US in drawing athletic talent, whereas in most countries, it's the top sport. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
