I think you are totally misunderstanding what SMX meant with what he said.
Those 'flings' or 'casual realtionships' are very important in learning about yourself and other people. I've been in many relationships and about 4 of them have been very passionate and longterm; although most of them have been short lived and a good learning experience. Not everyone is all about dating casually, I understand that; but what happens when you do finally hook up with who you think is your dream girl and she doesn't think your her dream guy? Simply because you may not have picked up the know-how.
